Bmw na has issued their voluntary emissions recall campaign 10e-a02 there are three parts to the recall: ecu reprogram, hpfp (high pressure fuel pump) replacement, and injector replacement. which parts are performed is specific to vehicles vin. i had brought my car into the dealership last month and inquired about the recall. i was told according to my vin that my car with the original hpfp and injectors only needed to be reprogrammed. this was confirmed when i called bmwna and was told that their engineers determined my hpfp was not faulty. so i only had my ecu reprogrammed. i have not had any significantly long cranks. today i was driving with my daughters. as i pulled out onto a major road, the engine started to stumble and lost a significant amount of power. this had put me and my family's life in a very dangerous situation. as i hardly had enough power to pull up the small incline of my driveway. fortunately i had not pulled out in front of a speeding car or cut someone off and was not t-boned or rear ended. my car is now at the dealer getting a hpfp replacement and being run through a pre-program

Was driving on public roads in traffic and the engine simply stalled out. i tried to start the car again. difficult to start, but finally did. no power to engine and car simply bumped and sputtered along until the engine stalled again. i was still in traffic. turns out it was caused by fuel pump failure. fuel pump has been replaced.

I have now experienced four failures of the high pressure fuel pump on my 2008 bmw 335i coupe in the past year. three of these failures resulted in situations where power was lost while the vehicle was in heavy traffic that could have resulted in collisions from the rear. i all cases the car was behaving normally at speeds up to 70mph and then the engine would stop or go into limp mode allowing travel at less than 20mph. the fourth case resulted in the car not starting. in all four instances the bmw dealer stated the problem was the high pressure fuel pump. the pump has now been replaced twice and the engine software has been updated three times. the most rescent instance occurred in late august and required that the vehicle be towed. that is the occurance reported in the balance of the form. previous failures were in june of 2010, august of 2009 and july of 2009. this is clearly a problem that could result in a very serious accident if it were to occur in close charters at high speed.

I bought a new 2008 bmw 335i convertible. at approximately 13,000 miles, 12 months after purchase, the high pressure fuel pump failed engine malfunction-reduced power. the car began shaking when trying to start it. it took progressively longer to start the car. a brand new fuel pump was installed by bmw of dallas. 12 months later, the same problem recurred with similar symptoms. roseville bmw kept the car for 1 week and updated the software claiming bmw authorized the safe release of the vehicle per their standards. the service personel instructed me that there is really no fix for the car and numerous customers have come in for this issue, some with extremely unsafe presentations, such as the car suddenly losing power on the freeway while going 80 miles/hour in front of a big rig. he said that my problems are related to this safety compromise. i took the car home after roseville bmw deemed it safe. the next morning, i turned the car on and the car started shaking violently and the rpms would go to 3,000 back to 1,000 and back to 3,000 on its own. then it began shaking excessively and the engine malfuction reduced power light came one. i called into roseville bmw, and the same service advisor called it unsafe to drive and had it towed in (within 16 hours of releasing it to me in safe condition). they are attempting to replace the fuel pump again but admit that this is not a fix because there is really no fix for this problem.

Bmw 335i 6-sp manual began shaking roughly on start-up, rpms jumped up and down wildly between 500 and 2000 and check engine light came on. turned off car, restarted, idling settled down, car ran fine, check engine light did not come back on. same problem on next startup, but check engine light did not come on and i did not turn off car. after about one minute of idling, car began idling normally, drove fine. same problem on next start up--called dealer for service. started car, it seemed fine, so i drove away. on the way to the dealer, the check engine light came on and the car began shaking roughly while driving and had severly dimished acceleration power. downshifting did not help. could barely get up to highway speed, especially climging a hill. took it to the dealer. hpfp was replaced within 2 days. seems okay, but occasional lurching, perceived lag in acceleration at low speeds, and knowledge that this is a known problem with bmw x35s makes me question the car's reliability.

Multiple fuel system failures on vehicle starting at 27,055 miles, second at 28,711 miles, third at 40,872 miles. also excessive transmission leak at 35,784 miles.(repaired) several attempts of reprogramming software failed to fix the fuel system problem. still ongoing fuel system failure symptoms occurring after recent dealer service/inspection. the third breakdown was catastrophic and had to have vehicle towed off roadway.

My 2008 bmw 335i only had around 28,000 miles when i began noticing it took an inordinate amount of time to start the engine. it would crank for several seconds before the engine finally started, especially if it was a cold start. once the engine was warmed up it seemed to run just fine. it has now been in the shop 4 times since jan 2010 and i'm sick of it! am terrified about the car stopping on the interstate, amid traffic, like has been described in various other posts!

My car has already failed twice with the same problem, i.e., failure of high pressure fuel pump (hpfp). the problem occurred twice within a year from the time of purchase. it appeared that bmw have no fix to the issue yet. concerned that this problem is serious and lead to serious problems related to safety. two hpfp's were replaced by the bmw dealer and there is no guarantee that latest part will fix the issue permanently. *tr

Multiple high pressure fuel pump(hpfp) failures. while driving down a busy avenue the engine unexpectedly shuts down due to the hpfp failing. this was after the car had made 2 previous visits to the dealership to repair hpfp problems. currently i am now on my 3rd hpfp in 2months. unsafe car to drive, especially if this was to occur at high speeds on a highway. bmw has been having issues for this problem since model year 2007 up until 2010, with no product changes other than simple replacements. hpfp shows signs of problems when starting the car, due to long cranks, unstable rpm's and engine shuttering. *tr

My bmw 335i only had a few thousand miles when i began noticing it took an inordinate amount of time to start the engine. it would crank for several seconds before the engine finally started, especially if it was a cold start. once the engine was warmed up it seemed to run just fine. then after a few days the service engine light and exclamation point were light up on my dashboard. i took it to the dealer and they explained bmw was aware of the problem with the fuel pump and fuel injection system and they would take proper steps to ensure the problem was fixed. to my knowledge they changed the fuel pump and whatever other seals needed to be changed. car seemed to work just fine for about 6 weeks, now the problem has returned. the vehicle now has to crank for an inordinate amount of time again in order to get the car to start. i am concerned this will not be properly fixed again. the car is not yet at 10k miles and i am having to bring it in to be fixed for a second time. this is very disconcerting. **please note, the system would not allow the 335i as an option for the 2009 year, only when i chose the year as 2008, please note however that this is a 2009 bmw not a 2008** *tr

My car's high pressure fuel pump failed while i was driving on the highway in southern california. i was accelerating to pass another car, the car stuttered, and the check engine light went on. after this occurred, the car could barely accelerate. it was the weekend, so i had to continue driving to my destination, as there were no bmw dealerships open to repair the problem. the loss of acceleration made it very difficult, and potentially dangerous, when getting onto the freeway. also, had the car given out completely, it likely would have caused an accident. the problem was repaired the next work day (12/28/2009). according to the service invoice provided by the bmw dealership, the problem was a faulty high pressure fuel pump. the faulty hpfp was replaced. *tr

Own a 2008 bmw 335i. car service engine soon light went on while i was on highway. it went into safety mode, if i tried accelerating the car shuddered and shook violently. brought the car in to nearest bmw dealer, diagnosed as faulty high pressure fuel pump. pump replaced. less than 1,000 miles later, the car started again with the same behavior. dealer could not replicate. car has long cranks when starting cold. shudders and shakes. this car is a hazard. bmw has admitted the problem by extended the fuel pump warranty from 50,000 miles to 100,000 miles, but this is a safety issue. multiple online reports of repeated fuel pump failure. but, bmw will not replace unless a fault code is captured. this car must be recalled. *tr

The car went into limp mode in the middle of the highway and had to go 35mph the rest of the way on a 40mph minimum. the dealer said that it was a faulty high performance fuel pump and that it needed to be replaced. this is a very dangerous situation as i could have almost caused a crash while moving to the shoulder at 35mph on a fast highway. *tr

In july of 2009 the high pressure fuel pump went out on my 2008 335i. the dealer replaced the fuel pump and was aware of problems with this particular engine. on november 12th the fuel pump went out again and was replaced. bmw stated that they have extended the warranty for the hp fuel pump but could not give a reason to the defect. on november 30th three fuel injectors and 3 spark plugs were replaced. on all 3 occasions car lost power and or started to sputter. engine warning light came on all 3 times. i've lost all confidence in this vehicle and am currently starting a lemon law claim. *tr

My 2009 bmw 335i experienced a high pressure fuel pump failure while driving. this failure caused my vehicle to stall and become inoperable in traffic. the vehicle had to be pushed out of the intersection and required a tow to the dealership. the fuel pump was replaced by the dealer. hpfp failures are a common problem with the bmw n54 engine and have been a recurring problem since the engine was first introduced in 2006 and still plagues vehicles currently manufactured. some people have had their fuel pumps replaced 3 or more times. the failure mode of this component creates a safety hazard for the driver. while bmw has extended the warranty for this component they have not addressed the root cause and the safety issues still remain. note: the vehicle selector did not have the 335i as an available model for model year 2009. i selected 2008 so that the vehicle model would be correct. *tr

Dear bmw of north america, llc: we have been experiencing a problem with the fuel pump and fuel injectors on the above subject vehicle. we've taken the vehicle to united bmw of roswell, 11458 alpharetta hwy, roswell, ga 30076 -- phone# 678-832-4600. united bmw of north america, llc sent us a letter several months this year in 2008, informing us that they were aware of some issues pertaining to the fuel pump on the 335i's. alexander mathis has encountered these exact issues listed below in the correspondence from bmw of north america, llc. we've taken the initiative to take vehicle back to the united bmw of roswell on three different occasions pertaining to issues. to our amazement, bmw roswell communicated that the fuel in the vehicle had to much ethanol in the fuel tank. they said the bmw only allows 10% of ethanol in the gasoline and that some test were showing that there was 15% of ethanol in the fuel. nonetheless, we faxed over a copy of the gas receipt which certainly shows that we put 93 octane gas in both of our bmw's. we both use the same gas stations and the same 93 octane fuel. however, the 2006 330i sedan is not experiencing any problems at all, but the 335i is experiencing that very issues that bmw north america listed below in their correspondence. we never brought this issue to bmw north america, llc's attention. however, we still received a letter in mail pertaining to these exact issues. the letter precisely indicated the same issues that alexander mathis is currently experiencing with his vehicle. this is extremely frustrating to the customer that they would have to be caught up in an issue between united bmw roswell, bmw north america, llc and exxon gas station where the fuel was purchased. personally, i just couldn't imagine bmw allowing their valuable customers to go through such a cumbersome and tedious process to get their vehicle repaired. the vehicle is still under warranty with a little over 46,000 mile. *tr

 1) transmission jerks forward when letting foot off brake intermittently 2) car has long starts; i believe it to be a fuel management problem 3) car has reduced power intermittently problems occurs about every two days; the transmission jerking forward and reduce power is unsafe. it can't be forecasted during everyday driving. i have in contact with bmw na and my local service center for repairs. car has approximately 2000 miles; bmw claims no issues with the system. fuel/transmission issue makes the car hard to predict. bmw dealer recommended a different fueling station due to ethanol contact; since i started using their recommended gas stations, the problem has gooten worse. it should be noted the car has not technically failed yet. i've created an excel chart to track the issues, events and date/mileage/status of car conditions. i will keep in contact with the service manager of the dealer with the re-occuring issues. vehicle type 2008 bmw 335i coupe (model was not listed in drop-down bar later in complaint). *tr
