| On february 16, 2012, american honda motor company (honda) notified the nhtsa that it had decided a defect exists in certain model year 2008 through 2009 odyssey vehicles.gas-filled struts that help to raise and support the liftgate of vehicles equipped with a power liftgate system may be prone to early life failures due to a manufacturing flaw.the flaw can result in a leak of the pressurized gas, leading to reduced strut performance.struts with diminished performance can lead to unexpected closure, increasing the risk of personal injury.stabilus was identified as the manufacturer of these gas-filled strutsthis matter was assigned recall number 12v-062.in reviewing past records, rmd discovered similar recalls conducted by toyota, ford, and honda between 2006 and 2010.on february 18, 2010, honda notified the nhtsa of the same rear liftgate gas strut issue in its 2005 odyssey vehicles.this issue was given recall number 10v-055.on may 30, 2008, toyota motor corporation (toyota) notified the nhtsa of the same issue found in its 2004 through 2006 sienna vehicles.this issue was given recall number 08v-244.on march 6, 2006, ford motor company (ford) notified the nhtsa of the same issue found in its 2005 through 2006 freestar and mercury monterey vehicles.this issue was given recall number 06v-069.these three recalls did not originally identify the supplier of the gas struts, however, all three manufacturers have since confirmed that stabilus supplied the equipment at issue in each recall.the purpose of the eq is to write to stabilus and to contact any other company that might have purchased this equipment, notify them of this defect in any vehicles they manufactured, and to ensure thorough safety recalls are conducted where appropriate. | ||||||

| When using the automatic sliding door on my 2008 odyssey, the door's sensor failed to auto-reverse when my 2 1/2 year old daughter reached her hand towards the door of the van from the inside. not only were her fingers and upper hand hit by the closing door, but the door failed to open and remained shut on her hand until i manually opened it. this resulted in an obvious injury to her hand and a trip to the emergency room. x-rays did not reveal a break, but she will have to be re-checked with an orthopedic, as it may have damaged the growth plate in her finger. the dealership where the car was purchased checked the sensor and stated that there is no obvious defect. *tr | |||

| We own the odyssey ex-l with a manual tailgate. the taligate has stopped opening to its maximum height. the shortened distance is not obvious until you proceed under the door and hit your head on the rear tailgate. i'm probably like most odyssey owners--more focused on her children in a parking lot than the height of my tailgate--but the headache that followed hitting my head on the tailgate this morning made me file this complaint. the door still opens smoothly but unless you are paying attention and push the tailgate up a few more inches after the liftgate supports have stopped, the door is too low and could result in a serious injury. *tr | |||

| Structure/body:hatchback/liftgate:support device---i went to open the back door on the van to get a stroller out. it was difficult to open and very heavy. when i let go the door shut on me. i had received a recall notice in the mail prior to the incident, informing me that the struts were bad and could give out unexpectedly. (ref #12v062000) when i called the dealership i was told my vehicle was under recall, but the parts were not in. after the parts arrived at the dealership, i was called and an appointment was made for the repair. upon my arrival to the dealership for the repair, i was told my vin was not under recall after all. at that point there was no helpful person at the dealership. it has been 7 months of weight lifting getting the stroller, groceries, etc. in and out of the van. still no help from honda (the dealership or national line). *tr | |||

| Rear liftgate struts failed causing liftgate to fall suddenly on me beneath the rear door. honda has already issued a recall on some 2008 models. when i called the dealer and honda customer support regarding the incident, they refused to cover repair under recall. informed about safety concern but no acknowledgment by honda that this is a safety issue with potential for injury. recall should be expanded to cover more vehicles than acknowledged by honda. honda should act responsibly to prevent injury to owners of these vehicles and recall and replace all affected vehicles before more injuries occur. the dealership told me it would cost me $200 to replace the struts. my odyssey does not have electric component struts for the rear hatch. *tr | |||

| Have three complaints. complaint one: there is extremely long pedal travel for brake pedal. this travel gives the driver a sense of brake failure, as though the brakes don't work or will not stop vehicle. has been noted in vehicle forums as a common problem complaint two: wind noise on the passenger and driver pillar that separates the front seat and the middle seat combination. has been noted in vehicle forums this is a common problem. complaint three: there is significant dirt in paint and paint shading where it doesn't match rest of vehicle (paint shading can be seen if the sun shines on the vehicle just right). honda has offered to repaint affected parts. i feel this is a common problem and the owner shouldn't be required to have a new car repainted with less than 1000 miles. has been noted in vehicle forums this is a common problem. *tr | |||

| Rear lift gate was in fully open position then fell and hit me on head while removing groceries from the rear of the vehicle. appears that the lift gate struts failed. the lift gate operates manually, not electronically or automatically.

*tr | |||

| Rear liftgate struts failed causing liftgate to fall suddenly on person beneath the rear door. honda has already issued a recall on some 2008 models. when dealer and honda customer support contacted regarding the incident refused to cover repair under recall. informed about safety concern but no acknowledgment by honda that this is a safety issue with potential for injury. recall should be expanded to cover more vehicles than acknowledged by honda. honda should act responsibly to prevent injury to owners of these vehicles and recall and replace all affected vehicles before more injuries occur. *tr | |||
