| Defect Summary | Certain aftermarket fuel filters sold under the purolator brand name, p/n f65277, shipped from january 16 through june 2, 2006, for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. due to incorrect design, the quick connectors may not fully seat with the tube interface, even though the person making the connection may believe that the quick connector is fully attached. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | Failure of this connection could lead to fuel spillage and, in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur. | |||||||||||||||
| Corrective Summary | Ufi will notify owners and replace the filters free of charge. the recall began on august 4, 2006. owners may contact ufi filters usa at 800-230-5876. | |||||||||||||||
| Notes | This recall only pertains to ufi filters usa (purolator) aftermarket fuel filters and has no relation to any original equipment installed on the listed passenger vehicles.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov. | |||||||||||||||

| Defect Summary | Ford is recalling certain 1997 through 2003 model year ford f-150, 2004 model year ford f-150 heritage, 1997 through 1999 model year f-250 less than 8,500 lbs. gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr), and 2002 and 2003 lincoln blackwood vehicles manufactured from june 20, 1995, through august 4, 2004, originally sold, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. prolonged exposure to road deicing chemicals may cause severe corrosion of the fuel tank straps which secure the tank to the vehicle. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | As a result of the corrosion, one or both straps may fail allowing the fuel lines to separate from the tank, or in some cases, causing the tank to contact the ground. either scenario may result in a fuel leak presenting a fire hazard. | |||||||||||||||
| Corrective Summary | Ford will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicles to a ford or lincoln dealer to have the fuel tank straps replaced with straps that have increased corrosion protection. early in this campaign, if replacement straps are not available, dealers may install a cable support under the strap as an interim repair or a steel reinforcement over the existing strap as a permanent repair. any repairs will be performed free of charge. the safety recall began on september 16, 2011. owners may contact ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. ford's recall campaign number is 11s21 | |||||||||||||||

| One or both of the steel straps holding up the fuel tank and attaching it to the truck frame can corrode and fail (break or separate).if one strap fails, the tank may tilt and drop and possibly contact the road surface.if both straps break, the entire tank may drop to the road.if either failure occurs while the vehicle is being driven, contact with the road can abrade the tank and create a hole from which gasoline can spill.when the tank drops, it remains attached to the vehicle only by the fuel filler hose and/or supply lines, or in rare instances, by the skid plate, if present.in some cases the weight of the tank sufficiently strained the hoses and fittings and caused separation and subsequent fuel leaks from those connections.the fire hazard created by leaking gasoline is increased by the possible presence of sparks created by the metal tank being dragged along the road.corrosion of the straps appears to be caused by prolonged exposure to road deicers, frequently road salt, used to treat snow or ice covered roads.states in which large quantities of deicers are applied to roads during the winter season (salt belt states) account for the predominant portion of strap failures.vehicles in these salt belt states are prone to experience corrosion related failures more frequently and earlier in a vehicle | ||||||

| Good day, my 2000 ford f150 pickup truck is involved in the gas tank straps recall. because the straps broke it caused excessive vibration from the tank that also damaged the tank; now ford has fixed the straps but now they want $1600 to fix the tank which broke because of the damage straps originally. i have never had a vehicle with such a severe rust problem. i think this vehicle should have a fuel tank recall also. the fuel line all got rusted and broke on me; i had to change out all the lines. now the gas tank and straps are all rusted out. thanks, | |||

| As of 12-10-2010 i was at work and was walking toward the truck and notice the gas tank was hanging.i called my boss and told him the situation.so i took a rachet strap and strap it up.drove over sixty miles home to local auto store and picked up new straps.as i was replacing straps i notice a strong odor of gas.also when replacing these straps that i notice alot of rust on gas tank where gas straps were placed.wanted to take a wire brush to it but was afraid of the wire brush putting a hole through it.also maybe a spark and kaboom.besides that took the truck to dealership and service advisor came to us and told us that gas tank has 3 holes in tank around front strap and is to dangerous to drive.he said that he would get ahold of ford and more than likely they would put us in a rental and fix tank.he comes back and said they would not fix.he told us that we have a case.so called ford and they told me that the only way they would fix the tank if it would drop to the ground.i see that as a personal safety issue for me and people behind me.ford showed no concern and that bothered me.but since the tank dropped i have smelt gas and the dealership noticed the corrosion and rust under the straps and ford still did not care. | |||

| I may be possible that if your vehicle is operated in a high corrosion areas for an extended period of time, one or both fuel tank straps could potentially fracture. strap fracture may result in the fuel tank contacting the ground. if the fuel tank contacts thge ground and develops a leak while driving, there is a potential for fire. the time ford estimates for this repair to occur is erroneous. it takes half a day in the shop to determine if the straps are in good of bad shape. then they have to order a repair kit. to do the actualy repair, close to a day in the shop. i need my vechicle for work and ford will not loan me one free of charge. | |||

| Ford has issued a recall for defective fuel tank straps that may corrode and cause a potential fuel leak. i brought my truck in for the recall and sure enough my straps are corroded. the vehicle is at a ford dealership and they will not replace the straps because the corroded straps have started to corrode the tank. according to the dealer the tank will begin leaking if they replace the straps. the dealer called ford customer care and they would not cover the tank. i also called ford and they refused to cover the tank and also will not replace the straps unless i purchase a tank from them to replace. if my straps break i will lose my tank and potentially cause a fire or accident to another vehicle. the recall does not currently address additional damage caused by the defective straps. the damage to my tank is a direct result of the defective straps and should be covered under this recall. i leave in new england and am sure there are many other ford trucks with the same problem. what recourse do i have to get this resolved? spoke with mark, a customer service supervisor at ford customer care in florida, case # 607483151. any assistance would be appreciated, | |||

| On friday, july 29, 2011 i noticed something hanging down below my 2000 model year ford f150 pickup truck. upon closer investigation i discovered that the dangling object was the remains of the front fuel tank mounting strap which had failed due to corrosion. the front of the fuel tank was drooping down four to six inches from its normal position and the tank was being held only by the rear strap. examination of the rear strap revealed that it was also severely rusted. the following morning i purchased new front and rear fuel tank mounting straps from my local ford dealer's parts department and installed them myself. as a retired engineer, i was disappointed by how flimsy these straps are and how their corrosion resistance is obviously inadequate to prevent failure. that evening, saturday, july 31, 2011, there was a report on a local television station of a hazmat team response to an incident near good hope road and us highway 45 in milwaukee, wisconsin in which the fuel tank of a ford f150 pickup had fallen to the ground due to failure of the fuel tank straps. that led me to the discovery that nhtsa has been investigating corrosion failures of fuel tank mounting straps on f150s. i believe the evidence shows that a vehicle safety defect is present in the design of these straps, in that the design is insufficient to prevent or withstand corrosion which could reasonably be expected to occur during the normally expected lifetime of the vehicle. i strongly urge that a mandatory recall be issued against ford f150 vehicles and any others using these or similarly inadequate fuel tank mounting straps. | |||

| In february of 2008 i was driving my 2000 ford f150 to work after completely refilling the fuel tank. as i approached the rear gate at work i crossed a set of railroad tracks and heard a lot bang and a dragging sound upon clearing the tracks. i stopped and found the fuel tank had completely detached itself from the truck and fell to the ground. the truck was towed to a local repair shop were upon they found the straps completely corroded. the fuel tank and straps were replaced and repaired (not at a ford dealer). i am writing this complaint after reading several articles about fuel tank problems and a possible probe. | |||

| A strap which holds on the gas tank on my 2000 ford f150 broke while i was driving and dragged appx. 300 yards, causing about 10 gallons to leak out on road. the local fire dept. had to be dispatched, and i had to replace the entire tank and strap system at a cost of over $800.00. the local ford dealer that did the repair did not mention anything about a known problem. | |||

| I was driving my ford f150 when suddenly i heard a sound that sounded like something was caught under the truck. slowly pulled over and found the gas tank was on the ground, held up on one end by a hose. good thing i was not going fast or on a bumpy road. if the tank had hit a bump it would have been crushes and possibly exploded. had about a half tank of gas. repairs are estimated at $270 so far. | |||

| Pulling into a parking space, i heard a loud bang and a dragging sound. i got out of my vehicle to see what i had backed into, but couldn't seen anything. i went to get back into my vehicle and heard someone say, something is hanging under your truck. when i got out and looked, i saw the gas tank laying on the ground. upon inspection, both straps had broken and the fuel lines were the only thing holding it to the truck. this occured only once so far. the truck is a 2000 f150 with 150,000 miles on it. i replaced the two straps after purchasing them from a dealer. i was shocked to see that a 24 gallon tank was held up by two small metal straps attached to the frame by a bolt on one side, and a twist lock (if you can call it that) on the other. i hope ford has found a better way to attach these on their newer vehicles, especially 4-wheel drive. | |||

| I was driving my ford f15o pick up truck and heard something like i dropped an exhaust pipe. luckily i was driving slowly about 20-25 mph. i stopped and got out to see what had happened. my gas tank that i had just filled the other day fell off. both straps broke and i was dragging the tank on the ground. i had it towed to my house for repair. after noticing that the fuel fill pipe had rusted off near the tank and both straps had failed. i decided it was to much for myself to repair. i believe i need a new gas tank and new straps. fuel was thrown up under my truck. i contacted ford but they were of little help. probably not going to buy another one. a ten year old truck this shouldn't happen to! there was no fire but i'm really glad i didn't have my grandson in the truck or that i was driving down the highway! | |||

| After i filled up with gas, i smelled gas. after this happened a couple of times, i noticed gas dripping from the tank. upon inspection, i noticed that the leak was near the filler neck, but the root cause was that one of the tank straps was completely rusted away, the other is severely corroded; the leak at the neck is because the weight of the tank is being supported by the neck. i see that several dozen cases have occurred where the tank has fallen out of the trucks going down the road, and the crack staff at nhtsa has been studying this since september to see if this is a safety concern, but they are either too inept, too corrupt, or too lazy to do theeir jobs. this is the same lack of concern for american consumers that allowed people to die from the toyota sudden accelleration issue. take you r time guys, you are only playing roulette with human lives!!!!! i will quote rhonda smith shame on nhtsa for not doing your job. i hope the new chairs of energy and commerce and oversight and reform have more respect for human life than the last ones. if so, nhtsa may be compelled to do its job! | |||
