Found out about the recall on the norcold refrigerator by chance on a website catering to rv'rs, then checked norcold's website for details. noted they had also notified nhtsa about the recall. the problem is a potential leak/fire hazard while running the refrig on ac power. the recall specifies that the service center check for leaking cooling unit and if ok, then only replace the ac heating element. ours was replaced on 5 sep. however, on 22 sep the refrig started smelling and filling the interior of the motorhome with ammonia fumes, so it was shut off. the cooling unit had started leaking. now norcold treats the replacement of the cooling unit as a warranty issue, and not part of the original recall. talking to their customer service reps indicates they are experiencing more cooling unit failures, even after the ac heating element has been replaced. i think they should have replaced the heating element and suspect cooling unit together under the recall. it appears there may be numerous refrigerators on the road that have had the ac heating element replaced, but whose cooling units are still prone to leaking and pose a safety hazard. i have written norcold an email on this same issue.

TIRES
07/23/2000403/01/1999
There were 4 separate occasions of blowouts all in the rear tires. luckily the rear contains dual axle, so we able to maneuver safely off the road. each tire blowout was termed tread separation. the first two were covered by a tire road hazard contract, but upon the thrid and fourth blowout in a 3 month period, i was directed to go directly to firestone. they did replace the blown tires with the same new tire, but there is obviously a problem with the mfg. of the tire, and i have since replaced all of the tires with michelin, since my wife and children would not ride in the rv until i did so. i have attempted to contact firestone since the beginning of august, and have only received form letters, emails if any response at all. i have contacted ford, and they have indicated that firestone would have to address this. i am sending the body of a letter under separate email for more information. *ak (tiresize: lt225-75-1)( dot number: tire size: lt225-75-1 )

Consumer stated recreational vehicle experienced 2 tire blowouts on 2 separate occasions, on the right and left rear dual wheels, the blowouts were caused by the valve stem extenders wearing against the wheel rims, after 3 years of travel, the valve stems wore through because of the rubbing on the wheel rim, once worn through, air pressure escaped instantly and subsequently, the tire blewout, both blowouts happened within a 3 week period.(winnebago chieftain, model number wkl36l, type mpv)*jb
