During hot weather, above 100 degrees and after several hours of driving, my elantra will feel like someone is pumping the gas peddle. it is hard to maintain a steady speed. it is hard to get to dealer with problem present, because if car is turned off problem goes away. took to dealer and they replaced spark plugs and wires, problem still there. parts not available. when this problem happens and the car is pulled into garage, a very strong smell of gas is present. my fear is that the car will catch fire or explode. i have contacted hyundai, but they appear not to care.

Car would not idle or run properly. took car to authorized repair shop and they found that almost the entire gasline from tank to engine had rusted and was leaking very badly. was told that car could easily have caught on fire and burnd up.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - CARBURETOR SYSTEM

I bought a brand new hyundai elantra on 5-8-03 and on 6-30-03 and again on 7-30-03 i have had to take the car back to the dealer to have service for the same problem, which i found out this last service call, had been a known problem with that particular car in that yr of model, and no one has a fix for the problem yet. the dealer i purchased the car from made no attempt to inform me of this problem before i purchased it, and the first dealer i took it to did not make any attempt to inform me of this known problem either. i feel that i should have been told, being that it is a major problem, there is a vaper lock problem, which causes the car to shut down while in the middle of driving at unpredictable times. it is very unsafe for me to drive it this way, being that at any given time, the car loses the ability to accelerate, and therefore offers a very high chance of me getting involved in an accident, where i do not have the driving power to move my car out of the way of on coming traffic. i am very , very upset about this, and as of yet, the only thing the dealer service department has told me is, it is a problem that our company is working on finding a fix for, but as of yet, there is no cure for this problem. that being the case, i do not feel i should have to keep this car. i do not feel safe driving in it alone, let alone aking my 9yr old daughter, and 5yr and 4 yr old sons into this car with me at all.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - DELIVERY - FUEL PUMP

My fuel pump went out on my 2003 hyundai elantra 40 miles from home on the highway on a day that was near 100 degrees outside. when picking my car up 4 days later (because they did not have the part in stock) i find out that the part was a recalled part on my car. i asked the service person why i was not notified of this and his response was that the recall was only in colorado. keep in mind that cheyenne wyoming is only 10 miles from colorado and often dealers in cheyenne get their cars from colorado. i am a consultant and i travel across the state of wyoming-my car is my employment. this put me in a situation where i could have lost my job. i had to borrow a friends car, transfer all my equipment from my car to theirs. also, i was on the interstate on a very hot day, not only is it dangerous to be stranded on the highway, but it was extremely hot outside and things could have been very bad. i do not understand why i was not notified ahead of time of this, it would have saved me an incredible amount of trouble. also, my car was full of gas fumes after the repair--i was told this was normal because of how the repair is done and that it would be gone in a couple of days. it took over a week for the stench in my car to disappear. i had to use my car immediately to travel across the state-i had to drive down the highway with my windows open in order to not get sick. i would have liked to have been notified of this defect/recall-believe i should have been notified. i was very frustrated that the service center in cheyenne was dumbfounded about the whole event. *nm
