| Odi evaluated two different alleged defects involving rear drivetrain components during this preliminary evaluation.gm is conducting a recall to address one of the defect conditions and odi has opened an engineering analysis to continue its investigation of the other alleged defect. on december 19, 2007, gm submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning defective rear axle pinion seals in approximately 275,936 model year (my) 2005-07 cadillac cts, sts and srx vehicles as well as my 2006-07 pontiac solstice and my 2007 saturn sky vehicles (recall 07v-589).on sts and srx vehicles with all wheel drive, the front axle pinion seal also does not meet all of gm's specifications and may experience a fluid leak.gm indicated that the seal supplier made an unauthorized change to the pinion seal material.leaking pinion seals could result in loss of rear differential lubrication which could result in rear wheel lock-up and loss of vehicle control. on december 7, 2007, odi opened an engineering analysis (ea07-017) to investigate complaints of rear drivetrain component failure (e.g., fractured rear differential carrier housing or rear axle half shafts) while driving in approximately 7,600 my 2004 through 2006 cadillac cts-v vehicles.this condition may result in a loss of motive power and vehicle disablement and is not addressed by recall 07v-589.odi identified 35 complaints (16 to odi and 19 to gm) and 128 warranty claims potentially related to this condition (see ea07-017 opening resume).these complaints are not included in the failure report summary of this closing resume. the complaints and warranty figures given in this resume are limited to those that (a) are most likely caused by a leaking rear pinion seal; and (b) resulted in an allegation of a rear differential failure while driving.the data do not include all reports of seal leakage. | ||||||

| We bought the vehicle from a used dealer with factory warranty remaining. i noticed gear oil leaking from the rear differential axle. i took the vehicle into heritage @ 30,000 miles. they replaced a vent hose bulletin 07-04-20-0019. i picked the vehicle up and found the leak even worse the next morning. i immediately took the vehicle back on 1/22/08 and has been in the shop to date 2/18/09. when returned vehicle the dealer had to contact gm to find out what to do next. they replace the entire rear differential axle.i was called to pick up our truck only to discover now the engine check light will not go off. again they have to call gm to see what to do next. i'm told they will now be replacing the entire cam-shaft sensors and timing chains. *tr | |||

| Without any notice or lights or anything, my 2007 cadillac srx will loose power and decelerate from 60 to 0 in just a few seconds. i can have the gas pedal to the floor and the car does not move, even though the motor is still running. it is as if the car is in neutral. once you turn the car off and on again, it will run fine for a few days or a week or so before happening again. this has happened 4 or 5 times and the dealer says without being able to reproduce the problem there is nothing they can do. one time i was on a major highway and could not get out of the road. other vehicles were swerving around me at 60+ miles per hour. i could have been seriously injured any one of the times this has happened to my vehicle. this started at only 25,000 miles. i also have a grinding noise in the rear of the vehicle as well as when the front wheels are turned. this has been going on almost ever since i got the vehicle 14 months ago. it has been taken to the dealer time and time again and is still not fixed. i even called gm/cadillac and still got no satisfaction. i am afraid the wheels are going to fall off at anytime. i am also afraid i am going to be hurt when these problems happen on the highway, it is a company vehicle and i have to carry fellow employees with me on numerous occasions. i no longer carry anyone with me because of the potential danger. no one can tell me what is wrong or how to fix it and cadillac has been absolutely uncooperative with me. *tr | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2007 cadillac srx. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle decelerated without the brake pedal being depressed. the vehicle automatically began to jerk as if the contact had abruptly downshifted into another gear. he heard a loud grinding noise in the rear of the vehicle. there were no warning indicators prior to this failure. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and they stated that the rear axle pinion seal was leaking. the rear axle lost the entire consumption of oil and sustained major damage. the pinion seals were previously placed under recall, but they have since failed. the vehicle has not been repaired. the recall number was unknown. the failure mileage was 57,900. updated 07/29/08 *bf recall # 07v589000. updated 08/01/08 | |||

| I recently had a problem with my cadillac srx because the left wheel assembly failed and my tire literally fell off the axle while i was driving. i thought i would bring this potentially serious problem to your attention because it appears to be a combination of design flaw and/or dealership repair issue. either way this problem potentially may impact other people. i originally had my car serviced at tustin cadillac in california in june 2007 for a ?traction engaged? light problem. the traction light was always coming on when i accelerated my car from the stop position. this problem was fixed at this time and i had no problem until around july 19, 2007. on the same car side and tire the month earlier i experienced problems, there a serious problem because as i was told, a nut had come off the rear wheel axle assembly. i was originally told and assured by the service advisor that the two events of june and july were not related to each other. later the service manager expressed and told me the two were most likely associated. the service manager treated me very well and i appreciated his honesty and concern for my welfare. *jb | |||
