Input housing shaft splines in torque converter was worn out after 44,000 miles, was replaced and was worn out again at 79,000 miles. after 35,000 mile, i believe this is a manufacturer defect or they are using a metal that should not be used for tension.

On or around march 21, i was driving my 05 colorado to work. when i almost arrived i noticed that my truck was driving very forceful and jumpy. when i got back into my truck, it was having trouble starting, but eventually did. that night i was driving home and when i got about 2 miles from my house a message came up on my dashboard that said power failure and it stalled out. the next day, it started ok enough for me to take it to a nearby chevy dealership. they told me that it was the solenoid valve and the camshaft position actuator was replaced. it drove fine until a few weeks later on april 11th when my truck would not start at all. i had to be towed to the same dealership, where they found that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. i was without my truck for 4 days. *nm

I have had the vehicle into the dealer 7 times because it suddenly and on its own shifts into 4h from 2h. once, this happened at 45 mph and the vehicle's sudden shifting into 4 wheel drive threw me onto a rocky shoulder. dealer repeatedly says he cannot do anything about it,because chevrolet doesn't know what to do about it. incidents are becoming more frequent. computers have been reprogrammed, which does not solve the problem. latest incident delineated below. *nm

About 1 yr. and 1 month after i bought a chevy colorado, the thing shut off on me. the first time it left me on the side of i-55 and did not want to start. it did though, but the engine light was on, it soon went off. the dealer reprogrammed the computer. it has shut off on me 4 more times. the dealer will not fix the truck b/c it is not storing codes. also, the traction control on the truck seems to engadge itself at the oddest of times when there is really no tire slippage and this has me sputtering and jumping while i'm trying to drive in traffic. at first start up, the truck has always made this rattling ping noise out of the muffler. every time i step out of the truck, i shocks me, i beleive due to the nylon in the fabric seats. the turn signal will only tick tock when it wants to. the hood on the truck will bow or bubble in and out while driving, usually on the inerstate when there is some little wind blowing outside. the alarm on the truck has gone crazy on me a few times. i can unlock the door, it will go off but the radio inside the truck will be playing. if i were to cranck the truck up, turn the engine off, get out, and lock the door, the alarm will be going off about five minutes later. this cycle will keep going on until i reset the computer by pushing the gas pedal three times. all the dealer and gm wants to offer me is an extended warrenty, which the warrenty i have now is doing me absolutely no justice, i refused it. they told me that they cannot work on the truck b/c they cannot duplicate the problems at which they drove it twice, and the computer is not storing codes. this problem seems to be compleately spurratic and unpredictable. i have invested alot of money into this truck and still owe on it. i refuse to be forced to pay for and drive a hazzard. *nm

While driving down the road at approximately 35mph i struck a piece of road debris ( approx 6 piece of a muffler). the debris must have hit the connection between the gear shifter and the transmission and the vehicle automatically down shifted to 2nd gear from drive. the piece that broke was a plastic conection device that connected the cables of the gear shifter to the levers of the transmission. what concerns me is two issues: the tow truck driver said stated that he sees this all the time on chevy's and had i been driving faster (highway speeds) and the vehicle did such a sudden down shift there could have been a serious acciident. my final comment/question, why would such an important component be placed in such a vulnerable position and why would is be made of plastic and not shielded in some manner.

Purchased new 2005 colorado lscrew4x4 in november 2005. i have noticed lately that when backing up or driving forward at an angle over a curb or on a slight grade heard a knocking/popping sound from the rear axle. if you take the side of the bed and force it side to side you can hear this knocking/popping soun severly. i called community cherovelt in burbank, and was told by service department this was normal sound. it does not make sense that this severe of a sound is normal. i called another dealer, and was told to bring it in to check it. i have yet to do this.*ak

2005 colorado pickup w/ sport suspension (zq8) erratic ride height in rear of vehicle causes rear axle misalignment. in the rear, one side of vehicle sits closer to the ground than the opposite side causing rear axle to protrude from wheel well on higher side of vehicle, this causes wheel alignment problems (a dog/crab walking condition) where rear axle steers/leads vehicle , i.e. left rear ride height is lower than right rear ride height and axle is shifted so as right rear wheel protrudes from wheel well of vehicle causing dog/crab walking condition-front wheels are not followed in line by rear wheels t. it appears a simple correction of the ride height by replacement of rear springs/shocks may correct the problem, adjusting rear of vehicle to level ride height is required for proper wheel alignment. dog walking condition is not caused by crooked bed alignment as per dealer/technician. dog walking condition causes property damage to wheel when turning into curve with rear leading side of vehicle near curb and can cause pedestrian injury if dog walking vehicle jumps curb due to the dog tracking condition during turning. *jb

2005 chevrolet colorado i4 engine 5 speed manual transmission. cannot engage reverse 70% of the time. i understand others have experienced the problem but chevrolet has a tsb (#611) saying condition is normal. i believe this is a safety issue if reverse cannot be engaged. problem has not been resolved. *tr

There are 2 major safety problems associated with my manual transmission. 1. when cold, it is pretty much impossible to downshift into 1st or 2nd gear unless i come to almost a complete stop. what this means is i cannot get into these gears to speed up quickly if i need to avoid an accident. chevrolet said this is normal! 2. it is difficult to shift into reverse some times. chevrolet even has a bulletin, but they said this is normal as well! what if i need to go in reverse real quick to avoid an accident or a train? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact smelled a strong burning odor and heard a loud rattling noise. the check engine light illuminated on the instrument control panel. the dealer stated that the bolts that hold the oil lubrication for the 4 wheel drive were too large, which caused the fluid to leak. as a result, the four wheel drive no longer works. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact has copies of all written correspondence, outlining the cause of the failure. she also notified her state attorney's general office and the manufacturer. the failure and current mileages were 57,000.

Tl*- while driving the 2005 chevrolet colorado at 40 mph the passenger, looking for the vent, must have accidentally pushed the 4 wheel drive button. the same day, while backing into driveway, the tires squeaked. the contact was unhappy with the design of the vehicle . he believes it is too easy to engage the 4 wheel drive function inadvertently. this vehicle has part time 4 wheel drive.*ak updated 2/22/2007 - *nm

2005 chevrolet colorado 4 wd shifts into 4wd low all by itself. *jb
05/22/20064200409/03/2005
During normal driving my truck will shift into 4wd-high. i cannot determine if it occurs at highway speeds or low speeds (<30 mph), i only notice it when i go to turn. the occurance is intermitten since i bought the truck new in september 2005. it has almost cause me to have a head-on collision with an oncoming car and a building because the turning radius is affected when it shifts into 4 wd. since the truck has push butten control to change to 4 wd, for several months i thought i bumped or pushed the button by accident, but that is not the case. i have been to the dealer 4 times, the 4wd control head has been changed (fault indicated), transfer case control module has been changed (internal fault indicated), all electical wire harnesses to the transfer case module-control head were checked for shorts. problem not identified or solved and gm service told dealer to quit trying different things since the problem could not be identified. the vehicial is still under new car warrantry. in another drive train issue that may or may not be related to the automatic shifting into 4wd is a complete rebuild of the automatic transmission at 4200 miles. the transmission had to be rebuilt because no new transmission was available in n. dakota. i have had no other problems with this truck. *nm

Dt: the consumer stated the vehicle has push buttons to change to 4-wheel drive. without warning the vehicle changed from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive without touching the controls. the dealer changed the computer and said they could not find the cause of the problem. caller said loaner vehicle did the same thing. manufacturer said they could not find the cause of the problem either. had vehicle 7 times at dealer for this problem.*ak the air condition was not cooling properly, therefore the dealer replaced the ac condenser. *jb
