ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Unusual high oil consumption noticed around 25,000 miles. i am 61 years old and do not drive much or abuse the engine, i just wanted a reliable car with manual transmission. #1 dealer (very hostile) tested oil after 1000 miles showing only 4mm missing, however the same morning i have documented pictures showing 9 to 10mm of oil missing on the dip stick. conclusion: dealer added oil prior of calling me in to see their oil check! asked infiniti consumer afairs to redo test at second dealer. #2 dealer was much nicer to my complaint, but when i received the car after the free oil fill, the dip stick was sealed with a plastic tie! their answer was: you are not supposed to check the oil level until you come back after 2000 miles !!!. after 2000 miles of driving they opened the seal on the dip stick which showed about 12mm of oil loss. (have picture). now i concluded that the dipstick was sealed so i cannot see that they (dealer #2) overfilled oil by about 1/2 quart, why i am saying this ? because in all my private measurements show about 10mm per 1000 miles and 20 mm at 2000 miles, which is in the bad range as shown in their own tsb. currently the odometer is 32,275 miles, which is extremely low mileage for such an oil loss. they have revised the tsb 4 times to date.

I have a 2006 infiniti g35 sedan. after i purchased the car. i noticed that there was noise coming from the cars belt during cold start. i took it to the dealer they said it was the belts. i got them changed. its is still making noise. i have been on other forum sites and other people have the same problem. for some people the noise lasts a few seconds for other couple of minutes. i have always called infiniti and told them about the problem. it is not only the 2006 that have them, its is the 2003,2004,2005 and 2006 from what i have heard. *tr

Excessive oil consumption noted at 6,000 miles. continued with 1,000 mile interval test for oil consumption and found 1qt low at 7,000 miles, 1.5 qts low at 8,000 miles, and 1 qt at 9000 miles. infiniti said they ordered me a new engine. this was a 2.5 months ago and i'm at 12,500 miles. i've had to top off my engine with a 2 quarts of oil and my own service department does not call me back. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 infiniti g35 sedan. the contact heard a ticking sound while accelerating. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. the check engine light illuminated at 3,300 miles. the dealer replaced the cam shaft sensor. at 6,400 miles, the ticking noise returned and the check engine and oil lights illuminated. the dealer diagnosed the vehicle as consuming a large amount of oil. the vehicle was put through an oil consumption test and failed twice. at 7,500 miles, the vehicle stalled while turning and the check engine light illuminated once more. the dealer has diagnosed the vehicle as needing a new engine and would like to install a test engine designed for this type of failure. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage is 8,600 and failure mileage was 1,800. the consumer stated the vehicle shifts very rough. updated 07/06/07. *jb
