SUSPENSION - FRONT - CONTROL ARM - LOWER BALL JOINT
09E056000QUALIS AUTOMOTIVE LLC E (Equipment)578711/09/2009MFRCHRYSLER GROUP LLC10/09/200910/13/2009
Defect SummaryQualis automotive is recalling certain aftermarket ball joints sold for use on certain passenger vehicles. the socket may have been excessively hardened which could cause it to crack near the retaining ring groove allowing the ball stud to separate under impact load. the subject ball joints were sold as four part numbers, d10945, d10946, g10945, and g10946. the affected control arms, d10945 and d10946, are stamped with the following dates on the ball joints: 134308, 135708, 100109, 102709, 104109, 105509, 107609, 108909, 110309, 113209, and 116609. the g10945 and g10946 are the same part as the d10945 and d10946 respectively. they are labeled differently depending on the aftermarket customer.
Consequence SummarySeparation of the ball stud from the socket of the ball joint housing would allow the control arm to collapse and the wheel to fold in causing loss of steering control, possibly resulting in a crash.
Corrective SummaryQualis automotive will replace the ball joints free of charge. the safety recall began on november 9, 2009.
NotesThis recall only pertains to aftermarket ball joints and has no relation to any original equipment installed on vehicles produced by chrysler.owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov .

I had just turned around in a parking lot when the drivers side lower ball joint separated from the control arm and the wheel collapsed and the inner cv joint separated. if i had been traveling on the street at the time, a major accident would have been likely. about a thousand miles later the passenger side ball joint separated from the control arm just as the car was put into reverse. this time the didn't move more than about 6 inches and no other damage was done. *tr

After turning around in a trailer park parking lot just started going forward when the lower ball joint separated from the lower control arm causing the left front tire to collapse from under the car and disabling the steering. if this had happened on the street at normal speeds it would probably have caused a major crash. *tr

I was driving my vehicle and started to hear a knocking in the rear of my vehicle. i stopped at a muffler/shock dealer and they had to replace a broken upper strut plate and bearings on the right rear, because these parts had completely rusted away. my vehicle is only 4-years old. about a month later, the same thing happened to the left rear of my vehicle, but the shop could not locate any repair parts. there are so many of these parts breaking the dealers can't keep the parts on hand. i was told by chrysler corp and other parts dealers; that there are over 9,000 of these strut-plates on back order. this makes driving the car unsafe, and with these many breakdowns the vehicle should be included in a recall to reimburse owners for this expense. *tr

I was turning right after a stop, and my front right ball joint failed, causing the car suspension to fall onto the wheel rim, and i lost my steering. i backed up to get out of the way of cross-traffic, and inadvertently pulled the right boot out of the transmission, and the front passenger corner of the car fell all the way to the ground. car was towed, inspected, and found tat the left ball joint was also loose, so i replaced both sides, as well as a new right drive axle and boot. the mechanic said that this model has greaseless bearings in the ball joints, which is a problem he has seen before. total repair bill was over $770. i feel lucky, in that in another 5 miles i would have been on an interstate highway. *tr

I have just bought a chrysler sebring 2004, and experienced some problems. i have not been to teh dealer yet for them, just wanted to conform the problem first. i did a search online and saw this website an dthe i agreed with all the complaints already on here. 1). the car idles badly, and when slowing down at a light or while u have your foot on the brake, the vehicle will jump forward suddenly! i almost hit the car in front of me. this has happened twice so far. i have 128 miles on my car. after reading same complaints on this website, i am affraid that the dealer will not be able to fix this, which is pathetic that a 30000 dollar car would have something like this that is so annoying. 2. when u are decellerating with ur foot on brake to stop at a stop light for example, just before the rpm needle reaches teh idle point at 1 almost.. it will suddenly go back up to about 1.5 and then come back to 1. i dont know if its bad gear shifting by teh autotran or just bad timming adjustement? but its annoying, cuz it make teh car jump a little if you are soft braking. 3). twice already the engine just dies.. and i think thsi is related to the previous two problems. i was backing up in my parking at hime.. and as soon as i put gear in reverse.. the rpm sudeenly dropped.. and eventually engine shut down. same thing happened when i pulled up to the parking entrance at work to show my access card, and when i put it in p, the rpm dropped causing the car to stall. 4). transmission makes clunk sound sometimes while driving when changing from n to d. or when i do a cold start in teh morning and then put teh gear in d, as soon as i move teh car an inch.. it makes thsi sound.. somethimes looks liek coming from teh front end not the tran.. i donno what that is. but this also has been reported by other people on this same site, no one is hurt but i see my self bumping someone in future sooo clearly.!!*ak

I was driving along, and suddenly a rattling noise started coming from the right rear of the car when i would hit bumps. the car's handling was the same and the vehicle still felt stable, so i continued driving until i got to the dealership the next day. the y advised that the rear strut mounts had deteriorated, and that chrysler had revised the mounts after my vehicle year because of so many people having the same problem. now i have to pay $300 to get them fixed! *tr
