Vehicle: 2000 infiniti i30t has a reoccurring engine code p0420 since 74,000 miles. found out recently there is a service bulletin for this problem on the internet. reference #itb00-054a. i never received any notice from infiniti corp. about this problem since the service bulletin that occurred on june 7, 2004. it is wrong for infiniti not to notify their customers about this problem. there is no drivability problem, but i will not pass california smog test if the engine come on during this time. infiniti corporation should fix this problem without charging any labor or parts. parts are @ least $800.00 without labor!!!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR
12/20/200436000207/22/2000
Driving home vehicle quit in traffic. after sitting for approximately an hour, vehicle started and we made it home. after having vehicle checked it was determined that the alternator needed to be replaced/rebuilt. diagnosis done by a local mechanic. it was rebuilt. vehicle ran well until the 28 april 2005 when the same thing occurred; this time it would not run after a boost. it was towed to the dealer, where a 'remanufactured' alternator was installed, at a cost of $850.00. the belts and a battery cable was also replaced at this visit. my concern stems from seeing there was a recall of 97/98 infinity i-30's, and so leads me to surmise that a problem may still exist with the alternators on other years of this vehicle. the dealer kept the old part.

The battery light came on while the consumer was on the way home traveling 45 mph. before the consumer could get off the highway the vehicle shut down. while waiting for the tow truck consumer was able to restart the vehicle. the consumer was notified by the dealer that the alternator was defective. *ak while driving with headlings and air conditioning on, the battery and brake warning lights came on. after coming to a stop, all of the warning lights onthe instrument panel flashed on then the vehicle completely shut down. dealer found defective alternator. *tt *jb

2000 infiniti i30 service engine soon came on. dealer diagnosed and concluded that the ignition coils went bad and need to replace all 6 of them. the car had only 31753 miles on it. considering the low mileage, it is too early for the coils to go bad. dealer said it is not covered under warranty (federal emissions warranty was still valid) and had to pay 1000 dollars for the job. *jb
