Truck was parked in driveway when it suddenly caught on fire under the hood burning through the hood in a matter of seconds.firefighters called to the scene said they have never seen anything like it before. i believe this fire was caused by the speed control switch, of which there have been at least two recalls on of which we were never informed about.

The vehicle was parked in front of my home, and about 30 minutes after the vehicle was parked, it caught fire. the vehicle had been turned off for about 30 minutes before it began to smoke and then caught fire and flames burned through the entire front of the vehicle. the fire then spread and burned through the tire before the fire department was able to contain and put out the flames.

When trying to back out of my driveway, the truck made a loud popping sound from the engine. when i raised the hood, i could smell unburnt fuel. i then did some research online and found out that this could be a blown spark plug from the cylinder head. i have read many forums and talked to several mechanics about the symptoms i have experienced. all have said this is a very common problem with this engine and other ford engines. i called ford motor co. and they were not aware of any problems with this engine. my local dealer was aware of the problem and therefore stock plenty of ignition coils on hand. this repair is estimated to cost me $400. ford should be responsible for this cost, no questions asked.

My truck was parked on my driveway, and had not been driven in about 2wks. i didn't even think that the battery had a charge. my [kathy] wife and a salesman and i just happened to be standing a few feet away having a conversation, when we smelled wires burning. i quickly raised the hood of the truck to see the plug wires connected to the brake master cylcender smoking. at that time i of course disconnected it.

The vehicle was parked in front of our house and had not been driven for several hours before it caught fire. i was in the back yard with my wife when we heard the explosion and we ran to see what it was. when i got to the front of the house the vehicle was already desroyed. the hood had melted and the explosion was the left front tire exploding from the heat coming from under the hood. the fire department came and put out the fire. this was a total lose.

Our 2000 f150 pickup exploded after being parked for approximately 36 hours. the recall on the cruise control had supposedly been replaced at a ford dealership a couple of years earlier. my husband and i were out of town at the time but fortunately my mother was home and heard the big boom and called 911 for the fire department. she then went down to our house and used a garden hose to keep the grass and surronding area wet so that our home would not catch on fire. the vehicle was a total loss but thankfully my husband wasn't driving it when it happened and my mom was at home to help prevent our house from catching fire also. we feel blessed that all we lost was the truck and not our home or life. the truck was in excellent shape and well maintained . this incident makes us wonder if the ford dealership actually replaced the part under recall.

I was traveling in neutral, downhill, at about 40mph through a shallow turn as i was exiting a highway. when i put the truck in 4th gear to accelerate, i had no power. the tachometer was at zero and i tried to turn on the hazard lights and begin breaking, both failed to work. i had no lights or any other electrical power (it was daylight) i downshifted and turned to ease off the road, i had no power steering, then the steering wheel locked. i halted the truck with the e brake once i was slow enough and on the edge of the road. i tried to restart it several times but notihing would happen. the truck had zero electrical power. after about 15 minutes it started back up as if nothing was wrong. when i got it to john elway ford in denver co, the mechanics said the computer didn't log any errors and there was nothing they could do. i contacted ford and they refused to do anything. i contacted the bbb and they just reiterated fords policy. the problem has never been fixed since no one can find the reason for it. it has happened one other time to me in 2007 (i think).

My 2000 ford f150 was sitting in my parents driveway as we were visiting. we heard a loud noise but couldn't figure out what it was. when i looked out the window, i saw my truck on fire. my dad got a hose and i called 911 and between dad and the firemen, the fire was put out without hitting the other vehicles nearby or the garage. the f150 is totalled with the hood totally gone and the engine, electrical and other components in the compartment burned up as well as the front windshield and the dashboard. this could have been more serious as i was just about to leave to take my 5 year-old niece home w/my 9 year-old daughter.

The starter motor was engaging while the engine was running with the key in the run position. i had to disconnect the battery to stop it. the heater blower, parking lights, dash light and gauges, key chime, and radio would turn on and off by themselves without a key in the ignition. according to the ford dealer, this was all caused by water leaking in from the windshield causing the fuse block and gem module to short out. they said it was a common occurrence with windshield leaks on 2000 ford f-150's. they had to remove the windshield and reseal it and replace starter, fuse block, and gem module. this windshield was also resealed 2 weeks after buying this vehicle brand new from the dealer in 2000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford f-150. on february 10, 2009, the vehicle caught fire while parked. the fire originated underneath the hood. the fire department issued case number 09-0000089 and stated that the fire was caused by the electrical wiring cluster. a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that the contact would receive a package within 15 business days. the failure and current mileages were 200,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford f-150. the contact has been experiencing multiple electrical system failures. the locks and windshield wipers worked sporadically or would not work when the switch was activated. the heater in the vehicle would also work randomly. the volume in the radio would increase while he attempted to turn it down. he called a dealer and the mechanic discovered nhtsa campaign id number 00v072000 (electrical system:fuses and circuit breakers), but it only applied to the ford explorer. the contact was experiencing the same failure as noted in the recall. the vehicle is being taken to the dealer on january 5, 2009 for a diagnosis. the failure mileage was 145,000 and current mileage was 150,000.

My 2000 ford f-150 burned to a crisp last night. i had driven the vehicle and parked it in my driveway and was inside putting the groceries away when i heard a boom outside and when i ran out i observed a fired from the engine compartment. it appears to me that the vehicle is totaled. there was some minor damage to my residence and i now have a really cool looking garbage can from the heat of the fire. friends informed me today that there have been numerous recalls, and similar incidents, but i have not heard about any recalls. what can i do about this besides contacting my insurance company(s)? *nm

The vehicle started however, i was unable to shift it into gear. after three calls to a ford dealership, i was advised to shift it into neutral, start it then shift it into drive. i was able to drive it home however, the power windows & windshield wipers were not working. i heard clicking noises coming from the fuse box. after placing it into drive, the radio would not work. when i placed it in park, the radio started working. when using the panel/floor defrost, i heard an electrical shorting noise coming from under the hood. on 1/23/05, it would not start; only the lights on the dashboard came on; i was unable to shift it into neutral; the engine did not turn over. the vehicle was towed to krieger ford. initially, i was told that it needed a new starter. after further testing, i was advised that the fuse box and gem were water-logged due to water leaking into them as the result of a faulty seal in the windshield which is the original factory installed windshield. i found an article ironically titled quality is the prime imperative with ford. the 1st paragraph states installing windshields in vehicles has always been a pain. fixing water leaks is the last thing you want to do in a vehicle assembly plant. the 2nd paragraph states ...has brought the number of windshield leaks significantly under 1 per 20 hours of production... the 3rd paragraph references the word defects. i wrote a lengthy letter dated 2/5/05 to the ceo of ford with attachments of the article, online complaints stating the same problems & questioned the september 2004 tie rod inspection procedure mailed to me from ford with regard to premature wearing and separation. i had also spoken to individuals in ford's customer service center on several occasions. i paid krieger ford over $1,000 to replace the starter (their quick fix), replace the gem & fuse box & remove & re-seal the windshield. ford responded to my letter by placing me on their promotional mailing list. documentation available. *jb

There are no events that indicate anything is wrong until the engine has no power and runs rough. a coil pack failure on # 8 cylinder on 11/14/05. a coil pack failure on # 6 cylinder on 12/05/05. a coil pack failure on # 1 cylinder on 12/15/05. all incidents show a misfire on a particular cylinder. correction to the problem is to have a coil pack installed along with a spark plug. dealer suggests replacement of all coil packs. *jb

I got off work at 6:00 pm and went straight to the gym (approx. 1 mi.). i left the gym at 7:00 pm, and drove home (approx 1 mi.). i got home about 7:15 pm and went inside and watched television with my family until 8:30 pm, which is when i went to bed. my wife and i woke up at 11:30 pm from a bright light coming through our bedroom window. when we looked out the window the light we had seen was the whole front end of my 2000 ford f-150 engulfed in flames. we called 911 and the fire dept. responded. my wife's car a 2002 hyundai accent was parked in front of the truck and had the rear bumper and tail lights melted on it before i could get it moved. about 1 year ago i had to have the mass flow air sensor replaced on the truck and the dealership supposedly took care of the cruise control recall that was placed on that model. *jb
