I was just getting off the interstate and was driving home when the car made this clunking noise and then i lost control of the steering. i could no longer drive the car. after i got the car home, it was looked at and i was told the control arm rotten off the sub-frame from the inside out. i did some research and found that this was a problem with the 2001-2004 hyundai sonatas. i contacted hyundai and they did not seem to want to help me and told me this has not been a problem in the past. it apperas to me that if they recalled previous models that they have not fixed the problem. i am very thankful that the control arm did not brake while i was on the interstate driving at 65 mph.

2006 hyundai sonata drooping sun visor, comes down while driving. hyundai will not recall the sun visor although this is know problem and can cause an accident. hyundai is shifting the responsibility of repair onto the owner of vehicle which costs $80 per sun visor and an installation of $20 per visor. basically, $200 for a problem that is not the drivers fault, but a faulty design.

My driver's side sun visor broke and cannot stay up. i have to put it to the side, but it blocks side view dangerously. this is a common defect for sonata 2006-2008. the technician at the dealership noticed the problem, but never mentioned to me during warranty. many complaints have been reported to hyundai http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=157121, but hyundai simply ignores it.

Ignition key does not turn at all. steering did not lock up initially, but when i tried to turn the key along with steering, it got locked....even after that steering would move a bit (not really stalled). called aaa, couple of guys came over, tried to unlock the ignition by putting it in neutral and moving(shift override), but of no help. called one of my friend who has a hyundai sonata as well, he said it happens often on his car...he tried for 10-15 mins...got the magical combination of brake, steering and ignition key turns and it finally worked. did a search on internet and apparently its not uncommon for hyundai's at all. hate to spend money for a design flaw from the manufacturer, especially as the car is only 5-6 years old.

During operation of the vehicle, when vehicle engine speed drops to approximately 1000 - 1100 rpm, headlights will dim or briefly shut off, radio will shut off, and interior fan speed will drop. this happens for approximately 1 second and is intermittent. from searches of the internet, this appears to be a common problem requiring replacement of the positive battery cable assembly. i do not understand why this has not been handled via a recall, especially since headlights dimming off or shutting off during night driving is extremely dangerous. this has happened on multiple occasions to this car. in addition, probably due to this voltage drop problem, several headlights, brake lights etc., have had to be replaced. this has already cost me several hundred dollars in troubleshooting and repair, prior to learning about the cable assembly.

Drivers side visor fails to stay in upright position and will fall to a position that can block the drivers visual field. this is apparently a common defect with this model of vehicle, but hyundai fails to recognize the safety issue and will not repair or issue a recall.

When the brake was applied or excel pedal was not applied, all electricity function(radio, a/c, and headlight) went down for a second and came back again. it started happen when the vehicle marked over 100,000 miles and occurred frequently during driving. even after changing battery and alternator which dealer pointed as reasons of the problem through whole electricity check-up, it happened again and again. the dealer couldn't point out the reason. i appear this problem here for serious potential accident possibility.

Dash board air bag light came on and remained on. took to a mechanic who stated it was an error code that was not longer active. a sensor must have set it off, but there was no longer a problem. a few weeks later airbag light came on again. took vehicle to hyundai dealership who stated occupant classification system (ocs) or sensor that was part of system registered an error at some point in the past few days and that is why the light went on. they stated there was no longer an error, but that the sensor must be going bad and would need to be replaced before it failed. reason being, once the sensor failed, the air bags (at least passenger air bag, potentially whole system shut off so driver as well?) wouldn't deploy in the case of an accident because system would shut off as a result of a sensor failure. dealership stated that sensor could not be replaced individually, but that the whole passenger seat cushion would have to be replaced. the sensor is part of the ocs system. the quoted cost for the part (seat cushion with electronic sensing system) would be around $1500 total ($1350 for the part, $150 for the labor). as of now air bag light not on, sensor hasn't failed yet. once it does, need to replace if want air bag system to deploy. this seems like a very serious safety issue that should be addressed by a recall. i have read hundreds of customer complaints online that have the 2006 hyundai sonata with this problem and haven't had it fixed. as a result there are a lot of people driving around in a vehicle that some if not all of the air bags won't deploy in (and most if not all of them don't realize it disables the air bag). this design flaw could result in serious injury or death. all information i received in regards to airbag light issue was from the service department at a hyundai dealership. this issue needs to be investigated and a recall needs to be issued.

Sun visor on 2006 hyundai / sonata does not stay up. it is keep on falling. i had it replaced while it was under warranty and it's broke again and it's not under warranty any longer. i see many other similar issue with same model. this would be safety issue when the visor falls while driving. hyundai should do a recall on this right away.
07/01/201065000
The sun visors on both driver and passenger seats don't stay. they are floppy and it blocks the driver's sight. it's not under warranty any longer, so i used tapes to hold them. please note that the sun visor on the diriver's side was fixed once while i had a warranty and now it happened again on both sides seat.

Both of my car visors have broken off. the first was replaced by the dealer because the car was under warranty, but this time i would have to pay for it because the warranty expired. this has happened to other people i know that has the same car. it is a manufacturing defect that poses a risk on the drivers. the visor stays half way, which affects the visibility of the driver. to be able to see, you have to manually move the visor back and forth while driving, which causes the risk to get into an accident.

Dash is cracking. it appears to be following the shape of the front passenger airbag. no parts replaced.

Driver's side and passenger side sun visor will not stay in the up position. keeps falling down while driving.
12/10/2008
The sun visors on both sides will not stay up. this is also the case for my neighbor-which has a 2006 sonata as well. it impairs vision while i'm driving and hits passengers in the head. i have replaced them once- at $125 each- only to have the same thing happen a year later.

I have a 2006 hyundai sonata 3.3. i started my car one morning and had no ecceleration in the gas peddle. i turned the car off got husband and we restarted it and had no problem. i then took a trip to houston a few weeks later and again had the problem happen to me a few times there. i did not know what to do and had to return home. i called the dealership in houston and they said it would be a minimum of $100 dollars or more to just see what was wrong. my husband said to bring it home and we will check on it. on my trip home the esc off light kept coming on and i lost acceleration while in motion on interstate 10. this happened to me many of times on the return trip home. when it went out on me, several times i had to coast to the side of the road and 3 times nearly got hit in the rear and 1 time was seriously almost rammed in the rear while on the side of the road letting the car rest before restarting it. the most terrifying moment was going over the bridge in baton rouge, la. and the esc off light kicked in and i lost acceleration and there was no side road to pull over on. i had to come to a complete stop to turn off the car and restart it 3 times before the esc off light went off and i again had acceleration. then about 20 miles outside of metairie, la. where i was heading, it started sputtering. the rpms would go down and the car would pull back, then they would jump up and the car would jerk forward. i finally made it to my destination what is normally a 4 1/2 hr drive turned in to a very stressful and fearful 8 hr drive. i did look up on google about 2006 sonata's and esc off light and found many off people having the same problem. i am putting the car in the shop tomorrow morning. i read of a woman having this problen and her car accelerating on her and plunged into a tree. this sounds to me a serious matter and seems it is going to be extremely expensive to fix when it seems to be a manufactures defect and should be fixed by hyundai.

2006 hyundai sonata has had repeated air bag sensor faults and is currently in the shop for repairs estimated at over 1300.00. the part number is 88200-0a541-fz0. hyundai will not cover any portion despite multiple complaints for the same defective component. no airbags will function unless component is replaced. consumer affairs case #3987433

Both the driver and passenger sun visors have fallen down and won't return to the correct position resulting in decreased visibility.
02/05/2009
The passenger and driver sun visors will not stay in the upper rite position. both of the sun visors fall directly in the face so that my passenger or myself is hit in the head. this is a safety hazard because in the case of an accident. the sun visors will damage our heads.

The driver side sun visor has cracked and will not stay in place. it will fall down blocking my view.
05/20/200730000
I have a 2006 hyundai sonata. three years ago, the driver's side sunvisor stopped staying in place, dropping in front of me and causing a potential obstruction. the dealer replaced this under warranty. less than a year later, the replaced visor developed the same problem. the dealer will not respond to my request that it be fixed again under warranty. i believe that this is a material defect, and it could be hazardous.

1.) i entered my car and noticed my driver side sun visor was down. i pushed it back to the upright position, but it just fell back down. 2.) it is like the spring or mechanism that holds it in place just stopped working. 3.) i have not yet heard back from the dealer about replacing the visor. when the visor is down i can not see the stop lights and have to keep holding the visor up, so my sight is not impaired.

I was backing up & slightly hit a cement pillar, causing no damage to my vehicle's back bumper. i put the vehicle in drive to move slowly forward into the parking space i had left so that i could check the damage. there was only about 8-10 feet between the pillar and the parking space. the car just took off on its own at a very fast speed. i was unable to stop the car even while stepping on the brake and had no control over the car. it hit a sign and tree causing approx. $5600 damage to my vehicle. i believe there could be a defect in the gas pedal connection. (i checked after the accident to see if perhaps a car mat had gotten under the pedal, but the mat was attached to the floor holder where it belonged.) i am concerned this could happen to someone else and cause a fatality.
