| Defect Summary | Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. if the rubber boots on the lower lateral arm ball joints of the front suspension were damaged during assembly, dirt and water can intrude. also, mmc has added the potential of leaking moisture, which can cause the ball stud to corrode. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | This condition could cause the lower lateral arm ball joint to separate, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. this campaign supercedes mmc's previous safety recall campaign, see 99v-066. | |||||||||||||||
| Corrective Summary | Dealers will inspect the lower lateral arm ball joint for wear. ball joints that exhibit wear beyond the established tolerance will be replaced with newly designed lateral arm ball joints. ball joints that are within the established tolerance will be cleaned and a special sealant will be applied to prevent intrusion of moisture. | |||||||||||||||

| There was a recall that began on january 28, 2011 for bad ball joints. i bought the car in dec 2010 in between recalls 2009 -2011. never got a recall notice for this. on november 16 th 2012 my ball joint broke my car went out of control almost hit two phone poles had my family in the car. likely we were not hurt or killed. chrysler needs to step up and fix my car for putting bad ball joints on it . this is not the first time there was a recall on this in 2001-2009-2011 can you please help me to have chrysler fix my car. *tr | |||

| There a recall on 10-13-2009 for bad ball joints. i bought the car in 12-2010 never got a recall notice on ball joints. on nov-16-2012-we were driving with my 9 yr old and 10 year old with no warning the ball joint broke on driver side wheel . car went out of control we almost hit two phone poles the car went into a field. the wheel is now hanging off car not driveable. nobody was hurt it could of been worse. will chrysler still have honor this recall to fix my car being the recall was 3 yrs ago if i knew there was a recall i would of had this fix. *tr | |||

| Tl. the contact owns a 2000 chrysler sebring. the contact stated while driving 30 mph the front passenger side lower ball joint broke causing the vehicle to become undriveable. the contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer to have the lower ball joint replaced. a year ago the same lower ball joint was replaced by the dealer after breaking while driving 5 mph. the contact was unaware of the recall regarding the suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint (393796). the contact has not called the manufacturer regarding the lower ball joints for this year make and model. the failure mileage was 110,000. jo | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chrysler sebring. when the vehicle was started or while driving at any speed, the contact heard a grinding and squeaking noise underneath the vehicle. a mechanic stated that the front ball joints needed to be replaced. nhtsa campaign id number 00v21002 (suspension:front: control arm:lower ball joint) was referenced. the vehicle was taken to the dealer in may of 2001 and was inspected for the safety recall at that time, but no repair was made. the failure mileage was 56,184. updated 05/05/08. *lj the consumer would like to be reimbursed for the ball joints, that were recalled.. updated | |||

| I was driving my car and it started making a real loud squeaking noise like the front end was coming out from under it. i took it in and got a couple of quotes on it. all 3 of the mechanic's told me i needed to get my lower ball joints & control arm changed. both the passenger and the driver side of my car were bad. i had never gotten a recall notice in the mail. i have owned this car for over 2 years. finally i took it in on monday, july 3, 2006 and had to replace both sides. it ended up costing me over $475.00 for parts and service. *nm | |||
