Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles equipped with all wheel drive and a 3.6l v6 engine, the torque monitoring functions of the electronic throttle control (etc) are not enabled. these functions can limit engine speed and torque if unusual engine control module (ecm) hardware or software failures occur.
Consequence SummaryWithout these functions enabled, a persistent ecm failure could result in a throttle opening greater than commanded by the driver and a crash could occur.
Corrective SummaryDealers will reprogram the ecm on these vehicles free of charge. the recall began on january 24, 2006. owners may contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339.

 Tl. the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. the contact stated while driving 70 mph the vehicle suddenly accelerates without warning increasing in speed up to 80 mph. the contact is able to slow the vehicle down by braking when this happens. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer informed the contact they've never heard of any vehicle accelerating. the dealer performed a diagnostic test and could not find a problem with the vehicle. after leaving the dealer the contact notice a recall via the interment regarding the vehicle speed control (06v007000). due to the vin number the vehicle feel outside of the recall. the contact stated the manufacturer should be responsible for the repairs since this is a known safety issue. the failure mileage was 65,000. jo

 Tl*the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. while the contact's spouse attempted to park the vehicle with her foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle surged through the fence. she continued to depress the brake pedal and the vehicle finally stopped. the front grill and hood were damaged. the vehicle was driven to the dealer immediately for inspection. the dealer found nothing wrong with the vehicle. there were no injuries. the speed was unknown. the current mileage was 3,362 and failure mileage was 3,342.
