The vehicle was taken in for current recall on ball joint boot on 3/16/01. dealer reported part was on national back order and could take up to one year to get part. i dont feel the recall letter reads indicates the urgency nor the seriousness of not getting the vehicle repaired immediately. as of 3/16/01 the left ball joint had no problem with boot when inspected although the right boot had cracked. the left ball joint was the one that separated causing the accident. the recall is for inspection of boot and replacement if needed. i am glad i wasn't doing 65 mph with my family in the vehicle. maybe chrysler should rethink there motive for inspection and replacement as necessary and replace the all before someone loses their life.

I own a 1995 eagle talon which has a safety recall, nhtsa campaign number: 00v421002. i was not notified of the recall by the manufacturer. the recall was discovered when the lower ball joint seperated as i was driving the vehicle. fortunatley there was no accident. the dealer will not replace the right broken ball joint with the newly designed lateral arm ball joint free of charge. the ball joint i have referred to is the original equipment which was installed on the vehicle at the time of delivery to the first purchaser. the dealership also stated that the left ball joint is also defective and unsafe and needs to be replaced with the newly designed lateral arm ball joint. their reason for not complying with the recall free of charge is that the vehicle had been lowered. the lowering of the vehicle did not involve the replacement or alterations made on the ball joint lateral arm in any way and does not make the vehicle more difficult to repair. it does not change the fact that the lower lateral arm ball joint is defective and unsafe. the manufacturer did not comply with federal regulation 49 cfr part 577 requiring notification to purchasers of safety recalls. (chrysler has my owner information on file.) title 49 of the usc states the manufacturer is responsible to replace free of charge, any safety- related defect of an item of original equipment. thank you. *la

My complaint is in regards to a serious defect/crash hazard in suspension: front:control arm: lower ball joint defect that has been recalled (id 00v421002, dec 15, 2000) last week my daughter had just got off the interstate and her right front ball joint broke completely off with no warning or sign of wear. this also caused the axle to pull away completely. i got the car fixed, and believe it or not the left side let go today, again just as she got off the interstate on her way home from school. a year ago or so we had them checked because of the recall and they said they were ok. i think they were defective from the start. ball joints should not have a traumatic failure like this with no warning or sign of wear. this is a serious problem which needs to be taken care of immediately before some one gets hurt. i also feel that the manufacture should be responsible for my costs which have now totaled about $800. please help me in this matter and let me know who else i should be talking to. i am not going to let this one slide by. *jb

I owned a 1995 eagle talon that i took in to the chrysler dealer to inspect a ball joint recall and inspect a belt. they said the ball joint was ok and fixed the belt problem. about 3 months later i was turning into a gas station and the vehicles ball joint fell off. im not sure of the date of incident sop i entered a generic date. i sold the vehicle over a year ago but i forgot to submit this investigation to your dept. please look into this because there mechanics don't know what's going on and the investigations specialist did not even look at the car because it was not convenient for him he stated. i could of died if this happened at an intersection where i was crossing i could of killed someone or myself. or if i was traveling faster than 10-15 mph it could of been much more serious than what it was. property damaged was occurred only on my car. the crash was not with another vehicle but me sliding into a curb. another dealer fixed the damage free of charge but i had to fight chrysler to pay for my broken fog light. *nlm
