Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles built with 3.5l engines. the fuel injection delivery system can leak fuel from some of the sealing o-rings or from hair line cracks in the thermoset fuel injection rail.
Consequence SummaryFuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the fuel rail o-rings and reinforce the outlet (passenger) side fuel rail. vehicles showing fuel leakage on the outlet fuel rail must have the outlet rail replaced which includes changing the upper and lower injector o-rings. however, if a vehicle is leaking fuel from the o-rings or from a cracked fuel line, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible.
NotesOwner notification began during january 1999. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chrysler at 1-800-992-1997.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

On september 5, 2004, mr. robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.his petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle is being towed.mr. galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioner's 1996 dodge intrepid.on october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.that investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.this is still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsa's database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition.

On 03/21/2007 i was coming from work and smelled gasoline, on having my vehicle checked by a local mechanic, it was discovered that the fuel rail and the fuel line had become disengaged. as i had the fuel rail changed under a recall order back in 11/2007, i contacted the dealer that had completed the work back then. i was advised that if it was their fault the repairs would be made at no charge. if not i would be charged $75 per hr. it was agreed that the dealer would pick up the vehicle on 03/22/2007. as of 03/25/3007 my vehicle had still not been picked up. i am unable to drive said vehicle because of gasoline squirting out from the disconnection and pouring out on the highway and on the vehicle.*ak

Steering rack replacement in 1996 chrysler concorde is very costly and problematic. had i known about such an inherent bad design i would never have purchased this vehicle, let alone any chrysler product. my particular unit has failed at the low mileage of 110,000 and became dangerously close to failure! furthermore, during the repair process many other components had to be replaced due to the required tear down to access the failed steering rack components. in addition to the steering rack failure, the fuel rail gaskets also failed in leakage at the same time.

We smelled gas from the engine area. upon further inspection noted a leak in the fuiel injection system . gas was dripping every 1 second near the o ring by the outlet fuel rail. help!. this vehicle is not a 3.5l engine but a 3.3l 1996 chrysler concorde. i know the 3.5l had a recall on this did the 3.3l have one also and noone notice????? also when you put the floor shifter into gear i.e. drive, the vehicle does not move forward, or if in reverse that either. then it jerks into gear almost like the shifter or leavers are not working. i have had this vehicle looked at for transmission problems and that is not the issue. i do believe it may be a shifter issue and then the o ring leaking gas like a dripping faucet.
