Defect SummaryOn certain sedans and convertible model vehicles, the right steering knuckle may have been damaged during the component manufacturing process.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause the steering knuckle to crack and separate from the upper control arm, which could result in a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect and replace the right steering knuckle. the recall began on december 27, 2004. owners should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2005 chrylser sebring. whenever you turn the vehicle on the horn comes on and will not stop honking. to turn it off you have to remove the fuse from the fuse box. also while driving the power steering works properly but trying to parallel park there is a grinding noise coming from the passenger side. the dealer was called and informed of the failure but stated his vin was not included in the recall nhtsa campaign id number: 04v579000; component: steering: linkages: knuckle: spindle: arm. he would have to pay to repair the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and also stated his vin was not included in the recall and offered no other assistance. the failure mileage were 80,000....mw

 Purchased 2002 chrysler sebring in 2005. car was making grinding sound a couple of months later from front passenger side tire or shock. dealer replaced steering gear and tie rods. one month later, dealer again had to replace same parts. four months later, while driving on interstate, entire upper ball joint came apart causing complete loss of steering. dealer replaced upper ball joint and control arm on passenger side. less than two years later, lower control arm and ball joints disintegrated. dealer refused to repair or warranty. *tr

 Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler sebring touring. while driving approximately 40 mph she had difficulty steering. the steering column also turned upside down while driving. the failure occurred intermittently at first, but then became progressively worst over a period of time. although she experienced an identical failure, her vehicle identification number was excluded from recall number 04v579000 (steering:linkages:knuckle:spindle:arm). the air bag warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument panel. the failure mileage was 116,000. the current mileage was 117,000.

 The right steering knuckle on the consumer's 2005 chrysler sebring broke causing loss of steering control. *nm consequently the consumer had an accident and the vehicle was totaled. a recall was issued in dec 2004 after the consumer had the accident. *jb
