Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles. if the rubber boots on the lower lateral arm ball joints of the front suspension were damaged during assembly, dirt and water can intrude.
Consequence SummaryThis condition could cause the lower lateral arm ball joint to separate, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the rubber boots, and if the boot is damaged, they will replace the lower lateral arm and ball joint on the affected vehicles.

Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles. if the rubber boots on the lower lateral arm ball joints of the front suspension were damaged during assembly, dirt and water can intrude. also, mmc has added the potential of leaking moisture, which can cause the ball stud to corrode.
Consequence SummaryThis condition could cause the lower lateral arm ball joint to separate, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. this campaign supercedes mmc's previous safety recall campaign, see 99v-066.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the lower lateral arm ball joint for wear. ball joints that exhibit wear beyond the established tolerance will be replaced with newly designed lateral arm ball joints. ball joints that are within the established tolerance will be cleaned and a special sealant will be applied to prevent intrusion of moisture.

 Vehicle was taken to dealer for recall 00v421002 repairs on lower ball joints. dealer stated they were worn, but refused to replace them. consumer had ball joints replaced at an independent repair shop. please provide additional information.*ak

 Consumer received recall notice for inspection of tears in the lower lateral ball joints, however consumer experienced a failure of the right front suspension componets, consumer is requesting reimbursement for this failure in which he believes the recall was never performed.(attorney for client)*jb

 Received recall notice concerning lower ball joint failure. contacted 2 different dealerships. each dealership refused to do recall repairs. both insisted that they did not have the proper tools for repairs. *ak

 Received recall notice #99v066003. set appointment with dealer. took vehicle to dealership. was informed by mechanic, after checking vehicle, that the vehicle did not have the problem indicated in recall letter. was driving vehicle into a parking lot when the wheel came off. taking vehicle back to dealership to have the repair done. *ak

 When hitting a puddle of water the steering wheel locks up for about 5 seconds then it will go back to normal. also, consumer received a recall on the ball joints and lower control arm. took vehicle into dealership and they claimed to have inspected vehicle and found no problem. consumer experienced exactly what recall letter indicated. *ak

 Consumer received a recall (00v421002/ manufacturer's recall 967 for 2nd time. a year ago when the 1st letter was received, dealer inspected it and said it was okay. when consumer responded to 2nd response dealer (messey yeardley chrysler jeep & eagle) stated that vehicle was too low to put on a lift. this was not a issue when it was taken in the 1st time. dealer stated they didn't look at it. *ak
