| There is a brake line to the rear wheels located roughly above the differential. that line is in close proximity to another cable (maybe the emergency brake cable) and the brake line and cable are rubbing together. the brake line is very worn in that area from contact with the cable. it looks to be worn to a point that would be very close to the coreof the brake line. of course excess pressure or further wear could cause a failure of that line and therefore loss of rear braking. *tr | |||

| Firestone tire 265/75 16, tread peeled off the tire. caused severe damage to front driver side of truck. broke wires loose including antilock brake wire. swerved dangerously to the left across 3 lanes, luckily was able to get the truck back under control. the tire and the 4 others came with the vehicle, 2001 f250sd crew cab, 56,000 miles. last week our other truck, 1998 f150 with wilderness ht tires had a tread separate and 3weeks prior to that the steel belts were broke in another tire. this truck has 28,000 miles. i think something needs to be done with firestone tires, maybe they need to shut down or quit making tires for suv's and trucks.*ak | |||

| Upon routine inspection i noticed that a line was wearing through due to rubbing on the shock tower inside the front driver side wheel well, and was actually wore past the nylon strength cords. upon closer inspection this was found to be the power steering line which is used for the hydraboost system, which uses power steering fluid to boost the brakes. had this line continued to wear until leakage or rupture i would have likely lost both ability to brake and steer the vehicle. unfortunately due to the type of connections used on this line, the new lins contacts the exact same area and will likely begin to wear through again. | |||
