Defect SummaryVehicle description: pickup trucks. sound deadener material inside the steering wheel could become detached from the cover and housing. note: the ram pickup trucks were built at the warren assembly plant (s in the 11th vin position) from may 16, 2000 through october 23, 2000; st. louis north assembly plant (j in the 11th vin position) from may 19, 2000 through october 23, 2000; lago alberto assembly plant (m in the 11th vin position) from may 23, 2000 through october 23, 2000; and saltillo assembly plant (g in the 11th vin position) from may 23, 2000 through october 23, 2000. important: vehicles that have already had the proper clockspring installed, according to warranty records, have been excluded from this recall. in addition, 1997-2000 model year vehicles that have had a suspect replacement clockspring installed, according to warranty records, have been added to this recall.
Consequence SummaryWhen this occurs, the material could interfere with the clockspring ribbon and cause an open circuit. the driver air bag system will become disabled, and the air bag warning lamp will illuminate on the instrument panel.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the clockspring assembly. owner notification began june 18, 2001. also some 1997-200 model year vehicles that, according to warranty records, have had a suspect replacement clockspring installed, will also be included in this campaign. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Defect SummaryVehicle description: van and wagon model passenger vehicles. if water/road salt gets on the interior floor of the vehicle in the proximity of the air bag electronic control module (aecm), the aecm can corrode. the resulting corrosion can cause the driver side air bag to deploy inadvertently.
Consequence SummaryDeployment of the air bag without warning could cause a driver to lose vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash and personal injury.
Corrective SummaryDealers wil replace the aecm with an aecm that is sealed from moisture intrusion.

 Intermediate shaft was defective, causing steering column to break. after contacting dealer.*ak consumer had the intermediate shaft replaced twice within 20,000 miles. the driver side mirror was loose. because of the noise in the steering while turning, the clock spring was removed and the steering wheel reinstalled. the problem still existed. rear speaker was inoperative and replaced. *jg

 When turning steering wheel to the left or right there is a clicking noise. consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they stated is sounded like it may be the clock spring. consumer felt that airbags may not deploy in an emergency situation.*ak

 Vehicle was hit from side at 35 mph and was forced into a wall head-on at 35 mph. upon impact, driver's air bag did not deploy, causing injuries to driver's neck. please give any further details. *ak
 While traveling at 40 mph and when trying to avoid an accident consumer ran into two poles head-on, and air bags did not deploy. manufacturer was notified. please provide further information.*ak

 While driving the van between 20-25 mph, going around a curb, driver slightly tapped the brake pedal, released the pedal and tapped the brake pedal again. at that time, the air bag on the driver's side deployed for no apparent reason. the deployment caused the driver to crash into a mailbox. the air bag is being replaced. *ak

 While driving the vehicle at 35 mph, first the abs brakes did not work. then a frontal impact accident occurred, the air bags did not deploy on impact. no injuries occurred. dealer sent out investigation team that stated the air bags were okay. reports from the fire department and police department stated the air bags should have deployed. dealer cannot duplicate the problem.
