| I was driving my 2008 ford escape and was waiting at an intersection to turn left when the green light came on. i proceeded to step on the gas pedal so i could go but for some reason the gas pedal was hard and the car would not move no matter how hard i pressed on the pedal. i kept on pressing the gas pedal and eventually the vehicle bolted and went into the middle of the instersection where the left turning light signal was now gone and now found myself in the middle of incoming traffic. traffic had to stop both directions and eventually after continuously pressing on the gas pedal, the car moved and eventually i was able to leave the intersection. the same situation occurred again a day later while driving and i had to continuously press on the gas pedal to keep moving while it was raining and then the day after that. this is becoming a hazard and a safety issue for me. i contacted ford but was told that because the car is no longer under warranty they cannot do anything about it. since i have contacted ford before about the same problem i 2010 and received a letter 3 years ago to take the car to be fixed, i assumed that ford would have fixed it again since this is clearly a manufacturing defect issue with the gas pedal. i would like the ntsa to investigate this gas pedal that is sticking and hopefully force ford to recall such vehicles as they are a death trap especially for an expectant mother. | |||

| My daughter was entering an interstate from a cloverleaf when the steering failed and locked which forced the vehicle across to lanes of traffic. luckily there was not an accident and she was able to get it to the berm and turn off the motor.. after the initial shock of almost being killed she restarted the car and the steering worked. this is the second time the steering has failed. i contacted the dealer and they said they have never heard of this before, even though i contacted them when it happened the first time! this is dangerous and ford should be made to replace all of the steering columns on the 2008 escapes since this is the year they were first introduced on this vehicle and by the amount of complaints and reports i have discovered. the nhtsa has issued recalls on vehicles with far less dangerous problems in the past. | |||

| I was driving my 2008 ford escape in a mall parking lot, and when i approach a stop sign the vehicle was extremely hard to stop.i had to use the full force of the break all the way down to maintain the vehicle from surging/ crashing into cars in front of me. the engine was staying accelerated and would continue to climb in rpms even thou the gas pedal was not being pressed. i pulled off to the side away from other cars and put the car into parked. at this time the vehicle accelerated on its own to about 8000 rpms. the only way to stop the engine was to completely turn the car off with the key. upon turning on the vehicle again the problem did not continue. | |||

| Starting in the fall of 2009 when the weather got colder, the throttle became unresponsive and harder to depress, requiring a greater effort to press down the pedal to un-stick and only then would the throttle pedal depress beyond the idle position. therefore, the vehicle continues to lurch forward creating a sudden, dangerous condition. the problem has been persistent and continues to get worse. | |||

| I was in my car and when i stepped on the gas to accelerate and pull out on to the road, my engine raced and i only rolled forward, down the small slope, into traffic. after about 3 seconds my transmission caught and the car jumped forward and i momentarily lost control, barely missing another car in the other lane. turns out almost all of the transmission fluid had leaked out from the transmission cooler, causing a malfunctioning transmission. after bringing the vehichle in to get inspected, and talking to multiple dealers, they all say that they consistently fix this issue on the 2008 ford escape. some even say they have trouble stocking the part because they do so many. the vehichle has a faulty transmission cooler/ac condensor that consistently breaks and causes the vehichle to lose transmission fluid, resulting in unsafe vehichles. | |||

| Purchased 2008 ford escape in june 2007. after around 25k miles the transmission was leaking fluid according to the ford service center we took it to. they repaired this at no cost since this was under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. had a minor issue back in august with the air fan not blowing air properly. the fan had to be placed on high before it would blow out any air. this was fixed and cost approx. 200 dollars since the warranty was out in june 2007. no big deal. then on october 30, around 73k miles on the car, it started stalling while driving and shaking violently. put on brakes it would start to stall and when giving gas it would shake and then stall. took it to the ford service shop which is also the dealer where we have purchased around 5 or 6 vehicles and who has always serviced our ford vehicles and were told that it needed a brand new transmission and since it is out of warranty this will cost $4,900.00. have checked on numerous websites and this is a common issue with ford escapes. i actually know someone who bought her vehicle at the same dealer, the same year vehicle and had the same exact problem with around the same mileage when her transmission went out as well as the fan problem. i do not feel that i should have to pay for this since we had the same issue back when the car only had 25k miles on it. this car is only 3 1/2 years old and we should not have these many issues with this car. i cannot afford to have it fixed so it will sit in my driveway. | |||

| 2008 ford escape has 68,000 miles on it, the transmission is jerking when shifting into first and second gear. it is really bad shifting to second, it's almost like the motor is dropping. my a/c also just started having issues, the fan only works on high. | |||

| While trying to leave a fast food drive up my power steering froze up. i had to manually ream on the steering wheel to make all corners from the restaurant to my condo - approximately 4 miles. i did not have any component messages on the read out. when the tow truck driver arrived an hour later he was able to move the suv from the garage to his flatbed tow truck - no problem. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where it was checked out for two days. nothing was found. | |||

| Tl-the contact owns a 2008 ford escape ltd. the contact stated that when trying to accelerate her vehicle the gas pedal would hesitate and the vehicle would not move forward. she would pat her foot on the accelerator pedal a couple of times in order for it to start moving. this failure has occurred on a intermittent basis. the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer nor has the vehicle been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 68,000. tb | |||

| 2008 ford escape failure to excel or sticking when pushing the gas pedal. after happening too many times, and scares us to use the car we took it in for repairs. according to warranty, this is not covered yet there was no regular maintance needed or required on the gas pedal. they weren't going to honor our extended warranty until we showed them numerous online emails of others having the same problem. we had to pay $100 deductible from our extended warranty policy. we feel they aren't telling the general public this is a problem with this particular vehicle. we feel this is a serious safety issue and needs a recall. | |||

| 2008 ford escape gas pedal sticks in cold weather. when the car is started in the morning after a cold night it is very difficult to push the pedal down. after warming it is drivable but has occasionally, in cold weather become difficult to push down after a few miles also. this is very scary. my escape is a stick shift so i was able to put the car in neutral and try to pump the pedal up and down to loosen it up. car is now at the dealer and waiting for the throttle body replacement which is on back order. web search found others with the same problem after car has about 40k miles. do no see any recalls at this time but it is a safety concern. | |||

| Car burned down to the frame. turned the car on it started to smell like something was burning. smoke and fire started coming out of the a/c vents. left the vehicle immediately and it went up in flames. after speaking with the police and firemen and they had a chance to look at the remains of the car once the fire was put out, the best conclusion they could come up with as to what happened was some sort of electrical fuse malfunction. | |||

| I own a 2008 ford escape. for the past few months my gas pedal has been sticking and it makes it hard to accelerate. when pulling out into intersections the pedal will get stuck and i can't accelerate. after reading up on this apparently this is becoming a common problem among other escapes and they need to be recalled. | |||

| Just lucky we pulled over for gas. our vehicle keep running even when it was turned off. 2008 ford escape 4dr 2wd xls with 48,0087 miles would not turn off. we stopped, purchased new battery $90 and continued 15 miles to charoltte parking lot. we were advise to pull out gas module, disconnect the cable to battery and we would get home. wrong, after aaa tow 109 miles back to sc budd's delivered it to benson's ford for review. after 5 hours no clue by co. next day after 12 pm. co said ford engineering told them how to fix my anti-lock brake system with $589 module, f80 fuse and $39 rubber hose leaking.hose had hole in it. this car never in collision yet. we were saved by tow from aaa in charlotte nc to easley area. they say charges $1300 for sure. i know this must be the first report. but i wanted to let our national agency know about the defect. please call if needed. email is gwen.neighbors@gmail.com. we got lucky, we stopped before we lost brakes. there was however reported leaking rubber hose to replace. we were lucky, other may not be. i have always been cautious with cars..also reported 091b10 recall not advertised by ford. that's leaky coolent. not fixed yet. | |||

| Whatever causes the back hatch to stay in the open position while loading or unloading stuff in the back of the 2008 escape failed in my car. i was putting groceries in the back of my escape when the hydaulic or whatever died and the whole damn back hood fell to the closed position with me standing under it. i barely had the strength to lift it enough to get ou of the way. then the weight of it slammed shut again. | |||
