| Driving in moderate rain around a corner at approximately 25mph. the steering wheel locked up for 1-2 seconds almost causing a crash with my two children in the vehicle. this has happened several times since i bought the vehicle 2 years ago. i brought it to the dealer and the put a new piece inside the wheel well but it has not fixed the problem. it recently happened to my wife in the same circumstances which almost caused a head on collision with another vehicle. the children were in the vehicle at the time. *tr | |||

| Power steering stops working for 5 to 10 seconds after making a turn through water often no more than a few inches in depth. usually occurs during or after rain, when water has accumulated at intersection corners or resident/business entrances. when this occurs, it becomes almost impossible to change the direction the vehicle is traveling in and has almost resulted in an accident twice so far. *tr | |||

| On two separate occasions in rainy weather i was unable to steer my car and turn it because water had gotten on the belts and belts were slipping and i had no power steering to control the car. i was told at the dealership that i needed to have both front inner wheel well front covers replaced. this would eliminate water getting on the pulleys and eliminate the slippage of the belts that run the power steering. i later found out that there was a technical bulletin out to correct this conditon. i had to pay for this work that was done which i felt should be covered by gmc as i feel it is a safety issue. i almost hit two other vehicles as a result of my not being able to steer my car and that was quite scary. i would not want this to happen to anyone else with this model car. | |||

| There has been a whine in my steering column on my 2007 gmc acadia . yesterday i was driving along a 2 lane road going into a sharp curve. i was turning my steering column to the right towards the curve, but the steering column made a loud noise and would not respond almost causing me to hit head on into an incoming car on the opposite side of the road. the car finally did respond and a wreck avoided, but that is not the point. there are numerous forums about this particular thing happening to other gmc acadias as well. the power steering going out is definitely a safety hazard and is not covered under their 100,000 mile warranty. i took my car to a auto repair shop and they indicated that the power steering pump was indeed leaking and needed replacement. these incidents need to be addressed and a recall put in place immediately on the acadia. the dealership has not wanted to take care of anything under warranty unless my vin matched the one on a particular recall even when i was having the exact problems in the recall. | |||

| Wow what a shock another gcm acadia with steering problems! i was turning a few days ago and my steering wheel locked up and it actually felt like i lost a lot of power when this happened like it was going to stall. i nearly crashed into another car because of this. it isnt a constant problem but it occurs probably 75% of the times i turn and my turns are super wide now. i cannot park on the first try which is ridiculous it takes me now 3 or 4 tries to park in a space at work. i feel like im driving my dads 1965 chevy that didnt come with power steering. why hasnt this been recalled?? are you waiting for someone to get killed because they couldnt turn fast enough??? thats negligence!! i found hundreds of different complaints about this same problem online and nothing has been done!! fix this please! | |||

| My 2007 gmc acadia has always had very poor traction on wet roads and sometimes on dry roads. yesterday i was driving on the freeway in heavy rain when the steering wheel suddenly jerked to the right as though my right front tire had run over a large object. a few minutes later it jerked right then left then right again. each time the steering wheel would lock for an instant. i found myself partly over in the other lane. a very dangerous situation. i didn't notice any warning lights. this problem occured twice more before i realized that it seemed to be happening only on upsloping parts of the road or when i tried to accelerate. as i had always suspected, the traction control system on this car is faulty and dangerous. faulty power steering cold also be a possibility. i tried to drive home at a steady speed and had no further problems. about a year ago i told my local gmc dealer that i thought the car had very poor traction and the system should be looked at. they told me they checked it out and there was no problem. | |||

| I have a 2007 gmc acadia with 59,000 miles on it. at 29,000 miles on it, they replaced the power steering pump. now at 59,000 they are saying it needs a steering rack and pinion assembly and possibly a pump. after doing some research online, i found that these items have a very high failure rate in these vehicles. this seems like an obvious defect that would be very dangerous, especially considering that when these parts fail, the vehicle is almost if not definitely impossible to steer. | |||

| I own a 2007 gmc arcadia and sometimes when i go through water (if it's been a heavy rain) my power steering does not work and it's very difficult to steer the car which could be a very dangerous situation. it happened when we were on vacation and we stopped at a auto repair shop and the owner came out and opened the hood and showed my husband that the power steering serpintine belt slipped. there is no covering over the belt and when it gets wet, it can slip. when we explained what happened, that we lost the power steering, he knew exactly what the problem was as he had had other people that had the same problem. if we had been on a major highway, doing 65 miles an hour it could have been a tragedy. it also happened again during the christmas holiday. | |||

| I purchased a brand new 2007 gmc acadia in nov. of 2007. since new it has had a steering issue that can not be fixed. the rack and pinion has been replaced and the vehicle has burned up numerous powersteering pumps. the steering, while in a curve, will lock up and then release throwing the vehicle in the direction the wheel is turned. it has thrown the vehicle into the other lane of on coming traffic as well as throwing the vehicle of the road into a fence. each time the dealership has picked the vehicle up replaced the steering pumps but the problem still remains. the vehicle currently has 47,000 miles on it. the transmission locked up and the shifting components were replaced, then the transmission locked up and was replaced. the steering issue is are main concern. it was taken in on 9/28/10 and received new transmission and powersteering pump. we received the vehicle on 10/25/2010. on, 10/28/10 the vehicle steering locked up again throwing my wife off the road into a fence. there is no way that gm has put three bad power steering pumps on the vehicle. the vehicle has a more serious problem that is binding the steering causing the pumps to burn up. the same problem has made the vehicle unsafe to drive due to the danger of it locking up and throwing the vehicle into on coming traffic. i have all service records reporting this issue. i will not allow my back in this vehicle and i am not comfortable trading it in for another family to be killed in it. i could not live with that. gm will doing nothing about as they have been contacted. please help me get a replacement for this vehicle (same year model type and equally equiped) and get this vehicle off the road. i could trade it in as gm wants me too and they will give me $1600 off the trade. but could not sleep at night knowing i put someone else and their familes in danger with this vehicle. my email is eapatt76@yahoo.com phone # 870/483/3529 anthony patterson | |||

| We were driving between jackson hole and thayne, wyoming and got into a heavy rainstorm and started to experience a slight steering problem. it was not until we stopped and parked for a few minutes and then started up that we really experience a serious problem. the steering wheel began to shutter, making it extremely difficult to steer the vehicle to the point that we forced to park the vehicle until the next morning. after sitting over night and allowed to dry out, the steering improved, but there still remained a slight shutter as we start to move and attempt to steer either right or left. it has left us a little concerned over this matter, causing me to take it to our local gmc dealership (harmon's motor, provo, utah). they checked the water shields and found them in tact so they chose to replace the serpentine belt. otherwise,. there remains a slight lag or pause in the steering on start up when turning the steering wheel, which translates into a slight shutter. once under way, the steering returns to normal. *tr | |||

| 1st there was a loud squeal, car had been sitting out while it was raining. then another time my power steering went out when i (had no choice) drove through a puddle. called a dealer because it's still new & they wanted to replace my power steering pump. over $500 cost there. i took it to an independent repair shop and they said it absolutely shouldn't be the pump because of the age & mileage, probably just a belt. checked it over and said the rain/water probably caused the belt to slip, which in turn caused me to lose power steering. he said some cars have shields to cover the belts for that reason and showed me where all this occurred. made sense to me and saved me a lot of money. i live in nc and my kids and i were visiting family in oh, i feel dealer tried to take advantage of that fact...long drive home...don't want to lose it. drove fine and still is now. of course, we don't have much rain here to really check it out. *tr | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. while driving at any speed, the contact felt a vibration in the steering wheel and heard a grinding noise coming from the dashboard area of the vehicle. the steering wheel would lock up and made turning the vehicle very difficult. she took the vehicle to two dealers. the first dealer was unable to find any failures. the second dealer heard the noise and felt the vibration, but could not repair the failures. weeks after the incident, she took the vehicle back to the dealer from where it was purchased and was informed that the power steering pump failed. the failure was deemed to be a severe safety hazard. the dealer has been unable to repair the failure and they currently have possession of the vehicle. the failure mileage was 3,000 and current mileage was 9,000. | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact was driving approximately 20 mph, proceeding to make a right turn. a complete loss of steering power occurred without warning. there was difficulty steering the vehicle which resulted in excessive force being applied to the steering wheel. the vehicle proceeded in operation with caution. the failure was consistent. the vehicle was taken an authorized dealer on four separate occasions for the identical failures with the replacements of the power steering pump. the failure mileage was 32,000. updated 05/11/10. *lj updated 5/24/10 *cn updated 06/11/10*jb | |||

| As i was driving on a major highway, i hit a water puddle with the right front wheel during a rain storm as i was about to make a right-hand turn into a parking lot. as i began the turn the power steering stopped working. had i not slowed down to make a turn, i would have hit a car in the parking lot, but i was able to avoid it, because i was going so slow at the time. i had all i could do, to turn the wheel and keep from hitting another vehicle. i called onstar and reported the problem. they asked if i wanted roadside assistance. i said i would wait awhile and see if it would work later. about an hour later it worked, but was whistling and groaning. i was able to make it home. the next day (sunday) i took it to the dealer and they didn't see anything wrong. they advise me to call the next day for an appointment, which i did. it went in to the dealer at 10:30 am that day. apparently there as a service bulletin about that problem and the fender liner/splash guard has been re-designed. a recall or letter notifying owners may prevent a serious accident. *tr | |||

| 2007 gmc acadia with several serious safety issues. she states that the vehicle has had these problems: a large puddle of oil under the vehicle, windshield wipers stopped working, battery died and side curtain airbags deployed while driving. *kb the dealer told the consumer the front shaft seal needed to be replaced to correct the leak from the transmission. they also stated there was a drain on the system that caused the battery to fail. the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer where they upgraded the transmission, which had to be done twice. the power steering made a loud noise, the consumer stated it sounded as if the pump was about seize and then the steering becomes hard. the vehicle rolled backwards while in drive on a slight incline.*jb updated 04/10/08 | |||
