| Tl* the contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd diesel. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked and idle when it attempted to start independently. the keys were not in the ignition at the time of failure. the contact disconnected and recharged the battery. once the battery was reinstalled in the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. he then contacted several local mechanics about the failure but no one could provide an explanation of the failure. several authorized dealers were also contacted but again they too, could not provide an explanation for the failure. the failure did not recur and the manufacturer was not contacted to report the failure. the failure and current mileage was 113,000. | |||

| While driving with my 17 month old son, my truck just quit while on the highway. no warning, no steering, no brakes, etc. would not crank immediately, took about 5-10 minutes before it started again, meanwhile i was blocking traffic and creating a life hazard to my family and other motorists. the truck would run for about 1 mile and die again, with no warning and in traffic. the problem was a cam sensor part css1603. this failure could easily cause an accident and needs to be recalled immediately! | |||

| Overhead console on 2001 f250 crew cab diesel went bad. since the very start they have had trouble. i have been on the net to at least five thousand people and all of them have the message center failure. they are making a killing because before you could buy the computer.they have made it now where you have to buy the whole console. $ 300.00 is the cheapest you will find. i have multiple sclerosis and i need a compass to get around my direction is off. i would consider this negligence because they willingly and knowingly have known of this problem and have not fixed it. *nm | |||

| Engine mis-fires and loses power when accelerating from stop/ going up hills, etc. this problem started, on an intermittent basis, at an odometer reading of only 9,000 miles. vehicle was brought to the dealer four times over 2 years to remedy - - could not diagnose or repair. suddenly became much worse at 48,000 miles. two ignition coils found faulty and replaced. now seeing the same problem at 51,000 miles. potential safety concern, due to hesitation/ lack of power when turning left across traffic or crossing traffic lanes. dealer and regional ford rep. refuse to cover repairs, even though the problem was identified under warranty, but not found and fixed until out of warranty.*ak | |||

| (1)event was instant without warning. roads were ice and snow covered. (2) popping sound from engine and sudden loss in power causing minor loss in control. speed was approx 35 mph. engine continued to run with constant popping noise after stopped. upon pulling over and inspecting engine i found a blown spark plug and damage ignition coil. (3) initial corrective action was the purchase of replacement spark plug and ignition coil based on spark plug maintenance. further inspection revealed damage in cylinder head threads caused by poor design standards. *jb | |||

| Vehicle was stalling without warning. this could either be at a stop or moving. after troubleshooting, i localized the problem to the camshaft position sensor. i took it to rivertown ford and asked them to please check it for cps error codes, and basically got blown off as if i did not know what i was talking about. i replaced the cps and it is no longer stalling. this is very dangerous - i nearly wrecked going around a corner at less than 35 miles per hour when it stalled and lost power brakes and power steering. *nm | |||

| 2001 ford super duty pickup with 7.3 diesel, while driving down highway the motor will stop running, which will effect the power steering as well as the brakes. i had the ford company check for the problem, it was the camshaft position sensor, after checking with other sources, this is a common occurrence which should be corrected. *jb | |||

| While out of town i had just exited the interstate when i heard a loud pop.my truck, a ford f250 with a 5.4 ltr triton v8 started running terrible and making a god awful noise.i managed to make it to a nearby parking lot.i opened the hood to find an ignition coil pack and sparkplug laying on top of the engine.i was able to reinstall the sparkplug and replaced the coil pack due (coil pack attachment ear had broken off when plug was ejected from engine.).approximately 2 weeks later my wife and kids were on their way to a local park.they had just turned off a major street when they heard a loud pop, they described as sounding like a gunshot. the same thing happened and to date i'm suprised that a fire has not occured or no serious injuries have occured. this is very danagerous the spark plug is actually ejected like a missle. | |||

| On november 20th i came hoome home from shopping around 8:30pm ,paprked in driveway ,turned truck off went inside tool care of dogs went out t truck to get packages.came in went to bed around 10:00pm. my husband came home from work at 1:30am parked in driveway sdidnt notice anything . sunday moring november 21st went to start truck(8:55 am) to warm up before going top get the paper , and when i opened my door to the truck it smelt and was black , the dash melted i called the police and they called the fire company the fire was out .i made a police report and the fire marshal made a report ,which he concluded the fire started in the four wheel drive swich . later that week the insurance man came looked at truck and said it would probably be a total loss, which i just received a letter from ford, they can not help me deal with the insurance co.it would cost about 12,000. to fix and the book value is 23,000.but the fact is that the wiring from the 4x4 swich is what started the fire .i plan on going to ford with this being they didnt send anyone out to look at my truck but are saying they cant help me .*ak | |||

| After noticing different electrical items remaining energized after the ignition was turned off i began doing some research. what i have learned through the local ford dealer is that the windshield sealant compound used was of poor quality from the manufacturer. overtime this allows water to seep in around the front windshield and drains into the drivers side dash area. this location houses the fuse panel and gem (generic electronic module). the water that enters the fuse panel and gem causes both units to short out, and could potentially cause a fire. the early signs of a problem are the ac fan running with the ignition off, the clock on the radio flashing when it should be off (ignition off), and the electric windows, door locks, and power mirrors to work intermittently. ford dealers are very aware of this problem and state that though ford motor company admits using poor quality sealant, they refuse to fix any of the fuse boxes or gems. while inspecting the underside of my dash i have also noted that the linkage for the brakes, passing through the firewall, is extremely rusty. eventually this rust could cause an owner to experience brake failure caused by a broken linkage. *ak | |||
