No previous symptoms. could not get the vehicle to go in reverse. got towed to the dealer. diagnosis - wave plate fracture. found many many 2007 gmc acadia's had this problem, there should have been a recall. this happened 1 year after the warranty expired, but only 74419 miles, and never driven in extreme conditions and never towed.

I was driving my car when all of a sudden it wouldn't accelerate above (20mph?). i was forced to park it at an apartment complex and get it towed to the dealer. now less than 6 months after paying out of pocket for that repair, i am having the same problem.

Started shifting weird, then rpm's would spike as car was shifting. car then would not go into any gear and left stranded on side of road. had to have vehicle towed to dealership where it was found to have a broken wave plate, damaging numerous gears and torque converter. pressure control module which is part of the valve body was bad. had to replace entire transmission, all seals, gaskets. also found out when replacing that the thermostat housing was leaking coolant, so had to have that replaced at same time. this at a cost to us of over $3500.00. have read online that this is a very common issue with this vehicle. we were 7 months out of our 5 year/100,000 mile warranty and gm would not help in the least. *tr

I have owned this car for about a year and since i have owned it have had nothing but problems. first the struts were blown, the dash lights would go from bright to dim, the steering wheel made a clicking noise, the windows leak...this car only has 41,000 miles i mean come on! now the transmission has completely failed and after reading other websites it sounds like i will be paying $4,000 dollars. i am a new mom and have 3 step kids. i can't feel safe in my car because i'm worried about it breaking down constantly. now i have to dump all this money that i don't have into it. i really just want to cut my losses, but is that really the best thing to do? i'm stuck with this junker car and i couldn't feel more sorry for all these other people having the same issues. i'm absolutely miserable. thanks gmc you suck. *tr

2007 gmc acadia. consumer writes in regards to problems with the vehicle headlights and the transmission. *smd the consumer stated on december 17, 2011, the left headlight burned up for no apparent reason. the local dealer quoted him $1,213.59. he was able to get the headlight fixed for$ 695.67. on december 2, 2012 the transmission failed. the consumer had a rebuilt transmission installed at a cost of $ 3,737.25.

Prior to having the transmission break down the vehicle had been shifting hard from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. starting up a small grade from a stand still the transmission suddenly began slipping at about 20mph. the vehicle would not shift and the engine light came on. i was only about 1 mile from home so i drove it home at about 25mph. at home i put it in reverse and it would not go into reverse. took it to a transmission shop the next day, they called me back later that day and told me it needed a new transmission. they are doing the job for $3200. *tr

3 months past the 5 year 100k warranty with only 55000 miles on the car and both the water pump and transmission went out. gm paid for half of the costs still 1253.05 out of pocket when it should all have been covered. this is a consistent problem with the acadia and gm knows it but refuses to step up. the day the transmission went out we almost got thrown through the windshield definitely a safety issue.

I bought this vehicle june 2012. i started having transmission problems last week. the transmission would stick when stepping on the gas or when going in reverse into my garage. i found over 200 complaints about the transmission. this should be a recall item. i was driving on the highway trying to get up a hill when the car started to do this. i luckily was not far from my exit and made it to a gas station when the car just stopped. *tr

The vehicle would not shift out of 2nd gear going down the highway. the check engine light came on, and there are now four codes all for internal transmission issues. the car is 4 months past the 5 year warranty, but only 64000 miles. this is a huge safety issue. if this transmission fails while on an interstate highway, and it will not go over 20 mph, the results could be deadly. by researching this issue i have found a considerable amount of complaints about 2007 gmc acadias between 50000 and 80000 miles having transmission failures, but yet no recalls. this is an issue that gmc is well aware of, through their own admissions. why is there such a delay waiting for a recall? are all of the complaints going to have to wait for a fatality before gmc admits there needs to be corrective actions? *tr

The car has had electrical and engine problems since we purchased it due to water leaks from a flawed sunroof design. even after a recall to fix the sunroof to prevent water leaks; it continues to leak and damage electrical and engine systems. this is an ongoing problem and is a widespread concern for the 2007-2008 gmc acadias. i would like someone to investigate this problem. i believe it is a safety concern because the leaks occur in the area where there are airbags. i think there is a structural defect that may not be able to be repaired and it presents a safety hazard for all who drive these vehicles. please investigate this problem. do not let gmc sweep this under the rug! *tr

While traveling at 45 mph, and with no warning (weird shifting, etc) the transmission completely failed. after being lied to by the dealership and gm, i did my own research and found that this is a common problem with this model year, so much so that gm has created a special program to fund part of the repair if the vehicle is out of warranty. (wave plate failure in the transmission). this vehicle should be recalled with a mandatory replacement of the wave plate. *tr

My 2007 gmc acadia's first started having transmission problems in december of 2012. the vehicle started having issues while trying to merge onto the highway or depressing the gas pedal for a passing and/or merging purposes, this would somehow revert into a neutral position, having the rpms rev up and no forward motion , until it's sort of caught up itself by backing off on the accelerator. the other issue involved putting the automobile into reverse ,not only at times it wouldn't go into reverse but instead would revert to a neutral position, until you started all over again with the process of putting it back into park and then back into reverse. never was there a light nor a warning by the cars sensors or any other symptoms that would give an owner a warning that there would be a problem coming soon. in any event, after having the symptoms described above the car somehow dropped into first gear and cannot shift from that position and finally, the transmission light came on. at the moment, i am in the process of filing a complaint with gm and at the advice of the gm representative, they advise me to have the dealership look into the situation. in my opinion, this is a very dangerous situation. seeing all the same complaints on the internet leads me to believe that there should be a further discussion on the transmission of the 2007 gmc acadia. thank you *tr

Transmission went completely out while driving on i-79 4 hours from home, while driving the speed limit of 60-65mph, had to push car out of road, towed car to a dealership that we did not know, was told the transmission was completely gone and had to be replaced at a replacement cost of $3600. had to rent a car to get back home in which cost $275.00, went looking into this matter found over 90 pages of complaints on edmunds.com. *tr

While accelerating vehicle started to shake between 30-40 mph. shaking subsides at around 45 mph. this started around may 2012 with 99,000 miles on the car. took the car to the dealer to have it checked out because i though it was the transmission. they thought the tires needed to be rotated and balanced, which did not fix the problem. by 106,000 miles it was so bad that the vehicle could not be driven safely. this time the dealership said it was the motor mounts, which did not fix the problem. i had them keep the car until they found the problem. after 2 weeks they determined that it was the transmission! after the transmission was replaced the vehicle drives great. i have read hundreds of complaints on the acadia transmission and there are likely tens of thousands of cases just like mine. there should be a recall for the transmission on this vehicle. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle started to slow down without any warning. approximately a few minutes later into her drive the vehicle started to speed back up. the vehicle was later towed to a dealer for diagnosis. after diagnosis they advised her that the transmission has failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. the failure and current mileages were approximately 86,000. the vin was unavailable. tb

9/27 as i was driving in a residential neighborhood to take my daughter to school i was approaching a green light at a four way and started to accelerate to 35 mph from a complete stop to cross four lanes of traffic. the vehicle reached 35 mph and although the speedometer stated 35mph the vehicle stopped moving and stalled and started making a churning noise coming from the engine. at this point my front end was in traffic under the light that was now turning red so i had to think quick and put on my flashers to alert the other drivers that i was having difficulties as i couldn't get the truck to move. when i pressed the gas pedal the engine just roared but no movement. once other drivers were alerted i had to coast backwards from the incline at the light and maneuver onto the side of the road. i turned the truck back on and it came on and miraculously i was able to drive it 5ft off the road before it stalled again. i had to be towed to a dealer as of today i was told it was the transmission but the dealer had to contact gmc to report all major engine failure before proceeding with any work. last year in dec. my truck started making whining noise and i immediately took it to the dealer to find out that the camshaft had went bad and spit metal in my motor causing me to have the engine replaced. because i was the second owner of the vehicle gm didn't want to pay for the total bill under the powertrain warranty and the fact that i was 3000 miles over the powertrain warranty itself. they did pay a third of a $5000 bill and i had to pay the rest only to have them place a recall on the camshaft and to reimburse me half of what i paid. this situation with the transmission reminds me of the rollover with the firestone tire ford had years back but the difference is that ford and firestone took responsibility. please make gm responsible before someone is killed. *tr

My transmission went out after 58,000 miles and 5 years and 5 months. so i am over my warranty by 5 months and am out $3300. in doing some research, there seems be an abnormally high incident of transmission failures on the 2007 gmc acadia. some bloggers indicate that the acadia models have big issues before the 2010 model. is there a systematic issue that gmc needs to address or am i just unlucky? *tr

Basically bottom line is this is the 4th major thing i've had my acadia in the shop for. this repair of a rebuilt transmission is costing me 3500.00 out of my pocket. supposedly the gm customer rep does not think there is anything they can do for me because my car is 5 years old and 131000 miles.. that is just bs!!!!! i spent 40,000.00 on this car to drive it longer than this and for all the things to start nickel and dimming me is ridiculous. the mechanic at the gm certified garage told me that gm used a prt in the transmission on the 07-10 models of the acadia that cost them 1.69 and that they know they should have used a part that cost them 39.00, so this is the part that is breaking in the transmissions and making them junk and having to be rebuilt or new ones put it.. gm didn't want to recall the 07-10 models because it would have affected millions of cars, so they are just letting the owners suffer for their stupidity and lack of responsibility. my biggest complaint after the money is the fact the my child was driving my vehicle when this happened, he was panicked as he could not go over 30mph on a very busy road and the vehicle started to shut down on him!! he is very lucky the vehicle made it to a safe place and he was not rear ended as the car just stopped on him!!! really gm when are you going to recall these models and make it right for all of us that have to encounter such a high expense?? i really can not afford another vehicle or the $3500.00 to repair this one, but that is my only choice!!!! *tr

While driving, the vehicle started skipping/catching while accelerating and the temperature gauge started to creep up. i entered a left turn lane in order to pull over. when traffic cleared i attempted to accelerate to make it into the parking lot. warning bells started going off shut off engine shut off a/c enging overheat and the truck shut off. i had picked up enough momentum as i had begun my turn but it was still literally a coast into the parking lot, narrowly avoiding a t-bone situation with an oncoming mini van. it was so close the mini-van laid on the horn and slammed on her brakes. i coasted into the parking lot but was unable to make it into a spot. i took out my keys and opened my door to get out. the alarms continued even without keys in it. there was antifreeze pouring out from underneath the vehicle. i had to turn on and off the car no less than three times to stop the warning bells. i called a local shop and had it towed. they replaced the water pump and a/c belt. got my vehicle back two days later. drove to work in the morning with no issues, however coming home it started to catch/skip again. (i live only 5 miles away from work). i had my husband drive it back up to the shop to have it looked at. when he got into it he was unable to reverse it; reverse just simply stopped working. he had to turn around in our yard - on the way to the shop (6 miles away) the vehicle would not go over 30 mph and again shut off on him while trying to turn into the auto shop. the diagnosis now is that it needs a new transmission. upon further online research i have found thousands of other owners of the same model/make and year with the exact same issues occurring roughly around the same mileage/time frame. there are three other acadias alone at our local gm dealership waiting to be fixed with the exact same issues. *tr

The vehicle started over revving while changing from 1st to 2nd gear, slowing down in busy traffic. there were many in traffic who were blowing their horns and swerving to avoid my vehicle, which at the time contained my wife and three small children. the following day, the vehicle would not go into any gear. fortunately when the transmission failed, i was on a private road with minimal traffic.

*tr

Transmission failed to shift into 3rd gear from 2nd gear. has done this a lot of times for no reason at all. became a hazard when we were accelerating onto a freeway and the car would not go into gear properly.

My family of 6 was leaving sw florida this morning to drive back to ohio. about an hour into our trip i began to pass a semi when the transmission on my '07 gmc acadia locked up. the tach was pegged at 4500 but there was no response from the accelerator. im very concerned about other drivers with this same issue due to the lack of any acceleration. i consider myself to be an experienced driver, but trying to steer a dying car through 4 lanes of 70mph traffic while simultaneously answering my wife and 4 kids questions about what was happening was quite scary. please look into this soon. thanks, ryan

2007 gmc acadia: when stepping on the gas to accelerate or pass the transmission does not immediately respond (several seconds delay) which causes you to continue pushing down the gas peddle until it engages which usually causes a 10,000 rpm surge. makes it very scary when passing and the acceleration could cause issues when the road is wet or icy. gmc states that the issue is well documented and normal for the vehicle. after three attempts and discussion with the service manager who also drives this same model and states how scary it is when trying to pass in his acadia i am looking for someone to force gmc to fix the transmission before someone gets killed. according to the dealership this is a very common complaint from customers and not getting attention from the manufacturer. basically gmc states here is the fix and now you live with it! this is an actual quote. i have also spent time discussion with the so called gmc customer service rep. who basically can't/won't get me in contact with anyone who can resolve.(tomeka monroe 1-866-790-5600-ex 31353) please help, brad barger *tr

Driving my 2007 gmc acadia. went to pass a slower vehicle, pressed on the accelerator to pass and the transmission went haywire and the accelerator stuck. i had to put the car in neutral to get it stopped. the rpms were in the 4000s. then the accerlation would stop and start again over to 4000. luckily when i passed the vehicle there were no cars in front of me or i would have had a major accident with the accerlation out of control. i took it to the dealer and they told me that two of the timing chains were very worn and there was an issue with the clutch pressure control with harsh shifts in drive range 3rd and/or 5th gear. this is the second time i have had problems with this issue. the first time the gmc dealer 'flashed' (reprogrammed) the transmission, even though it was not acting up when the car was taken into the shop. if this issue is not addressed properly, i believe someone somewhere will be injured or killed. the condition my vehicle exhibited leaves me with a very uneasy feeling.

My 2007 acadia would drive above 50km it finally broke down and wouldn't move. we had to get a flatbed truck to take the car in to gm and found out it was the sway bar that was broke as well as the crankshaft sensor and just a month before this we had issues with the steering wheel that had to be fixed. there has been so many things wrong with car its unbelievable i went to trade it in and finding out that we paid 45,000 for it brand new now its only $20,000 at the max we can get for our awd acadia with most of the bells and whistles. now it is lacking power in acceleration again merging on highways or pulling out in traffic the car lulls out and sounds like its stuck in neutral and it finally kicks in and goes very dangerous i could of been rear ended the other day because of this it was a close call. *tr

Driving my 2007 gmc acadia. came upon a busy state highway. after coming to a stop, i saw an opening and pressed on the accelerator to cross the 4 lane road. when i pressed the accelerator, the car just started to creep out into traffic. the engine rpm's increased, but the car was moving at walking speed. it was obvious that the transmission had not shifted back into 1st gear. i tried to manually shift into low, but it did not respond. i finally was able to get it going fast enough to have it pick up some speed to get across the lanes of traffic. on the way home, every time i came to a stop, the car acted the same way upon acceleration. the only way i was able to get the car to go back into 1st gear was to shut the car off and restart it. even doing that, it only lasted until the next time i stopped. after letting the car sit over night, it performed fine the next day. this is the second time i have had problems with this issue. the first time the gmc dealer 'flashed' (reprogrammed) the transmission, even though it was not acting up when the car was taken into the shop. i spoke with a car dealer at the shop, and he owned the same vehicle. his transmission has been 'reflashed' 6 or 7 times for the same issue. if this issue is not addressed properly, i believe someone somewhere will be injured or killed. the condition my vehicle exhibited leaves me with a very uneasy feeling (i.e. when i press the accelerator, i expect the car to move). if reflashing the transmission (1, 2, 3, 4...7 times) does not fix the problem, then maybe something different needs to be done. *tr

2007 gmc acadia with several serious safety issues. she states that the vehicle has had these problems: a large puddle of oil under the vehicle, windshield wipers stopped working, battery died and side curtain airbags deployed while driving. *kb the dealer told the consumer the front shaft seal needed to be replaced to correct the leak from the transmission. they also stated there was a drain on the system that caused the battery to fail. the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer where they upgraded the transmission, which had to be done twice. the power steering made a loud noise, the consumer stated it sounded as if the pump was about seize and then the steering becomes hard. the vehicle rolled backwards while in drive on a slight incline.*jb updated 04/10/08

Several issues with this new 2007 gmc acadia. most prevalent is the failure of the gas gauge not reading the gas reading correctly. 1st time noticed and taken for service was 3 mo. old. the gas gauge reads (e) when i've just filled up the tank. dealer replaced 02 sensors. 1 mo later experience same issue. gas gauge reads (e) even when tank is full. taken back to dealer and this time replace (2) o2 sensors and the sending unit. 2 days later, with the gas gauge reading at half full, the car lunges forward into another gear on freeway in traffic, and stalls. cannot turn car on - all warning lights on. towed to dealer. now states that i need a whole new gas tank because the baffle is broken? still at the dealer and is unresolved. this car is unsafe. previous issues: car leaks at the sunroof. not fixed yet lumbar support broken - somewhat fixed but still not like the new ones on the lot. lumbar handle fell off - replaced backup sensors fell off of bumper - replaced seat tracks jerk - replaced both driver and pass. still not smooth but dealer says that's the best they can do. *tr

I leased a 2007 acadia on 5-24-07 and shortly after taking delivery i felt there was something wrong with the transmission and the way it shifted, i notified the dealership about the problem and took it in for repair. they told me they couldn't get the problem to repeat and felt there was nothing wrong. on 6-14-07 i took a trip to florida from michigan and got 11 miles into georgia and the transmission decided to shift into 1st gear going 70 mph. i managed to get off the road and was wondering what went wrong. i pushed the onstar button and they got me to a dealership (newton gmc in tennessee), they done a quick computer check for error codes and found many codes that they didn't know what they were but they said it was related to the transmission. i left the acadia with them and finished my trip to florida in a ford pickup. after 2 weeks the dealership got the ok from gm to replace the transmission. i am still having problems with the new transmission shifting correctly. as of 9-17-07 there is a new software update the dealerships will have to correct the shifting problems for 2007 models, the 2008 models already have the new software in them when they leave the assembly plant. this problem may be on the 2007 saturn outlook because they have the same transmission. *tr

Noticed a sudden shaking in the car when driving more than 25mph. felt the car was unsafe to drive, so left it at a local tire and auto shop for inspection the next morning. the technician called to inform us that there should be 6 bolts that attach the driveshaft to the front differential. the car only had 3 of the 6 bolts left and of those 1 was bent. they were also all loose. he suspected that they were not tightened correctly at the factory. the car was towed to the nearest dealership for inspection and repair. this car was purchased in 3/07 and currently has 12,000 miles. *tr

On july 5th 2007 my family and i were traveling in our recently purchased 2007 gmc acadia while on vacation in fenwick, de. and as we were traveling through an intersection our vehicle experience a massive failure. the front portion of the drive shaft, the portion that extends from the transaxle to the rear axle, drop from the vehicle, at speed, and caused the vehicle to loose power while at speed in traffic. realizing the loss of power, we pulled the vehicle safely to the side of the roadway to inspect the vehicle. upon looking under the vehicle, i observed the drive shaft hanging, in the forward position, to the roadway. i immediately called on-star who i found to be extremely non-responsive or helpful to our situation. the following day, the tow truck finally responded to our call and upon our direction took the vehicle to hertrick gmc for repair. later that week i ws informed that the safety ring had failed and the replacement prt was on indefinite back order. *tr

I have had my transmission worked on already on my 2007 gmc acadia the speed control in the transmission has been replaced but i still have a problem with the performance of the car. it is an all wheel drive with an automatic. it will not hold on a hill and searches for a gear or chances several times when it comes to any kind of incline even at 70 mph.i was getting 15 miles to the gallon before the new speed control now i get 13. i have spoken to my dealer several times and he says to wait and soon there should be a update in the software to address this problem i am willing to wait but want it on record that the transmission has problems. this is a new design and is very rough riding. my car has only 5000 miles on it and i have been there 4 times.
