The problem that i have with my truck is an electric problem involving the light relays, which i ad to replace several times due to them being damaged, leaving me without lights. my main concern is that i drive at night often and i am in danger when i have the lights on and off. i did research on several forums where same-vehicle-owners have experienced the same issues.

Bought used from a dealer. had for 2 days when had first prob that was fixed got back after a week. ran great. drove for 1 day and ran good, stopped at a stop sign and went to pull onto main highway and wouldn't move forward. backed up fine but no forward. i finally got it to crawl forward. after a lil while it kicked back in and ran fine til i stopped again. finally i made it home and parked it. after they finally came and towed it and fixed it i had it and drove it for 1 day and had same problem. after it sat for a while it did go again. pulled into driveway and parked it. still waiting for it to be towed and fixed again and hopefully right this time. i have researched this problem and found it happens a lot. sounds like it might be the fan clutch or sun shell spline. not sure yet though. called mechanic that dealer had fix it and they only changed a valve in tranny they thought was bad. said they have about 3 more of them to check before they replace whole tranny. i hope more people research these vehicles and don't buy them.

This is just the most recent of electrical problems i have had with the 2003 trailblazer lt. since the vehicle reached about 47000 miles i have had repetitive electrical problem: ac went out, radio went out, replace alternators three times batteries 4, refusal to start, some power vampire sucking out the power, and now i am driving along and the entire instrument cluster stops working. i get to the grocery store and shop then come out and it is working again. then the next day, none of the gauges are working from the time i started it. i called chevy at 1-800-222-1020 and was informed there is no recall, but i see this is a common problem according to on-line complaints. sean, at chevrolet said they can't do anything until it is seen by a dealer. i have evaluation appointment set for 3/4/2013.

After putting the drivers window down at a fast food drive thru it would not go back up. this was in january, very cold in michigan. dealer said moisture must have gotten into switch and the whole module had to be replaced. i asked if that means the doors can't be opened when it was raining, he said yes they can but for some reason gm has a lot of drivers door window switches going bad on the trailblazers. the cost to have it replaced was $430 which we paid seeing how only the dealer can program the new switch. it's now one year later and the same switch has gone bad again, i called the dealer but were over the 12,000 mile warranty. it will cost another $430 to replace again. *tr

Tachometer quit working first, then speedometer. this is an obvious safety concern. dealership previously indicated it will cost about $1,000 to fix. there are a lot of complaints but there is no bulletin or recall on this so gm refuses to do anything. a speedometer should no go out on a car, no matter how many miles and if it is not an isolated instance, there needs to be a recall. why is there a recall on other gm models but not the trailblazer? *tr

The gauge cluster on my 2003 chevy trailblazer stopped working over two years ago. from the readout upon my dashboard gauges, i have no idea at what speed i'm driving, how much fuel is in my tank, what is the electrical supply from my battery, or the engine's oil pressure. the tachometer does not register prm's. thankfully i use a tomtom gps to gauge my speed, and the odometer does function, so i know to stop for a fuel refill every 250-300 miles traveled. this will usually place me at between 1/4 tank and empty. ## vin failed ## 2003 chevy trailblazer ## *tr

I had gone to a friends house with my boyfriend and our 10month old daughter the car was working great on 12-31-11 at around 5pm we parked the vehicle. on our way home at about 10:45pm we got on the road car drove fine we jumped on the fwy it was foggy and really hard to see we were on the 54 fwy in san diego approaching the 805 south there is a high on ramp we were going about 55 to 60 and all of a sudden i pushed on gas and lost all power to vehicle it sounded like i was in neutral and because it was up hill and curved very difficult to see us with just hazard lights on. i was praying thinking someone was going to take us out. every car would swerving around us and honking we finally pulled over to the side of the fwy off of the ramp and turned off car turned it back on and it gave us enough power to get to the street exit. once there again did the same and at that point we parked and left car on the side of the road after calling a friend to pick us up since we didn't want our baby out on the street that late and on new years. i have also had several other problems ac only works on 5 back passenger panel makes clicking noise when on and back ac works when it wants to. also rpm gauge doesn't function, car alarm is very faint when place on. i have 3 other children and 1 car and now don't know what to do since we depend on the car. we have had small problems with this car and about 5 to 6 months ago my car engine started knocking and had to be replaced however ac already wasn't working and neither was the rpm gauge. when we replaced the engine the car ran great had a lot of power and everything. this was the worst experience of my life and i thought we were going to die.

I am the original owner of a 2003 chevy trailblazer. when i first purchased the vehicle in the month of october/2002, i didn't experience any problems until maybe the fourth year, going on its 5th; right before the warranty was about to expire. the first problem i encountered with the vehicle was the transmission. it didn't want to change gears properly. because of the 5 year warranty, the dealership was able to fix that problem, at that time. today, i continue to experience transmission problems: with a loud noise, a struggle in horse power and a vibration when i am at a complete stop. i have spent so much money on other electrical parts as well. i have purchased over ten light bulbs for rear brake lights that continue to malfunction. i recently replaced a relay because the head lights would constantly go out after the vehicle was turned on. i replaced the fan clutch and water pump because they both went out. i also replaced a battery and two starters. for the past few months, my vehicle smells like fuel everytime i turn it on. i am asking that your department look into all of these claims. it appears that almost everyone that owes a 2003 trailblazer has been experiencing the same issues, but yet; no one is doing enough to protect all those consumers who have been grateful to this country in purchasing american made vehicles. a sincere thanks.

I have bought many chevy vehicles but with all the problems im having with this truck im not sure i will purchase another. last year my transmission was giving me problems and there was a recall on it and my truck was not covered under the recall also same was with the tail lights. this year i am having problems with my wipers during rain storm i went to turn them on and nothing. i couldnt see so i had to pull over until the rain had let up(2hrs later). i am just speechless when it comes to these recalls. it seems that myself nor anyone i know ever falls on these lists, you would think with all the money we are paying to purchase these vehicles that someone would want to make sure they keeep our business.

The speedometer in my 2003 trailblazer rarely reads correctly. i am not able to tell how fast or slow i am going. this is the only gauge that is not functioning properly, the other gauges work fine. i feel this is a safely issue and should somehow be covered by a recall because so many people have issues stated across the internet with this same problem.

06/06/201189000
When starting the vehicle, it periodically will not start, lose all power, key gets stuck in the ignition without ability to return ignition to off position. there is a sound (like a high voltage sound coming from a transformer) and eventually resets itself, until 2 days ago. it would not reset itself, resulting in it being towed to a repair center. they indicated it was the alternator and battery and after changing both, the service engine soon light came back on and the high voltage sound has returned. there are times the rear wiper will turn on without my touching anything and times where the rpm gage will get stuck.
01/10/2011100000
Front headlights will not work, and are wires are burnt, air and heater will only blow on the floor setting even if put on a different setting, when you turn ac on the back windshield wiper comes on. when starting the car there is a loud clicking that sounds like it is coming from the dash. if stopped just for a few seconds while at a stop light or stop sign the temp will go from normal to 260! as long as you are going at least fast enough to push air through the grill it won't run hot, but if you are in town and traffic it will run hot and will not cool off enless you either stop and let it cool off or get to where you can go fast enough to push the air! the car will lock while it is running and in park. it will lock and the keyless remote will not open it. there have been times i have pushed brake in and the alarm system would go off. when stopping at a stop light or slowing down the car will try to die and at times had actually died for no reason. i believe there is a major electrical problem with the 2003 trailblazers and someone needs to do something about. this is not safe and should not be tolerated! i am worried that it is going to catch on fire with me or my children in it, and i should feel safe in a veichle! this car is a hazard to not only me and my family but anyone that is on the road beside us, because it is eventually going to catch on fire and i just pray that no one is hurt or killed due to this neglect by chevrolet!!

I own a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. my cluster started to malfunction in november 2010. i purchased the vehicle in july 2010. the odometer doesn't work at all, and the speedometer spins and spins around, which doesn't register the correct speeds. while searching the internet and this site, this is a common problem that happens with these vehicles that chevrolet is not fixing. this should be recalled so that chevrolet can properly fix this problem.

Safty issue!!!! i own a 2003 chevy trailblazer. my speedometer started acting up a couple of months ago and got worse this month. sometimes the needle starts at 50 or 70 mph insead of 0 and moves up from there. it will say that i am doing over 120 mph when i am only going about 45. other times it will stay on one number at not move at all. two weeks ago i turned on my car and the needle was pointing straight down to the odometer. i bought a new battery and that did not help. we unplugged the battery for 30 min and it rest everything. two days later i was having problems again. we researched the problem on line only to find out that a very large number of trailblazers were having this problem and that we needed to call gm. i did. the part has not been recalled even though the person i talked to knew exactlly what the problem was 5 min into our conversation. she told me i had to take my trailblazer tot he dealership to confirm. i called the dealership and the service guy i talked to also knew what the problem was in less than 5 min. i took the car in and continued to be in contact with chevy to seek financial assistance. i was transfered up to the next step where a very rude man denied my claim because of the millage on my car. i had to pay for the entire thing and they would not provide me with the parts that they took off my car. the service guy a the dealership said their was a core charge on my part so he had to send it into chevy so they could rebuild it. not knowing how fast i was going and knowing that my other gages were going to fail as well (since they are all conected to the cluster) is a major safety concern for me. it does not take mtch research on the internet to determine this is a major issue that chevy is not taking care of.

I have a chevrolet trailblazer 2003. i was driving the vehicle as usual. the speedometer quit working and other various lights on my dash board lit up, i.e. change oil light, check engine light. a chevrolet dealer checked the vehicle and told me it was the instrument panel cluster and that it would be about $420,00. it works periodically for a few days and then goes back out again. i have checked the web site and chevrolet knows about this and had a recall for a short time and did not notify its customers. i only found about this when a friend also had the same problems with her tahoe and she had talked to a mechanic who said he fixed the same problem for one of his custormers and found our that there had been a recall that chevrolet did not notify it's customers. my husband and i have doctors appt. that are at least 75 miles one way and i worry about getting a ticket or having further vehicle damage related to this concern. i

Starting in november 2008 while living in minnesota, the instrument cluster on my 2003 chevy trailblazer started showing incorrect readings. first, the speedometer, then at one time or another, most of the gauges like fuel, temp, and oil pressure. the speedometer would read 100 mph with the car stopped. after winter, the gauges and speedometer returned to normal with only an occasional bad reading. i moved to florida in 2009, and went about six months with no issues, but starting summer of 2010, the erratic speedometer readings started again. i contacted chevy and was told a similar problem had been the the subject of a recall for tahoes and other vehicles, but that the trailblazer was not included in the recall, and i would have to pay the +/- $700 repair bill myself.

Speedometer on our 2003 chevrolet trailblazer started acting erratically--never going down to zero, going up to 80 or above for no reason, etc.--about 2 years ago. in a matter of weeks, after the first onset of the problem, it stopped working altogether and has not moved above zero since. we were told that the whole instrument cluster would have to be replaced to fix the issue with the speedometer. luckily, all of the other gauges are still functioning properly as of right now but from what i have found in my research of this issue it seems to be only a matter of time before they all will cease to function properly as well. i have seen and read many reports about this problem but i am sure it would be safe to say that there are many more instances that have gone unreported. please look into this very serious safety issue as soon as possible. it does not seem likely or merely coincidental that so many trailblazers are experiencing the very same instrument cluster failure.

In july 2010 my trailblazers clutch fan and thermostat went out. i was able to diagnose the problem by the number of complaints filed on this model that were on the internet. then in october my tachometer started acting up, it broke november 24, 2010. the speedometer broke on december 3, 2010. i have found many complaints on the clutch fan going out and the cluster going out on the internet. someone at work had a problem with their envoy and it was the thermostat and their clutch fan going out. all at fairly low mileage. i am very disappointed in gm for not wanting to repair these issues so the consumer bears the costs of repair which is about 500 for the clutch fan and thermostat and 400 for the cluster.

2003 chevy trailblazer 2wd, ltz - instrument panel is failing. began with the speedometer, which does not accurately reflect the correct speed 100% of the time. now, the oil gauge is not working properly and the fuel gauge is off as well. i checked with chevrolet directly (800 222 1020) and was told that there is not a recall for this issue. however, for the same years, the silverado, avalanche were recalled! if it's an issue across chevy trucks, then the trailblazer should be recalled as well.

Driving along and speed odometer showed almost 100mph. after turning off the engine the speed read about 30mph. call the chevrolet dealer and they stated this is a very common problem with gm, and well known with the trailblazers. they stated that it was the cluster panel and gm was repairing almost all the vehicles but the trailblazer. my daughter drives the trailblazer to college and this happens all the time which is a danger not knowing what speed you are going. the dealer said gm is refusing to pay for the repairs due to so many trailblazers with this problem and it would cost up to $1500 to repair. i've made several calls to gm this past year and just get a runaround.

My 2003 chevy trailblazer seems to have a cluster motor problem. it started late last year, the speedometer was erratic, fails, starts working agian. the fuel gauge has stopped working altogether . i brought the car to a dealership to have it diagnoised and they said they was nothing wrong with the cluster. i understand that the chevy tahoes, suburbans, alvalanche and others have been recalled on this, why not the trailblazer...same engine, differant model. this is a safety issue and needs to be addressed. chevy will not do anything about it and they know that there is a problem , they just refuse to admit it. why should consumers have to pay for the $800-$900 repair when obviously its faulty?

My 2003 chevy trailblazer's speedometer does not work. thought i was going 65mph on the highway and other cars were zipping past me turned out i was only going 51 mph. i pulled over and stopped and the speedometer was just stuck on 51. i looked on-line to see if anybody had, had similar problems and to my surprise there were 100's if not 1000's of complaints for the same problems. contacted chevy and they said it was not a safety hazard, how can not knowing your exact speed all the time not be a safety hazard??? granted there were no incidents but eventually something will happen, not to mention the fact that not knowing your speed could cause you to get pulled over by the police. it will cost consumers between 400-600 dollars to fix, when it is a manufactures defect, to whom we the taxpayers just bailed out. chevy should rectify this problem as they have with the same problem for other models. they know the problem but since there are so many complaints they do not want to cover the costs. what happens if you think you are going 55 mph and actually going 70? could be alot of problems

Last dec i was driving and my tachometer began reading higher than expected. when i turned off the vehicle to refuel, the tachometer continued to read ~3000 rpm. my vehicle had approx. 38k miles on it at the time. i researched this symptom and found this is a common problem that was addressed by a recall on other gm vehicles using the same instrument clusters. one solution is to remove a fuse and then turn on the ignition switch. this resets the cluster. however, this is temporary and the problem soon returns. according to numerous internet forums, it is only a matter of time until more critical instruments (speedometer, fuel gauge, etc.) exhibit the same erratic symptoms.

One or more of the gauges on the instrument panel intermittently malfunctions. the first indication was the gas gauge, which when the gas tank was filled, the needle pointed straight down, then would change to random areas on the gauge. i thought this was a result of the float in the gas tank sticking, until the needle pointed to different areas of the gauge at different times; no rhyme or reason, and was not consistent with a sticking float. then the tachometer would read 5,000 rpm when the vehicle was in park, and 7,000 rpm when going 35 mph, and would point straight down at other times. then the speedometer would read very random speeds, never consistent, and sometimes will read over 120 mph. the temperature gauge reads different temperatures, and the needle sometimes points straight down. though these malfunctions are random among the gauges, they are constant as a whole; on a daily basis. all of these malfunctions could be a safety concern. i never know how much gas i have, which could be dangerous if i ran out while on the highway traveling at 70 mph, the speedometer is inaccurate, which could cause an accident in heavy traffic, whether traveling too fast or too slow, the temperature gauge is inaccurate, which could cause severe burns if the vehicle overheated, but failed to reflect that on the gauge, and similar safety concerns with the tachometer, which could also result in severe engine damage. i have also researched this complaint, and realized that there have been many of the same complaint submitted here, and to the manufacturer. i am very surprised that there was a recall for this problem on the 2002 model, but not on the 2003 model, since it is the same problem, and because so many complaints have been filed about it. *tr

My 2003 trailblazer ltz needs a speedometer cluster. this first started happening at approx. 59,000 miles. i now have 61,000 miles on my car, and gm refuses to have the repairs made to my car. it is a known problem on other chevy models, but gm claims there are not enough problems with the trailblazers to fix this problem. my estimate is $390.00 + tax after paying $106.00 for them to analyze the problem and tell me it is broken (which i knew because the speedometer reading 92 mph with the engine shut off in the dealership garage). i've contacted gm several times and the dealership, with no luck in getting this corrected. i've contacted the bbb also. this is a known problem, i've researched this, 100's of people have this same quality issue and it is a safety issue. as a loyal gm driver i want them to stand behind their products and fix known problems like this one. *tr

Originally, it began with the fuel gauge. every so often it would read incorrectly, both low and high. as it happened a little more often, i began asking around to find out if others i would meet had experienced the same type of defect, i found this to be a more common problem. as time passed i simply ignored the problem until after towing a few canoes up to a lake and the tachometer started reading very high, despite the motor idling normally. eventually, the tach went back to normal, but shortly after acted up again. all the while the fuel gauge is still not working properly, getting to the point where the needle is completely inverted. then the voltmeter began to climb, getting to the point where the needle is registering off the scale. so now the fuel gauge and the voltmeter are completely and obviously registering outside of their set parameters, but the tach is often suspect as well. *tr

I experienced a problem with my trail blazer about a month ago. the problem was annunciated by the engine light and reduced power. the first occurrence was while i was merging at a toll plaza in chicago that cleared after stopping the vehicle and restarting. i experienced a problem with my trail blazer about a month ago. the problem was annunciated by the engine light and reduced power. several weeks later the second time the problem reoccurred was on a secondary road and third time while making a left at an intersection and the engine light did not clear. the dealer repaired the vehicle after replacing the accelerator unit, which i understand replaced a simple accelerator cable. the concern is the projected failure of a critical part of the vehicle failing while merging or making left turns in front of on coming traffic and the significant risk to injury to the driver and passengers inside the vehicle. if gm engineer can design an electronic component to replace a simple accelerator cable, i assume the component standards would equal the same reliability as the cable. response by chevrolet: good evening! thank you for contacting the chevrolet customer assistance center. we sincerely apologize for the engine light and reduced power concerns you were experiencing on your 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. in addition, we also deeply regret to hear the misfortunate incidents you experienced while the concern was being resolved. we, at chevrolet, understand that of all the factors involved in customer satisfaction, safety is of primary concern. please be assured that chevrolet works diligently to provide a high quality product that we hope will exceed your expectations. however, when dealing with a mechanical part, there is always a chance that something might fail. that is something we cannot speculate on; and why we do provide a warranty on that item of 12 months, or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.*ak

Complaint received via e-mail. i would like to share the defects discovered on my vehicle since i purchased this on october 2003. few months i drove my trailblazer, i was stuck at the airport because it won't start and i brought it to the dealership for repair which lasted for 3 days. they told me it was just a case of low battery power. i was not in agreement with their reason. i wrote gm headquarters demanding an exchange or replacement of the truck. they declined my request, instead they offered me an extended warranty. the following year, i was driving at around 25 mph, when i changed gear all of a sudden the gear shifter came loose and practically detached it's linkage. i panicked and slowly pulled over to the side of the road. the dealer repaired the shifter for free. then just this month i was driving on the freeway at around 50 mph, i noticed the rpm was between 7-8 and the engine revved hard, but there was no power. the speed remained constant even when i pressed the gas pedal fully. i brought the vehicle to the dealership and they found out that the transmission is defective and they replaced it under warranty. the total mileage driven as of this time is 30,000 miles. *jb

Since january of 2005 my 2003 trail blazer has been blowing the ignition fuse every time i start my truck. it will try until i turn it off and than no power. when this happens my turn signals go out, and my gauge goes hay wire. i thought it had to do with my remote start, and i had that completely removed. now it does it more often. i took it to the dealership, and they charged me $20 to put a fuse back in which i told the dealership that is what i have to do to get it started, but it will blow again. before i left the dealership the fuse blow the service manager just came out and replaced the fuse again and did not care that it was going to blow again. he basically just wanted me to leave the dealership. guess what before i even turned out the fuse was blown again. when i dropped it off they were suppose to figure out what was causing this to happen, but they said they replaced the fuse, and it was fine. if i wanted them to look into it further it would cost $300. just to look at more. i am pretty much at a loss because my vehicle is over the miles, but is only a 1 and a half years old. i don't know what to do. i think it was really bad that before i left the dealership i had the same problem , and they were fine with letting me leave. *ak

1st incident (july 2004): while driving about 20 mph, vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. could not get it to start and key locked in ignition while truck was still in gear. other times previous, vehicle took a few times to start. ignition switch was intermittent. while in for repair first time, found that when vehicle stalled, it lost ignition input. codes that came up with scan check were u1000, u1016, u1152, b1372 and u1088. ignition switch was replaced with new, fp#12450251-switch 2.188 r. all other fuses and wiring to ignition were found to be ok. 2nd-current incident (october 2006): vehicle took several times to start (same as original problem). vehicle would turnover but would not start engine. tried several times before battery died. current evaluation from service tech is that the ignition switch is bad. key is locking in ignition and can't move gears. tow driver had to jump battery to get vehicle in and out of neutral for tow and to remove key from ignition. still waiting on extended warranty provider to approve this replacement (although the original warranty provider is now bankrupt). we may have to pay for this repair out of pocket if warranty issue is not resolved. *nm

My 11-month old 2003 chevrolet trailblazer has had multiple quality problems, twice affecting my safety. most of the problems have been electrical in nature. the 4wd has become inoperable numerous times, once while driving in snow. in another incident during a severe thunderstorm at night the air conditioner (a/c) failed and i was unable to defrost my windshield in order to see. after one dealer failed to diagnose the 4wd problem, another dealer replaced my ignition switch because the technician said i had no power at all going to the rear grid. i continue to have intermittent electrical problems, including near stalling at a traffic light, and ongoing 4wd failures. the car also has very jerky motion when in 4wd reverse, of course, when the 4wd is working at all. the dealer told me that was normal and now i see there is a service bulletin on the problem. *la

Summary: multiple gauges on the instrument panel are malfunctioning. the tachometer is reading 5,000 rpm when the vehicle was in park, and 7,000 rpm when going 15 mph. when i turn the car off the gauge sits at 2,000. the speedometer is clicking up (not a smooth transition to the correct speed). and it showing a lesser speed then i am going. when i turn the car off the speedometer shows it is going 10 miles per hour but will slowly drop down to zero. both of these malfunctions could are a huge safety concern. i had to pull over on the highway while the instrument panel was showing 7,000 rpm, afraid i was going to break down and ruin my car. *tr

I own a chevy trailblazer ls 2003 and recently my dim headlights have been going out. i have replaced numerous bulb in the last 2 months and recently i have noticed that the headlight harness wiring has been shorted out and fried. the odd thing is that both dim headlight harness are fried. i maintain my vehicle fairly well and try to keep things in working order. i called the chevy dealer and they said they have not had any complaints or recall of the harness. two years ago i had a similar problem with the brake light system and finally after replacing a huge number of bulbs, the chevy company recalled the mother boards on the tail lights. with the dim lights going out when ever they want, puts the driver and other drivers at risk. an example of this is on saturday night on my way home at 8:30pm, i noticed that i did not have any dim lights. i was not in a position to get them fixed so i had to drive to my house (which-thank god was close) with my bright lights. this puts the oncoming drivers at risk of blinding and the driver is put in a awkward position for lights. *nm
