| AQ10001 | CHRYSLER GROUP LLC | 11/18/2010 | Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit | |||
| The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened. | ||||||

| I have a 2007 chrysler sebring automatic 4 cylinder. when driving the car intends to stutter somewhat. especially in the rain. but whenever it accelerates at low speeds it would jump or hesitate like it wants to stall, i dont know if it could be the fuel type. i talked it over with the dealership they said it could be anything. i havent gotten it checked out yet because their going to charge me and if they cant figure the problem out. then i wont be able to get my money back. plus when going up a hill at a steady pace and at usual it would normally decrease in speed, i would have to smash on the pedal to just kick it in the next gear | |||

| My sebring stalls when i come to a stop or am traveling at low speeds. the car has stalled in the middle of intersections and is obviously very dangerous to drive. the car additionally lunges at low speeds or when i accelerate. the seatbelt light on the dash goes on and off sporadically. i have determined through personal investigation the wire connection for the seatbelt light is under the driver seat and it doesnt always make a good connection. when the connector is touched the light will go off and on so that tells me that the connector has a short and is faulty. a plastic part in the gear shift has broken and made it impossible to shift without manipluation with a screw driver, and there is a loud clicking sound that comes out of the air condition vent/duct when the ac is turned on. i have owned many vehicles through the years and this is the first car that i have purchased that i am actually scared for my family and i to drive anywhere. i will never again purchase a chrylser, but not just because of the above but because they have not gained my trust. this company should try a new campaign of trying to gain the trust of the consumer, and they could start by accepting the fact that they have many faulty vehicles that need to be recalled and repaired, this is not only good sound advice this would be good business practice. | |||

| The 2007 chrysler sebring touring car was listed in the consumer magazines as having a steering and driving feel issue. it tends to make you over correct left and right. it is very hard to drive and is dangerous to drive on slippery, rain, wet, light snow surfaces. on dry surfaces there is already the isue of trying to go straight without overcorrecting . there a lack of road feel and plenty of body roll like a 1970 or 1980 mercedes . i own a 2007 2.7 touring 6 cylinder chrysler sebring now for 4 years and i have had the same issues from the first day i bought it new. the dealers say they can not find anything wrong with it. why in 2007 the consumer magazine who tested the cars wrote it up as haviing a bad steering feel that they were uncomfortable with, and they were expert drivers. you can not control this car under saftely under normal to light rain and light snow driving conditions. you have to slow down under the highway driving speed of 45mph,which can get you a ticket, on intersection speed of 55-60 mph. i have been drving for over 40 years with a very good driving record. i am surprised that a car like this would be sold to the public using old or outdated technology just for a profit no matter who gets hurt. when the transmission would not come out of park i was sent a recall from chrysler and they fixed no fee. i have had wiring issues bulbs blowing and speedometer lights out so you can not see at night. trouble with fuses and modules to be replaced. i had to at least notify someone on this website . i was'nt aware of this site and i am glad that you guys do the good work that you are doing. | |||

| Multiple issues with this vehicle. the latest one is the most serious. a faulty abs sensor cause the brakes to operate abnormally. the abs light may come on then go off and (periodically goes on and off). regardless of the light status, the abs system randomly engages and does not allow the vehicle to stop in a safe manner. the abs when engaged resists the driver from apply pressure to the brake pedal. the result is the car not stopping. luckily i was going slow and there was no one around other wise there would have been an accident. the abs light came on, resisted my braking force then went off and allow the brakes to engage as anticipated. the roads were normal, dry and free of debris/ loose fill. this happened twice over two days. on the second day i parked the car and let it sit until it's service date. the service department diagnosed a faulty sensor with code c1044. they said it was due to rust. first this is a 2007 car, second if rust on a sensor is going to inhibit normal braking then the part is defective and or the design is defective. i was lucky some one else is not going to be. abs is designed to pump the brakes under certain conditions. i'm sure normal driving at 25 mph on a dry normal surface isn't one of them. even if the abs fails the operator should still be able to stop the car by applying manual force to the brake petal. this failure does not allow effective use of the brakes! second issue is the lights (both interior and exterior dimming) with audible surges in the climate control blower. the dealer says this is due to my remote starter even though this issue has been occurring well before the remote starter was involved. third issue is the rear window repeatedly coming out of track there were other issues with the brakes rotors warping and brake light coming on, gas cap light coming on, tire sensors | |||

| I purchased a 2007 chrysler sebring in november of 2007. on the way home i encountered issues with the heating and defrosting system and subsequently received a recall on this issue. several months after the purchase of the vehicle i began to experience problems with the engine stalling upon coming to a normal stop or sudden stop with the engiine stalling without notice. i have taken the car to the dealer numerous times and they continually tell me they can not find anything wrong with the car and the computer indicates no faults or error codes. the stalling has occurred at least 20-30 times since i purchased the vehicle. this tuesday the 19th of october, it stalled yet again and had to be towed off the freeway on a rainy day during rush hours. i took the car back to the dealer that day and again they checked it and said nothing registered on the computer. i advised them of the obvious safety hazard with the car stalling and they agree but still indicate there is nothing they can do because nothing registers on the computer and they are not able to duplicate the problem. i do not feel safe driving this car nor allowing my daughter to drive it, it stalled on her on the freeway, and the chrysler dealer i have been taking it to does not appear to be interested in doing much about it even to a point about making it difficult to obtain a rental while the car is in service. i have also contacted chrysler and they have given me a case number to investigate the issue. | |||

| I left work and my 2007 chrysler sebring would not shift out of park (it's an automatic). i eventually had to have my car towed for a total of 280. i learned that an internal spring and another part inside of the shifter had broken.based on what i read, it seems tobe a common problem with the later model sebrings. | |||

| I have a 2007 chrysler sebring and the gear shifter stopped working. (shift assembly) the shifter will no longer shift out of park by just pressing the break. we tried to reset it but it would not work and also tried other options in the car manuel and they didn't work. we took the cover off and tried to find the problem we found that the only way to move into gear is by pressing down the pink button on the left hand side in the downward position while pressing the break and it will go in and out of gear. went to the dodge dealership and they said this is not the first time they have seen this problem in this year model and make. the issue is about $300 to fix, we had this vehicle for less than a year before it happened and the car itself is in great condition. the issue is the shift assembly we have yet to get it fixed because the car was new and is obviously a defect from the manufacturer. the car showed no signs of anything wrong before it happened just went to start it and wouldn't move from the park position. | |||

| My wife drives a 2007 chrysler sebring and on may 25th 2010 when she got in her car to go home from work, she was unable to shift the car out of park. she immediately called me and i looked for information on the web and discovered this was sort of a common problem for chrysler and it was due to a faulty or defective 'shift interlock control system'. on several forums i saw that several sebrings, pt cruisers, and chrysler 300s have had the same or similar issues. we called our local chrysler/dodge dealership, landmark chrysler dodger in morrow, ga and the service center informed us that they see this issue all the time and it not only affects the vehicles mentioned above, but it also includes dodge chargers as well. the went on to state that it would cost us approximately $350 to fix the issue. there is no way to disable the system and circuvent the cost of repauir, our only option is to pay to have it fixed . | |||

| The car runs find most of the time. but sometimes, while you are driving, the accelerator will lose power and regardless of how much pressure you apply, the car will not go forward. it doesn't happen all of the time. i have taken the car to a chyrsler dealership three times and they have been unable to fix it. | |||

| I bought my 2007 chrysler sebring back in october 2007 and have had it ever since. however, after the first year , i started having problem with the electronic throttle control light which will come on sometime and never go off unless you stop the car and restart. the electronic throttle control light always come on when i am in heavy highway traffic of when i am driving in the city . when electronic throttle control light is on you cannot break to stop the car, or speed up. it make you loose control of the whole car increasing the potentiality of accident if you was driving at any speed above 25 mph.therefore when i drive i always make sure i am close to the curb. i went to chrysler dealerships, but they do not know what is going on with the car or could cause that failure, `and have no idea how to fix it.i do not know if this problem is related to the power train. many other owners of 2007 chrysler sebring have had the same problem. this problem happened to me already more than 30 times, luckily i am a good driver, and with luck i was able to handle the car. i went to pennsylvania this weekend and almost did not make it home. also last night it happened to me twice at 12 am right at the exit of 295 while there was cars behind me and i almost got into an accidents | |||
