| Defect Summary | Navistar is recalling certain model year 2010 and 2011 international 4300m, 8600, lonestar and prostar brand trucks manufactured from may 6, 2009 through may 25, 2010. the fastener that clamps the pitman arm to the steering gear shaft may have been undertorqued upon assembly. an under torque condition may cause wear of the interconnecting splines of the arm and the shaft possibly allowing the pitman arm to slip over the shaft resulting in a reduction of steering control. | |||||||||||||||

| Tl-the contact owns a 2010 international prostar. the driver was driving approximately 55 mph when the vehicle began to steer towards the left. the driver began turning the steering wheel towards the right but the vehicle continued going towards the left. the brakes were applied but did not engage and the vehicle continued to the left until crashing. the police appeared on the scene and a police report was filed. the driver was injured and the contact was taken to the hospital by ambulance to treat major injuries. the vehicle was towed to a wrecking company lot but did not have the failure diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 256,700. sm. | |||
