I was traveling in neutral, downhill, at about 40mph through a shallow turn as i was exiting a highway. when i put the truck in 4th gear to accelerate, i had no power. the tachometer was at zero and i tried to turn on the hazard lights and begin breaking, both failed to work. i had no lights or any other electrical power (it was daylight) i downshifted and turned to ease off the road, i had no power steering, then the steering wheel locked. i halted the truck with the e brake once i was slow enough and on the edge of the road. i tried to restart it several times but notihing would happen. the truck had zero electrical power. after about 15 minutes it started back up as if nothing was wrong. when i got it to john elway ford in denver co, the mechanics said the computer didn't log any errors and there was nothing they could do. i contacted ford and they refused to do anything. i contacted the bbb and they just reiterated fords policy. the problem has never been fixed since no one can find the reason for it. it has happened one other time to me in 2007 (i think).

While turning off major thorough-fare, tie-rod separated from the wheel causing loss of control. truck skidded to a stop. i was fortunate it occurred in a parking lot and not into on-coming traffic. this is the 2nd rod to break on the f-150 in the past 18 months. *tr

While pulling onto the freeway this morning in rush hour traffic, the left tie rod on my 2000 f150 came apart, making it impossible to steer the vehicle. i was afraid for my life. the vehicle had just 78,670 miles on it and is used mainly by me to drive to work. on aug. 16, 2004, with just 55,849 miles, i had to have the right and left lower ball joints replaced, which the mechanic warned me were on the verge of total failure. *nm

STEERING - WHEEL AND HANDLE BAR

In 2009 the brackets connected to the frame that held up gas tank deteriorated and needed to be repaired to prevent the tank from falling off the truck. soon after that repair work was done to leaf spring brackets which had rusted off the frame. in 2010,the truck was taken in for annual inspection, it could not pass because the frame was too rusted and likely to break at any time, this truck has always had all maintenance needed when scheduled and from the exterior, it looks like it is in excellent condition, but considered to be unsafe to drive and be on the roads.
