3 months ago my fuel sender went bad on my 2002 isuzu axiom. it can not tell the correct fuel level. i went to alldata website to review if there were any recalls for this and there was one for fuel pumps (sb05-02-s002). the bulletin described how silicon-contaminated fuel in texas and isuzu was suppose to replace all fuel pumps whether they needed it or not at no charge to us. you see, the fuel sender is attached to the fuel pump assembly. according sb05-02-s002, this fuel pump problem is potentially a source of fire due to a fuel pump leak. i contacted the dealer and national isuzu headquarters and they both told me based on the vin # of my vehicle, i did not need my fuel pump replaced. i do not feel safe with this and that is why i am contacting you for help. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55mph in normal conditions, the check engine lamp illuminated. seconds later, the contact smelled smoke and felt extreme heat coming from under the dashboard. the contact immediately pulled to the side of the road and evacuated all passengers. the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames within 20 seconds and burned to the ground. the police and fire departments immediately responded to extinguish the fire and afterward provided written reports. the fire chief's written report gave a mechanical engine failure as a possible cause of the fire. no prior problems with the vehicle were reported. there was a nhtsa recall # 05v466000, concerning the fuel pump. the recall information states that gasoline contaminated with silicone affected the fuel pump with tiny pin holes and could result in a fire. the contact is located one mile from one of the selected states mentioned and had purchased gas in one of the states. the insurance company inspected the vehicle and deemed it a total loss. the manufacturer was alerted of the incident.

I bought my isuzu axiom in nov 2002. it has had several hazardous defects. 1) in may 2005, at 60,000 miles the transmission suddenly failed while driving, causing the vehicle to slow to 20-30 mph, no longer accelerating. it was brought to the dealership. the transmission fluid burnt up. after two transmission flushes the transmission still needed to be replaced. only after getting isuzu involved, did the dealership honor the warranty and replaced the transmission. three weeks later i received the vehicle back. the same day it suddenly slowed again, not accelerating past 20 mph and it slipped/spun accelerating from stop lights. it was immediately brought back to the dealership, the main oil seal was replaced. after that it worked with intermittent periods of slipping/spinning when accelerating. it progressively became slower to accelerate when passing, changing lanes. in sept. 05 the transmission went bad again, my vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating while going up a hill, causing a near accident with vehicles behind me. it was towed to the dealership, the transmission needed replaced again, for the third time! what good is isuzu axiom's 10 year/120,000 mile warranty if the transmission keeps going out suddenly as i drive it? the warranty won't prevent me from being in an accident the next time this happens. in addition it has experienced the following defects. 2) sept. 04 the timing belt cracked at 44,000 miles, needing replaced. per the schedule maintenance it should not need replaced until 100,000 miles. 3)june 04, the low fuel light came on and the gas meter dipped to empty after just filling up. the fuel pump needed replaced. 4)june 04, the check transmission light came on, it could not be duplicated at the dealer. 5)march 04 and october 04 the front wheel bearings needed repacked and now need fully replaced due to barely passing sept 05 state inspection. 6)the vehicle intermittently skids to stop when brakes are applied in the rain. *jb

 1. 8,000 miles to current brakes intermittently fail when traveling at 30+ mph. when the brakes are depressed the vehicle lunges forward. 2. passenger side seat belt intermittently only allows retraction regardless of the brakes are depressed or not. 3. 46,539 miles fuel gauge shows 1/2 tank onboard computer shows low fuel and fuel light illuminates. dealer replaced fuel pump assembly. problem corrected. 4. 57321 miles intermittent sluggish acceleration (intermittent since 20,000 miles) combined with intermittent incorrect timing shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. dealer reluctantly replaced piston seal cover under drive train warranty. 2nd opinion private mechanic verified the leaking seal. problem has worsened remains unresolved as of 10/2/04. friend purchased same make and model within 2 weeks of my purchase both from robbins isuzu, humble texas and has had the exact same problems only her braking problem resulted in an accident. isuzu dealership refuses to acknowledge any problems. *ak

While driving to work i noticed that my gas needle was low which i deemed funny because i had just fulled the suv the morning before, i then when to the station to get gas just to check and i only got $6.00 dollars in the tank and also the computer said that i was 56 miles from empty. the front end shakes at highway speeds, the air conditioner stopped working, sparks come from it when you turn it on, the blower fan just stopped working, the brakes make a loud sound upon being applied, the outside temperture indicator does not work anymore.*ak

When the vehicle was started, the gas gauge would go pass empty and caused the engine light to appear, when going over bumps the vehicle would swing out (almost lost control), when the speed goes up to 60 mph the front end vibrates, and when a right turn was made, a cracking noise was heard. the dealer could not duplicate. *mr scc
