| A problem that surfaced again after experiences many times since the above mentioned incident date: a wrench sign was coming on the dashborad frequently, and sometimes disappeared itself without doing anything.similar sign or indication for oil change was also experienced even after a scheduled oil change was done with the dealer. when the problem was reported in early period, i (the customer) was advised to disregard, because the mechanic forgot to reset after the oil service, when ford customer service was notified today (11/7/12), it was acknowledged as a service issue, which i do not agree. since the problem existed when the vehicle was new in early stages after the purchase, my concern is that this is a manufacturing defect with battery door which malfunctions, and does not allow ventillation on & off. the battery was down, all controls disappeared and the car was locked in position about two years ago (approximate june 2010). that time a major service was perofrmed, which required a month long period to fix it. (safecar reference 365127). unfortunately, i never heard back from your office on this past issue and complaint. since both problems have to do with battery and monitoring devices, i would like to inform for safety of all using this model. please let me know your findings on battery vent door functioning. thanks | |||

| The hcu unit which is specific to hybrid escapes went out on me causing abs to not function properly (brakes turned to sponge). i was inside of warranty 8years/ 100000 miles unique hybrid component. i had less than 48,000 and was inside of four years of having bought the hybrid suv brand new. contacted ford dealership which then directed me to ford corporate office. they said the warranty did not cover the unique hybrid component!! i had room to stop so i was lucky that no one was hurt when the hcu unit went out. | |||

| I am the owner of a 2008 ford escape hybrid with approx. 50k miles. as with many complaints related to escape hybrid, i was driving on the interstate in perfect weather conditions at approx. 70mph when without any warning, the engine shut down and the master vehicle electrical hazard warning lamp lit up. steering and braking were normal but i had to coast to the shoulder across several lanes of busy highway traffic to stop. it was terrifying. i gathered myself and my three terrified children and started the car again with no problem. the same incident occurred three more times before i was able to make it to my destination, but i was anticipating the issue and stayed in the right hand lane. this issue is being reported time and again yet no action is being taken to address this obvious defect. what is ford and nhtsa waiting for? this is an extremely dangerous issue! please, before someone is injured or dies. | |||

| Driving at 55 mph, engine stopped, kicked out of gear, loud beep sounded, and dashboard warning light came on. triangle with bolt inside. message said slow down and pull over. this had happened 3 times before while in cruise control, but i was not in cruise control this time. first time it happened, i consulted the manual. it said to turn off the engine and restart. i did, and warning light went off. same next 2 instances. i attempted this fix four times on this last occasion. car would restart, then engine would shut down in a few hundred feet. finally called tow truck. ford dealer found bad auxiliary water pump connected to hybrid system. in researching this, i found this is a common problem with ford escape hybrids. called ford customer service, but they refused to do anything about the repair, which cost $700. felt very unsafe with the way the engine just shut down. luckily, i was on a road with a shoulder. if i had been on a bridge, tunnel, or in traffic, i could have been killed, the engine shut down so quickly. ford needs to issue a recall on these water pumps, as their failure causes a dangerous engine failure. | |||

| While driving on the highway during a long trip (9 hours) a triangular warning light flashed on: stop safely now, and the car decelerated quickly as though the engine had abruptly stopped, barely allowing time to pull off road. fortunately, there was a shoulder at that spot on the highway. there is no way to safely stop a car this suddenly that is traveling on a highway! after reading the manual which directed driver to wait a bit and then restart car, the driver did so and everything seemed fine until it happened again, twice, on the highway again after driving for only 2 hours. please; just because there wasn't a crash, injury, fire, or death does not mean this is safe enough. | |||

| Driver heat was scorching hot, passenger heat warm. 7/27/11. replaced blend door actuator. seemed to work fine. 6/11/12 heat blowing scorching hot; ac not working at all. dealer tested with dye in the system (no leaks), topped off fluids. worked for a few days. retested & they remove replace condensor recharge 7/2/12 ac blowing scorching hot heat. | |||

| Going from missouri to arkansas my car simply stopped running no indicator lighs were on at the time and a triangle came on stating i could pull over safely now and stop. i turned off the engine after trying to make the electric battery engine work. nothing happened. people helped me push my car off the road and then a man suggested i try to start it again. it started right up and ran for another 20-30 miles and then proceeded to do this about every 5-10 miles for hours. the temp was raining and about 60 degrees. again on the way home in dry weather and at night it did the same thing for 136 miles. this was at night and i tried to keep it at 60 mph. finaly dropping it to 50 and finally made it home. i'm taking it to my mechanic but when i called ford where i bought the car they said they never heard of this problem. i find this to be an untruth and ford ( which my family has sworn by for many years) refuses to acknowledge this problem. | |||

| Driving on the highway and abs and emergency brake lights came on, along with message system brake faliure and regen brakes disabled. at this time, the brakes almost feel totally out (1/2 pressed) or very touchy (full press). took it to a ford dealership and they said they needed to replace abs module ($2500) which we agreed to. a few days after it was replaced, same thing happend (lights, messages and brakes issues). we took it back, and by the time it was to the dealership the lights, messages and brakes were back to normal. they couldnt find an issues. a few days later, it happened agian while in a traffic jam (very scary!!!) took it immediatly to a dealership to have them check the codes. took the codes to the original dealership and they took my escape for 2 days, syaing they reset the codes and it was a computer issue. 5 days later it happened agian in our downtown (very scarry). no one seems to know what is going on. i have contacted ford and they are not familiar with this issue however i have seen other mentions about this online. | |||

| Driving on a highway when i suddenly lost all power. the dashboard of the vehicle showed a symbol of an exclamation point surrounded by a triangle. moreover, the dash stated stop safely now. at this time we had been traveling in a work zone that was one lane, and surrounded by concrete barriers, with no shoulder. a tractor trailer was following closely, so when i all of a sudden went from 65 to no power whatsoever, i was almost hit. furthermore, i had to block traffic to turn off my vehicle and to restart it. my 2008 ford escape hybrid repeated this same occurrence many times. since the first incident, this has happened numerous times, unfortunately all occurring on highways where i was traveling at significant speeds. i have spent a lot of money that has not resolved this recurring problem, which is a significant safety hazard. ford has not posted any recalls, but the blogs have shown that many others have suffered from this occurrence. please step in and advice ford that although the limp home mode may be for the safety of the vehicle, it is not safe for me. | |||

| I have a 2008 ford hybrid escape. while driving on a recent trip - 70mph in 92 degree heat, i experienced a sudden loss of power, and a message on the dash that said stop safely now. this happened repeatedly, as i was trying to get home to nc from florida. i wondered if i had purchased some bad gas, so refilled the tank. i drove the last 4 hours without problems, but the temperature fell to the 70s. however, yesterday, as i googled the problem, i found numerous mentions of the same problem with various fixes all over the internet. some drivers reported the scary situation of driving on a 2 lane highway without a shoulder to pull over on, and the same loss of power. it is very sudden with no warning whatsoever. in most cases, after the power failure, the car starts right up and you can drive on, but the same thing will happen again in from 10 to 90 minutes. it was very scary. i have not taken the car in yet, but think the problem should definitely be investigated. ford knows about it and has not come up with any one fix. | |||
