Odi has received 76 vehicle owner complaints alleging incidents of engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2006 through 2007 jeep commander vehicles (subject vehicles).some of the complaints reported one or more incidents of engine stall with a simultaneous loss of some or all lighting systems, including headlamps.two engine stalls resulted in a vehicle crash.in its response to a request for information, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) indicated that it has not determined the cause of engine stalling in the subject vehicles and that it hasformed a multi-disciplinary task force to investigate the issue. this investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea07-007) to further assess the frequency, scope and potential safety consequences of the alleged defect.

On may 5, 2008, chrysler llc (chrysler) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning an engine calibration issue that could result in engine stall in approximately 24,461 model year (my) 2006 jeep commander vehicles equipped with the 4.7l v-8 engine and built from february 25, 2005 through january 11, 2006.according to chrysler, the powertrain control module (pcm) was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall during certain operating conditions.chrysler dealers will reprogram the pcm software in the recalled vehicles. information provided by chrysler during pe07-009 and ea07-007 indicated that a revised engine calibration was implemented in production effective january 12, 2006 for the my 2006 jeep commander vehicles equipped with 4.7l v-8 engines.odi's analysis ofconsumer complaints, field reports and other data related to field experience with engine stalling in my 2006 through 2007 jeep commander vehicles equipped with 3.7l, 4.7l and 5.7l engines identified an elevated rate of stalling incidents in the my 2006 vehicles equipped with 4.7l engines that were manufactured before the calibration change.odi interviewed over 70 consumers who reported stalling incidents in early production my 2006 4.7l vehicles.information gathered from those interviews indicated that the stalling incidents were occurring at various speeds, often occurred during turns and typically occurred more than once.the interviews did not identify any concerns with restartability. although the early my 2006 production vehicles with 4.7l engines make up only about 15 percent of all my 2006 through 2007 jeep commanders built by chrysler, they were responsible for 465 of the 854 reported stalling incidents (54%), 6 of the 12 crash incidents (50%) and the only injury claim.the stalling rate for the recalled vehicles is 1.90 percent, almost 7 times greater than the rate in the remaining population (0.28 percent).chrysler's recall covers the vehicles with the elevated stalling rate.the remaining vehicles have relatively low rates of stalling and do not exhibit any signs of aggravating factors such as problems with restart. odi also analyzed complaints alleging concerns with loss of lighting coincident to stalling incidents.this analysis identified seven stalling incidents where loss of exterior lighting was alleged.no specific cause was identified in these incidents and there was no discernible pattern regarding engine, vehicle production options, build range or failure trend. this investigation is closed with chrysler's recall.

While driving down the road, the entire cluster of instrument warning lights begins to flash intermittently, creating a distraction and safety hazard while driving. in addition, the fuel gauge drops to e, the speedometer drops to zero and then goes up and down and all gauges go up and down erratically. also, the heated seats turn off as does the fan for the heater/ac unit. verified with local mechanic that this is not related to the ignition switch and is most likely an ecm and/or pcm issue. replaced battery but problem still exists. engine malfunction indicator light comes on for several cycles, computer reboots itself and then the trouble starts again shortly after. this appears to be an ongoing issue with the 06 commander but my vin was not included in the ecm/pcm recall (08v203000) because i have the 6-cylinder rather than the 8 cylinder engine. this is a safety hazard while driving and i just feel fortunate that as of yet, my car is not stalling like so many others. however, i feel my issue is related to this same recall and want to have it on file.

I was driving along the highway, when the vehicle stalled and all of the lights came on. i pulled to the side of the road and restarted it and drove away. after taking it in i was told it was a problem with crankshaft position sensor and that it needed to be replaced. after replacing the crankshaft position sensor and driving it back up to the mountains, it happened again. same problem. i replaced the crankshaft position sensor for a second time. 6 months later a similar problem happened but instead of shutting down the car just sputtered and the engine light came on and started blinking. after taking it in the shop said that the 02 sensor needed replacing. i had passenger front o2 sensor replaced last month, and now it is happening again. the shop is now saying that the pcm is bad and that needs to be replaced. when will this end? *tr

I purchased this vehichle in aug of 2012 and have been having electrical issues that have caused my vehichle to shut of while driving. i have also had issues with starting because the electrical system is failing.i have researched this issue and there are already many complaints on this vehichle with the same issues i'm having. i am very disappointed in this vehichle after spending the money to purchase it with 44,000 miles on it and have had nothing but issues with the electrical system, dash lights, and battery.

My jeeps cuts off going about 70 mph down the highway. i have had to stafford jeep in winchester va 4 times and they can not seem to find the problem. the was a recall on the pcm module but they assure me that the recall was done correctly. now the jeep had throttle control issues. it will speed up and lose power. this has cause other issues as now my jeep is mis firing. stafford jeep wants to charge me for all of this and i believe it has something to do with the control modules. *tr

Out of the blue the whole radio/cd/navigation console went out! the radio still works, but only the preset stations and i can only control it from the steering wheel. then i noticed that the air bag light(on instrument panel) is turning on and off and beeping each time. there have also been water issues coming from the sunroof, soaking the floor boards in mainly the passenger side but sometimes also the drivers side. this only happens when the vehicle is parked. *tr

Driver side floor has had approx 1-2 inches of water after raining on multiple occasions. local jeep dealer said the sunroof drain was clogged. this has never happened while driving, only when the vehicle is parked. it's pretty pricey to have these drains unclogged and from reading all the other complaints about this same problem on edmunds, it is a consistent service that needs done. i am very frustrated because this sounds like a defect on chrysler's part, but nothing has been done about it. when this water floods my floor it stinks in the vehicle. i also notice flies and gnats. i am afraid of mold, dry rot and electrical issues. my radio is going out and i believe the water has something to do with this. i never had problems with the radio until this started. the screen is no longer clear, the gps doesn't work, the uconnect hands free doesn't work properly anymore and the radio randomly changes stations on its own. *tr

While driving at aprox 45mph, with no warning my jeep stalled out leaving me with no power anything. after 5 minutes started up with check engine light on. tried to get it to my home about 5 minutes away stalled again without warning. did manage to get it home this however is not the only time this has happened, started happening in may 2012 samething. had it towed to dealer which they charged me $234 to find nothing wrong with it and 11/2weeks with no vehicle. this is very dangerous how at any speed vehicle stalls with no warning!!!!! i should add i just had the flash recall done on the vehicle for the otc module on 4/13/12. *js

The instrument warning lights will flash on and off. this includes the speedometer and the odometer which will drop to zero. also, the hvac fan will cut out when this is happening. headlights do not flash on and off and the engine has never cut out. sometimes the warning lights will remain off along with the gauges for several seconds. this occurs randomly and occurs at all speeds. the truck starts without issue. the flashing can occur immediately or at random times while driving.

In the 5 years i have owned the 2006 jeep commander it has stalled while driving, stalled while parked. this happens at no set frequency. sometimes it happens daily, other times it will go for months and not happen. the dash lights repeatedly flash off and on. some dash lights don't work at all for months then like magic work fine for months. the vehicle sputters when accelerating all the time and at different speeds. if i am crossing or turining i need to make sure i have like 2 miles between me and oncoming traffic in case it decides to not work that time and i get stuck in the intersection. the cruise control no longer works. luckily the computer went out that controls the cruise so i can't use it. the cruise used to just speed up and slow down on its own. i will be driving along and all of a sudden without notice the car will floor itself and not stop until i put the car in neutral. regardless of what temperature i have the heater set to there is constantly extremely hot air blowing on my feet. i can not drive without shoes on or the hot air literally burns my feet. overall- there are some serious electrical and mechanical issues with the jeep commander. i googled jeep commander and there are hundreds (i am sure thousands) of similar complaints.

The interior electrical lighting sytems often goes out while driving in below freezing temperatures. this includes all speedometer, tachometer, and dash lights for all controls. this has been a problem since i purchased the vehicle new in february 2007. after five years, the led lights illuminating the switches for the fan speed, temperature control, and heated seats. i reported this under warranty but now i am told i am responsible for repair. the dealership cannot find the electrical fault. the led switch bulbs cannot simply be replaced as the entire unit for each control must be replaced. the engine was making a pinging sound and the dealership diagnosed it wrong 3 times. this should have been repaired under warranty when first reported. many months later after warrantly lapsed the dealership's corrective fix was replacing one side of the engine's hydraulic lifters. this made the problem a bit better but did not resolve it.

2006 jeep commander does not start. we have to try about 30 times sometimes to get it to start. it just makes a clicking noise. also the jeep commander will stall while driving. (very dangerous) especially with two kids. another problem is it gets stuck in low gear or 4x4 (not sure which). i have read complaint after complaint on the internet about these same problems with many many 2006 commanders. i am very displeased with how jeep has swept these problems under the carpet. yes, they have had a few recalls, but nothing to fix these very serious and very dangerous defects. please help, as we spent a good amount of money on what we thought and needed to be a reliable vehicle. it is not reliable at all.

Problems began 1 day after commander went in to dealer for the regular 3,000mile oil change, that car was returned to me after that oil change, as 'good to go'; w/in 24 hours of that oil change, the commander would not start and required a new starter (30k miles). after the starter was replaced, the commander was stalling if - in the middle of a slight incline it had to brake and then resume - at the resume it would stall. also, after starter replaced dashboard lights blinking; transmission cooler lines leaking, power steering line from pump to cooler leaking, and front and back brake rotors had to be replaced (42k miles) 60k miles, the cruise control turns on by itself and the rear park assist turns off by itself; the water leak into front passenger well. speaking with custom relations at chrysler corporate regarding cruise control, rear assist and water leak problems they told me that they were not aware of these being a problem for most commander customers; however, chrysler jeep is aware of these problems as evidenced by the technical service bulletins published on them yet chrysler jeep does not issue a recall/take fiscal responsibility for their manufacturer defects. more: chrysler jeep expects me to pay them to diagnose the problems so that then so long as i have paid a dealer to repair them they will consider (not necessarily approve; in the past they have in fact denied me reimbusement to fix these problems for which they have technical service bulletins on) refunding me total or partial cost of repairs. more: i was only informed of a safety recall regarding ebc module (brake) when i called in last week (12/2011) regarding the water leak & cruise control problem. making this more poignant, the reason for this recall - that i was not notified about when it was first issued- is a brake issue that i had detailed to chrysler jeep in 2009!

I filed a previous complaint regarding my 2006 jeep commander 5.7 l hemi regarding the engine light coming on and the hestation you get when you are driving. i was told that the pcm sensor needed replaced and it has been but the problem is still there. we have had the o2 sensor replaced twice, the gas filter replaced, transmission fluid and filter changed, my jeep has been in the shop many times for this same problem and they cannot duplicate the problem on some visits. this is a huge safety concern if my jeep were to stall from hestation this could cause a deadly accident. i have no idea where to go from here but i will keep on going until i get someone to listen and correct this problem or take these vehicles off the road.

I was driving on the freeway about to go over a bridge when the dashboard light starting blinking on and off. the car then stalled and i lost all functions of the vehical, i was lucky enough to pull over with out incident. the car then did start right back up. i have had this problem with the dashboard lights and components to blink 2 other times since (taking my kids to school this morning is the most recent time). luckily the car did not stall these other times. however, when it begins to happen i cannot start freaking out that my car is going to all of a sudden shut down.

I have a 06 jeep commander that has been completely shutting down while i'm driving. the rpms go up over 3 and 4 and the gears shifts from high to low. and also my engine light comes on and stays on.

I was pulling out of my driveway when all the instrument lights came on. i thought it had stalled! when i looked down, the ob data screen said awd system failed. i put it in park turned off the key and tried to restart it and it would not. that's when i looked up and noticed a lot of white smoke coming from the front of my car! within a second it turned to black smoke! i smelled something burning. i hurried up and got my son and i out of the jeep and backed away, and within a few seconds there was a pop and the jeep engine compartment was on fire. we called 911.

While driving, the instrument panel began flashing all the warning lights several times for a period of 5 minutes. the warning lights that stayed on afterwards: traction control and electronic stability program and bsp. this could have caused a crash because i was distracted by the malfunction.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the air conditioner, heater and interior and exterior lights would activate sporadically when engaged. the lights would flicker and the air conditioner and heat would shut off and on. when the failure would occur, the vehicle would stall as well and the only warning was that the lights would flicker. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. the current mileage was 42,000.

While driving the dash lights went out and headlights started flashing on and off. took it to dealer and they found no trouble. the vehicle keeps blowing rear tail light bulbs, and blower motor at times does not work on certain speeds. cigarette lighter/power outlets stopped working even though fuse is good. power windows intermittently stop working. the transmission went out around 62,000 miles. had dealer replace transmission and now at 102,000 miles the transmission will loose drive when shifting into 3rd under moderate acceleration. you then have to pull off the road and put the car in park, then back in drive to regain drive. transmission also surges under light throttle conditions at low speeds(10-20mph). i have contacted jeep and their response was that because of the mileage on the vehicle they could do nothing. i feel that the flashing lights and the loss of drive while in traffic are major safety issues. i have been researching this vehicle and found may other owners with the exact same problems.

Since the first few months that i owned this 2006 jeep commander it has randomly shut down while i am driving. i have noticed that it happens more often in the summer. it has been taken in and had pcm reprogramming, parts replaced, and other work. at the time we purchased it my husband was the gm at the dealership. the techs tried everything. since then the dealership has switched to another automotive group. i have contacted several jeep service departments and many say there is nothing they can do. they are aware of the problem, but have no solutions other than what has already been done. i drive on highways with my two children often and several times it has cut off when speed limits where 65+ mph. i do not want to pass this problem along to another owner. i managed service departments for years and know how to react to problems, but i am concerned that jeep has done nothing to fix this. i know of several other owners who purchased vehicles at the same time who had the same problem. many have been traded in and now new owners are having to deal with this dangerous condition.

After having problems with dashboard lights going all on and off while driving two years ago, now my transmission has failed and the computer has gone out of the car. i have had ongoing issues with the air conditioning, and have replaced the module in the air conditioning to just have the issue re-appear a year later. the cruise control has gone out. and with heavy rains, i have leaking with my sunroof.

I was getting off on an exit with a slight incline. i had my foot slightly on the break to decelerate. the car jerked and the traction control and abs lights came on. the roads were dry. there was no reason for the traction control and abs to turn on. the lights remained on. it felt as if someone put their foot on the breaks quickly. after i arrived at my location i turned the car off. when i restarted the car the lights were off. i contacted my service center. they had me bring in the car. they re-flashed to correct the codes.

A/c blower only works on high, not any other setting. i've replaced the blower motor resistor on average of 3x per year (@ $32 from dealer). this is what i've been told by auto mechanics and the chrysler dealer service dept. is wrong with the a/c system....and that it's a common problem. when the resistor is replaced, the a/c will work properly for a short period of time and then repeat the problem. obviously, there is something causing this part to short/malfunction. after researching this topic (online/internet), i've found many jeep owners have encountered the exact same problem. the problem is not the blower motor resistor, it is the guage of wiring chrysler has used to install the system. the wiring can not handle the amps running through it, and the connection/wiring actually melts. this is the case with my vehicle, the connection at the blower resistor is melted. the system has a 40amp fuse, which does not blow before the wiring melts???.....this is a fire hazard. chrysler should have done a recall on this. i've opened a case with chrysler, and so far have gotten nowhere with them.....they just want me to take vehicle into dealer so they can charge me there outrageous rates for looking at the problem, then (according to the discussion threads online) they'll suggest i replace the whole blower unit/system for about $800. the only problem is the guage of the wiring is to small for the amps running the system, and the wiring needs to be replaced. i've heard there is a replacement wiring harness available, but when i asked chrysler about this part they claimed to know nothing about it.

Our 2006 jeep commander intermittently stalls while driving. usually, the instrument panel lights go crazy, all the lights flashing on and off, and then the vehicle stalls. this happens at anytime, and has happened on the highway! this issue leaves no faults on the computer when checked by a dealer. dealer replaced the ignition lock, but this did not fix the issue. they have no more suggestions. the internet is filled with other owners of this and other jeep vehicles that have experienced the same serious issue. obviously, this could be extremely dangerous!!

I purchased the 2006 commander in june 2010. the first 6 weeks i had the vehicle i loved it. the first incident i had with the vehicle was the service park assist warning came on and stayed on for two days, then went off on its own prior to getting an appointment to have it checked. the next incident happened when i was idling in traffic at a stoplight. every indicator light on the dash came on and the vehicle started to stall but did not completely stall out. since that episode i have had issues with the driver side front window and passenger side rear window not functioning properly (at times won't roll up or down from either control). more recently i have had increasing episodes (two to three times per month) of the dash lighting up, headlights dimming and the vehicle losing power (so far always while parked or shifting from park to drive), as well as the service park assist warning and window issues. after hearing of a coworker with a 2007 commander having some of the same issues i began searching the internet and have found numerous complaints of the same issues as mine. i am afraid to drive this vehicle with my children inside in the event that it would stall out on the highway and i would not be able to control it. i spoke with the dealer that sold me the vehicle yesterday and they have agreed to look at it free of charge this morning since there is no warranty on it now, but i still am not sure i want to keep this vehicle any longer. chrysler needs to recall these vehicles and fix this issue. i used to be a die hard jeep fan...but no longer! i am surprised that i have not found any reports of death or serious injury as a result of these electrical issues with this particular model.

March of 2009 we experianced a problem with our 2006 jeep commander with the electronics in the vehicle shutting down causing the vehicle to stall. we took it into our local dealership where they informed us that the problem was with the shifter module and that it had to be replaced. well $2500 later and missing parts we requested to keep our vehicle was back in our posession with the problem still happening. not as severe as what it had been prior to sending it in, however still happening. this evening my husband was driving home from work when this happened again. only this time the abs went out and the brakes started pumping for no reason, as well as the vehicle stalling out while driving 110kmph. when home we reviewed recalls recommended for 2006 jeep commanders and there is one where it describes the symptoms our vehicle is having in quite detail. amongst investigating further it was determined that out particular vehicle was not included in the recall although experiancing the same problems.

The isssues i have had is stalling in my 2006 jeep commander. there is not any warning sign associated with this. my car has stalled before while driving on the expressway as well as while parked. there is no warning, it just stalls. while driving the car on the expressway it just cut off. luckily i was in the far left lane and was able to steer the car to the shoulder. i turned the ignition off then started to car and it drove as if nothing ever happened. it also stalls while parked with no warning. there is no apparant reason. you then have to unplug the battery for at least 24 hours then hope it starts the next day. i have had the alternator changed and this problem still happens. what i was told by a mechanic is when i unplug the battery it is resetting the electrical control panel. but this has not helped. i still have the same problem.

While driving, 06 jeep commander had smoke pouring into the inside from the gear shift, vents, etc. smelled electrical. car refused to turn off on two attempts with keys already out of the ignition. that was the first occasion for that problem. have had several times when i was driving that the car stalls, locking up the stearing wheel, etc. have taken it to the dealership for this problem and they said they fixed the recall ???? it still stalls, sometimes three times a day...which is difficult when you have several people behind you. the vehicle is at the shop now as i had to get it towed when it quit running, during the fire. i am currently searching to see if others have had this problem.

I filed a complaint about 2 weeks ago about an ongoing problem that i've been having with my 2006 jeep commander since january 2009. i am going to be killed in this vehicle which seems to have an electrical problem. the headlights flash on and off which in an age of road rage could get me killed if someone thinks i'm willfully flashing them. all the instrument panel gauges go on and off, the radio and climate control system go on and off; did i forget to say randomly. this is a dangerous situation that chrysler needs to take care of. i've taken it to the dealer but they tell me there's nothing wrong with it. in the past they charged me for the evaluation, now i refuse to keep paying them and have them say sorry can't find anything on the computer. someone will be liable for the people who will be killed or seriously injured by this defected vehicle. on 12/24/09 on my way home from work it flashed the people before me, i got concerned and switched lanes on the highway; every time i switched lanes they switched before me. i believe they thought i was purposefully flashing them. this is very frustrating. something needs to be done immediately before people are hurt. *tr

Headlights and interior lights shut off while driving at night at highway speed, but the radio remained on and the engine was also working. all the lights on the instrument panel flipped on and then off with the exception of the base esp and the traction control lights, they stayed on. power steering and power brakes were working and if it had not been dark out, could have drove home. the vehicle did come back to normal working order within a few seconds. this record of events happened 3 times within a few minutes at 10 pm and was very scary. i brought the vehicle to the jeep dealership and they replaced the power junction block. they said there were multiple codes they found in the system but the fault that leaped out to them was u0200. *tr

My 2006 jeep commander seems to have electrical or computer problems, i'm not certain which. since january 2009 i've had several instances when all the instrument panel lights, the heat, and radio flash on and off while i am driving and all the gauges fluctuate; during this time there is also a clicking sound. i've taken it back to the dealer several times and paid $100 to have their computer evaluate the problem but they found no problems. recently, on 12/11/09 when the flashing was constant for over 5 miles of driving, i brought it straight to the dealer for an immediate evaluation. i asked if others reported similar problems i was told no, so i was very surprised to see the number of individuals in your database with similar problems over the past 2 years. the service managers always want me to pay for additional evaluations but i believe this is a defect that needs to be addressed by the manufacturers. when the problem began i only had 55,250 miles on the truck. currently the problem has gotten worst because it is more frequent and last longer. the dealer has a huge turnover of service managers and mechanics so each time i have to explain in detail what the problem is because the service managers pretend i'm the only one who ever complained about such a problem. i fear that the truck will stall in traffic and kill me or an innocent driver. the problem is i have no other means of transportation and i'm still paying for this truck. what can i do about this problem without resorting to discontinue paying for the defected vehicle? the dealer/service managers report no problems including battery, alternator, and computer working properly so currently i feel stuck and afraid of the ramifications of this defected vehicle. *tr

Driving my 2006 jeep commander on 635e in dallas, tx, the car just died going 70 mph with 6 lanes of traffic, and i was in the lane next to the hov lane and it had not shoulder, just a concrete wall. rather that cross 4 lanes of heavy fast traffic with no acceleration in the car, i went into the hov lane which had less traffic and got rear ended but was not a serious wreck as it well could have been. i put my car in park and started it and took the next exit and reported the accident to the police. when i got home i looked up recalls for my jeep and found the v8 engine had a recall on the front control module since the car would stall on the highway. my car is a v6. i took it to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong. i called jeep and they said i should take it to another dealership 50 miles away to see another doctor to find the problem in the meantime i have to fix the damage from the rear end collision and thank my luck stars i am still alive to fix it. your campaign number for the recall i referred to is: 08v059000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. she stated that while driving between 60 and 75 mph the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated intermittently. she was able to shut the engine off, restart it, and continue driving normally. the dealer stated that they were not familiar with this type of failure and that there were no existing recalls. they also advised her to have the vehicle inspected; however, she chose not to since there was a fee. the computer indicated that the control module caused the failure to occur. nhtsa campaign 08v059000, electrical system is also related to the failure. the failure mileage was 80000 and current mileage was 82000.

Have a 2006 jeep commander. lights have been flickering and car has not wanted to start. found that battery was not holding charge and replaced. now we drive at speed and the engine begins to race while not increasing speed. have taken to dealer in cincinnati, northgate and they reset computer but before we could leave the bay area it started making a grinding noise and the check engine light is back on. they say the are going to have the transmission guy look at it and get back to us. i read hundreds of complaints on your site and the majority of them are describing problems that are very similar over the last 3 years. don't you have enough complaints on this that chrysler should be doing a recall? after all the government is now deeply invested in chrysler. *tr

I bought a jeep comander in may of 2008, two days later i had to have what was supposed to be a really great new car towed on a rollback to the dealer i had just gotten it from. im driving down the road and it starts making a terrible noise and then it will not turn and just dies in the middle of the road. right in the middle of an intersection with traffic coming at me. since then the same thing happened again as i was driving down the interstate with my children in the car and traffic all around.i drove it straight to the dealership, and also had them tell me it was the driver of the vehicle. i got a rental and they called the next day to say they could find anything wrong with the car. during the winter my car decided to get a mind of its own and when you would turn the heat on you had to have it on high or it wouldn't do anything, but if you drove around a curve to the right it would cut off, if you went around a curve to the left it would cut back on. a couple months later it was time to get brakes and have rotors turned. i also had the stereo worked on because i guess it took lessons from my heater, and would change stations or not turn at all .it still doesn't work right at this point i've kind of given up on it.but then the window s started not going up all the way theywould go halfway up then go back down in the door. i have just taken my car on friday to get new tires, monday for an alignment, where i was told they couldn't do one because my tierod had to much play in it and was a safety concern. my dealership no longer has their license so i had my car taken to the closest jeep place and my warranty couldn't be found and i basically stood on the street to wait for a ride as they closed for the night. but then when i got to talk to them again i needed new brakes and rotors all the way around at a grand total of 600.00 . *tr

During regular drive of the car, i experienced major electrical shut down. it does not happen very often. i noticed that is happening in summer time more often than in winter time. i noticed it for a first time 2 years ago and reported to local service dealer. they told me to keep an eye on it and to tell them if i notice any trend. except for summer/winter, i couldn't notice any other trend. last summer it was happening quite often and after bringing it to the service, they couldn't find cause of the problem. i think they performed some recall firmware update (08v-203 i think) but i still have same electrical problem. i don't have engine stall however. last night (july 3rd 2009) it happen to me for the first time during night and i just realized how serious safety issue it actually is. while driving home with my family, everything in the car (headlights, ac , stereo (except lcd display) all lights on the dashboard (except p r n d gear indication)) went off for a few seconds and came back on. it happened 15-20 times in 30 minutes time frame. at one point after ~10th interruption, check engine light came on (error code u1411). so, all lights disappeared while driving at night putting me and my family at risk of an serious accident. i don't have confidence in this car any more unless there is a permanent fix for this problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact heard a loud noise when the brake pedal was depressed, followed by no response. the contact made several attempts before the vehicle came to a complete stop. immediately, the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the speedometer and numerous instrument panel gauges stopped working. the vehicle stalled unexpectedly and the warning indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the vehicle restarted and was able to resume normal operation. the contact took the vehicle to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing, but they could not duplicate the failures. they suggested that the ignition could be the cause of the failures. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and an independent mechanic for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. the failure mileage was 30,010 and current mileage was 92,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. in may of 2006, the contact began experiencing issues with the transmission and electrical system in his vehicle. the vehicle would not change gears and the instrument panel lights were constantly illuminated. he took the vehicle to the dealer three times and they reprogrammed the computer, which allowed the vehicle to perform normally for a while. on april 25, 2008, the vehicle shut off and remained locked in third gear while driving 10 mph. the contact was able to drive the vehicle to his residence. the dealer stated that there was no recall. previously, the contact took the vehicle to a repair shop to be diagnosed and was informed that the control module failed; however, the dealer continues to state that there is no failure. the failure mileage was 18,166 and current mileage was 85,000.

Bought vehicle 3/31/06 new now has 60,000 miles. the vehicle has had numerous instances with stalling while driving. all the instrument panel lights will light up and headlights will switch on/off to high beams on their own. will lose powersteering and there seems to be a change in acceleration. on march 20th i was traveling at approx 30 miles per hour and lost power but the instrument panel lights did not go off as usual. i pulled off the road and parked vehicle. had my step-father come to assist and he stated there car didn't seem to want to go gear properly, assumed this was due to the prior electrical problems and drove commander to dealership approx. 1 mile away. was told there was a plug in the transmission leaking where the electrical wires enter, cost to repair $430. after completing those repairs was told the transmission is destroyed and needs replaced at $3500. chrysler is not offering any assistance to an obvious manufacturer issue. stated i knowingly drove a vehicle with low transmission fluid and am negligent. *tr

The problem started today out of the blue on a cold wet day. i drove home from work at 7am in the rain and parked. at 2pm i tried to start the vehicle and it wouldn't start. it would just stall. after several attempts at starting it, it would just stall. then it wouldn't start at all so i let it sit for a while. when i went to start it again, it would start but all the lights were flashing, the radio was going on and off, the windshield wipers would go and stop. i rented a code reader that read u1411, no connection to the problem so i cleared the code and it fixed the problem for about an hour. now it doesn't fix it. jeep says they don't know unless i take it in for a diagnostic. but i looked online and found lots and lots of jeep owners having the exact same complaint. all of their complaints started the same way, in the rain and without warning and they were all fixed the same way, replacing the ignition switch. it appears to me that there is a problem but jeep isn't addressing the problem. i don't think i should have to go pay them to diagnose and fix a problem that they already know about, but won't admit! *tr

December 2007 - my 06 jeep commander started with electrical issues. everytime, i would hear a click, than all the lights in my dash go off, than back on.. since then it's done this several times, along with a small puddle of water in my right passenger side. i've brought the vehicle to the dealer and they've done everything but look or fix the problem. they've replace sinoids and shifters (all under warranty) but nothing having to do with the electrical. my vehicle has never stalled, but lately this electrical issue is happening more than ever. my dealer has told me they can't do anything more and to file lemon law ~ this was checked into but because i'm over my mileage i can't really do much. the worst part about this whole mess is i bought this vehicle to feel safe, and now i feel that this is the worst car on the road. chrsyler should not be leaving there customers out to dry if this problem exists in so many of the same. take some responsibility.. we gave you our money.. give us what we paid for! *tr

Reference complaints 10244597, 10247128. today, driving in the rain, lights dimmed and car hesitated, eventually stalling while in motion. while we were at a stop, the car again stalled and took several tries to restart. i no longer drive with the children in the car, and have not since the previous incident at 61k. i have tried contacting jeep through my dealer, with no response. today i sent an email via their website, however, i am not hopeful of any response. this will be the final time i will file a complaint, as i have called the bank and told them to come and get the car. i can only hope that the person who considers purchasing my car, as i am sure another unscrupulous salesman will put the car up for sale, does his or her research and finds the complaints i have filed here and with the pa attorney general's office. *tr

Additional problems reference odi complaint #10244597. received car back from dealership ran fine for two weeks. the car is now stalling on the highway at 40 mph near our home. thank god i was able to get the car to the side of the road. then the park assist service light came on and went off again. i got the car home. my husband took it out. the transmission was slipping and not shifting into higher gear. today taking the kids to the bus it stalled again. when i was able to restart, i put my foot on the gas and the car hesitate, almost causing an accident. i have pretty much decided on voluntary repossession, as my kids are worth more than the deficient balance. *tr

This is an update of my previous post. my 2006 3.7 liter commander 4x4 has been at the dealer since monday the 7th. when i took it in it had been stalling now and then, the engine light was on and the display service park assist had came on the day before i took it in. on the way to the dealer, it shut down no breaks, steering, nothing. the dealer tested it and said it gave them a code u1400 which was the tcm module. they replaced it and told me to come and get it on june 9th. i picked it up and on the way home, going up a slight incline about a block fro the dealer, it shut down again, and started rolling backward down the hill, and all i could do was pull the emergency break and pray that it still worked, it did. after three tries, i got it started and took it back to the dealer, who put a computer on it as soon as i got there, they told me i would have to get a ride home, and the next day called and said it needed ecm module, they also told me that they contacted chrysler and they had a 1000 piece backlog on them. i asked them what i should do for transport, and they told me i should call chrysler because the car was unsafe to drive. they also told me that there had been a major recall on the 2006 4.7 liter commander for the same problem, but not the 3.7 models. the dealership has been great, but chrysler has been unreal to deal with, they simply do not care about the customer, and have been no help. i called the dealer today to let them know that chrysler told me the part would be ready for delivery on july 18th, but my guess is that if there's 1000 backordered, it will be some time before i will get mine. i guess we will see. *tr

In the fifteen months i've owned the car (purchased new from a jeep dealer) it has been to the orig. dealer as well as a different dealer multiple times for electronic related issues. early on the car experienced trouble with the right front elect. passenger window operating improperly. then a series of incidents happened where the dash panel lights would come on and the car would stall. at times there was a noise from under the car. after stopping and restarting the car would run property for a period of time. then the incidents would happen again. the most troubling incident occurred when i was stopping at red light - depresed the brake pedal at low speed.... and the car kept rolling until it impacted the car in front. minor damage to both vehicles but scary as heck. informed the orig. dealer and they could find nothing. the incidents with the lights and the noise and other spooky elect problems - such as the middle hvac unit putting out heat while the front and rear put out cold.- prompted me to find a different dealer to take the car to. they (nalley here in atlanta) did a good job and updated some softwear and changed the ignition switch. that alleviated the problems for two weeks then the new ignition switch failed. the promplty replaced that as well even though it was quite a mystery to them. since then i have had two incidents where turning on the ignition switch failed to start the car - there was no response. allowed the car to sit for a minute then it started. *tr

Three times i experienced power loss while driving my 2006 jeep commander, 4x4. the first time -- i turned the ignition to start the jeep and it didn't kick over right away, all the warning lights lit up simultaneously, then randomly and at varying lengths of time went out. the dash lights and the radio were turning on and off. weird, i shut it off and waited about 2 minutes. i started it again and everything seemed ok (except the airbag light remained on). as i was pulling out of the parking lot onto the main road, the dashboard lit up again, flashing on and off as before, and then a clunk-jerk -- no power steering, no power brakes, lights still going crazy. luckily i was able to coast into another parking lot, stop safely. i turned it off, waited 5 minutes, then it started and i made it home without incident (airbag light still lingered for a while). two and a half weeks later, as i was leaving my house (so i was going slow) the dashboard started the same flashing routine as before. i shut the jeep off immediately, waited about 2 minutes and re-started. no further problems but the airbag light lingered a few minutes as before. the third incident (october 29th), i was driving along the main road about 40 mhp on a straight smooth section when all the warning lights began flashing on/off (oh, no!). at the first opportunity i turned off the main road and kept driving slowly to my garage. i made it there without losing the steering/brakes, lights flashing the whole way. i am scared to drive it now. the dealer is unable to re-create the problem, their only solution was to call the manufacturer, who suggests that i remove the other three keys from my keyring because their weight must be causing the highly-sensitive ignition tumbler to toggle to accessory mode. uuuuugggghhhhhh. i am not comfortable with this explanation. i am still afraid to drive this vehicle. what should i do? *tr

This has happened on more then one occasion. the 1st couple of times the check engine light was one, it took 2 times there and they replaced the modular. after that that was taken care of but then while driving down the street all the instrument lights on the panel came on and all gauges went to zero. the second time this happened, i was driving to work going about 35 miles per hour, again all lights on instrument panel came on and the jeep stalled causing my wheels to lock and my steering to not work, i had to skid off the side of the road, thank goodness no one was behind me. i started my jeep a couple minutes later and the check engine light and all gauges were still at zero and frightened, i was able to drive home through the neighborhood. i took it to the dealership which was there a day because they knew i was furious at this time because i could have caused an accident causing injury to myself and other drivers, i then got it back and was driving home again thank goodness not on the freeway and it happened again. i took it back to the dealer who told me there is nothing that can be done because nothing is being detected on the chip so they can not fix it, they advised me to just drive it and keep a log of the pattern to help them determine the cause. i called the service manager and told him that i have a huge problem with them asking me to drive this for a pattern and causing a potentionally fatal accident to get a pattern which they already know had done this before, the service manger is having the service writer drive my jeep and has been so for almost a week now. i can't believe that this issue is not being taken serious, i could have caused a very very serious accident on the freeway and more so when it starts to snow. i do not feel safe in this vehicle, not only for myself buy other's on the road. this is something that needs to be taken care of now before someone loses there life. *tr

I own a 2006 jeep commander. it started stalling on me in feb or 07. since then it has stalled 20 times or more. it was at the dealers many of time with me in a rental car for periods of over 2 months at a time. they have yet to find out what the problem is with my jeep. it was labeled a lemon by chrysler but they wanted to charge me an outrageous amount for use on the car. i don't feel for safety reasons this car should even be on the road. i have told chrysler if anything happens to me or my children in the car when it stalls they are 100% liable. this car is unsafe. it will stall just driving down the road. i have had my stall with no warning on are local hwy here i90. very unsafe this auto is. i want my money back or a replacement with out all the penalties. this is just stupid i have been dealing with this since feb 07 and i am tired of it. i bought the car to drive not have it in the shop be making the payments on it and when i do have it fear for my family's and my own safety in the car. *jb

My wife's jeep completely shut down while going 45 miles an hour and she went off of the road. this happened less than a month after we took it to the jeep dealership to have fixed. they said as im sure every one who has put in an apparent useless complaint that no errors are coming up and there doesn't seem to be a problem. what bothers me the most about this is that jeep has not issued any statement after the countless complaints keep filing in. just because no error message is coming up when it is plugged in doesn't mean these hundreds of jeep commander owners are lying about what is happening. i have another appointment tomorrow. this exercise is getting old . it should not have to take a death from some one driving these vehicles to have chrysler do something about this . i have read many of these complaints that other concerned drivers have put in. apparently this site doesn't get chrslers attention . *jb

While stopped at a stop light on 4 different occasions over a period of 2 weeks, the vehicle lost total electrical power and engine shut off by it self. the 2006 jeep commander restarted immediately after putting in park and turning ignition. the jeep was brought into the jeep service center on 9-11-2007. service tech said that they had similar problem with another jeep commander in the service center and could not figure out the problem. per the service tech no error messages were reported. they called chrysler who told them to do a pcm reflash install per star. the car has stalled again since then. *jb

Since the beginning of ownership, this car has stalled many times (as well as other various and odd electrical problems.) many times i can turn the car off and on and it will restart. this does happen in parking lots and highway speeds as well. i have also lost power steering and brakes when in parking lots at a very slow acceleration speed. i have also had air bag warning lights go on and stay on then randomly shut off. the dealer has tried to help resolve but is limited by chrysler's ability to recognize that there is a problem. if there is no code in the cars computer, there is no problem and can't be duplicated. if the problem can't be duplicated, there is no repair. but it keeps happening over and over. i have filed a complaint with chrysler with no resolve. the dealership has had my car and drove it for 3 weeks to try to duplicate the problem. since it is so random and they just didn't get enough time/miles in, the problem didn't happen. it stalled again about 3 weeks after that pulling out of my driveway. there has been no repair, because chrysler says there is no problem. i have been in the middle of an intersection with a 15 year old on a permit driving with oncoming traffic. i have had this car since march 2006 and this has been occurring many times repeatedly since then. not all have been documented and because it occasionally happens on weekends or holidays, i have no ability to get it in to a dealership. in order for them to be able to read a code, i would have to leave the car in a stalled position wherever it occurred and have it towed directly to the dealer. this is highly impractical and unsafe. especially scary at high speeds on the highway. i do not want to be a casualty of chrysler's failure to recognize that there are thousands of these vehicles out there doing this exact same thing. do a google search see the #'s! something needs to be done!!! *jb

I purchased my 2006 jeep commander in oct. 2005 from mccune chrysler jeep in national city, ca. initially, i started noticing my brakes shimmying as i came to a stop. i reported to my dealership a few times but no good came out of it. then, last thursday, sept. 13, i noticed my dashboard lights (electrical system, brakes and transmission lights) flashing on and off as i accelerated from a stop and headed uphill. it felt as though the jeep wanted to stop and go at the same time. i reported it to my dealership and brought in the vehicle the next week. the dealership quoted me $190 to analyze it (since my jeep was about 8,000 miles beyond the warranty period). then, they told me that it would cost me over $400 to repair the vehicle even though they did not know what was wrong with it. i began to research the internet about recalls on this make and model and found that chrysler had issued a recall on friday, sept. 14, 2007. i printed the article and brought it to my service rep at mccune. the rep insisted that it was not my problem and that his dealership had not heard of a recall on my make and model. so, i called chrysler's customer service department in oak ridge, tn. the representatives there insisted that there was no recall. frustrated, i accepted the dealerships offer to repair my vehicle. they quoted me a $100 deductible to place the vehicle under warranty. as i drove off, the same thing happened all over again. i called the service advisor and explained what had happened. he insisted that he test drove the vehicle and the lights never came on. i didn't believe him. i feel that he mislead me and that his dealership never repaired my vehicle. i will bring my vehicle back to mccune monday morning (9/24/07) and i will see what will happen. i paid for a rental vehicle last week (over $100 and the dealership never offered to cover my expenses. i am so frustrated. *tr

I purchased my 2006 jeep commander in oct. 2005. first, my brakes would shimmy when i came to a stop. then, beginning sept. 13, i noticed my dash board lights flashing on and off as i accelerated after a stop and drove uphill. now, it doesn't matter if i am drivig the vehicle uphill or on level areas on the highways and freeways. it gets worse and worse everyday. on monday, sept. 17, i called tony mccune chrysler dodge jeep and arranged for an appointment to bring my vehicle for a check up. the dealership wanted to charge me $190 to analyze it. then, they called me in the afternoon and said it would cost me over $400 to repair the jeep eventhough they still did not know what was wrong with my vehicle. before i went in the next day, i surfed the internet and learned that chrysler was recalling my model for the conditions i explained above (malfunction of the computer system, which affects the braking system). the dealership insisted that my jeep was not part of the recall. calling chrysler in oak ridge, tn, i experienced the worst customer service from a representative who insisted there was no recall in place for my model. the dealership called me back and said that chrysler would extend my warranty (since it had already expired) if i would pay $100 deductible. ater i picked up my jeep and drive off, i noticed the same thing happening as i drove onto the freeway. i called the dealership and explained the situation. the representative (bruce) insisted that the it should have been repaired. i don't believe the dealership ever repaired my jeep. i am very concerned about the run-around i am receiving from jeep, chrysler and the local service reps. i am also gravely concerned for my family's safety in this vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. when the contact started the vehicle, the headlights and instrument panel gauges would not illuminate. he stated that the instrument panel gauges failed to work as well. when the steering wheel was turned in either direction without applying the brakes, the abs would engage and the vehicle decelerated. the contact felt the pulsating vibration through the steering wheel and heard the abs engage. the failure occurred while driving 25 mph and greater. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they were unable to duplicate the failure, however, they reset the codes in the vehicle. two weeks later, while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to a different dealer and they replaced the remote start module. the contact also stated that the check engine and four wheel drive lights would often illuminate and dim automatically. the current and failure mileages were 20,000.

 1) driving on the interstate with the cruise control on; brake was applied to disengage the cruise control. 2) headlights shut off, speedometer and tachometer and fuel gauge shut off; a moment after, the tires locked up and the vehicle spun 180 degrees, then collided with a guard rail and bounced off and returned to the interstate in oncoming traffic facing the wrong way 3) independent inspector was hired by chrysler; the report found no mechanical defect nor did it find any computer codes that would indicate a malfunction; chrysler denies there is a problem and recommended we contact our insurance company for repairs. *jb

My wife was driving at approximately at 35 mph when she made a right hand turn into a parking lot and the vehicle completely died. all power steering and brakes were lost, which nearly caused her to wreck into an on coming car. the dealership replaced an ignition switch as the only probably cause, but can not guarantee that this will not occur again. obviously this is not a fatality however this is something that could very easily lead to a serious accident. *tr

I have a 2006 jeep commander. i was driving my 7 year old son to camp. i was driving about 45 mph on a 2 lane road. suddenly and without any warning the engine, as well as all electrical items completely shut off. i also lost all assist functions. when i was applying the brakes i got the noise that usually you hear when the abs system has taken control. after pulling to the side of the road i restarted the car and the engine warning light came on. after dropping my son off i attempted to restart the car. i had no instrument panel functions (gas gauge, water temp, odometer, etc.). i will be taking the car in to the dealership on 7/5/2007 for analysis.

We own a 2006 jeep commander which was having electrical problems. all of the dashboard lights, air conditioning, interior, and exterior lighting flashed off and on like an electrical surge. this happened usually once a day. it has been to the local jeep dealership four times for the same problem. they could not replicate the problem, so they stated that they could do nothing to repair it. this was a dangerous problem because it impaired one's driving ability. they will not write on the service report that we feel it is dangerous. they said that if we felt that way, then we shouldn't drive it. the first two times it was in for the electrical malfunction, they didn't write it up on the service reports because they couldn't replicate it. after the last trip to the repair shop (it is still sitting there) they told us that they will not accept it for service again for the same problem because then it would possibly fall under the lemon law. upon research into the problem, we saw the number of other complaints and even the open engineering review required by the odi. we spoke to a representative at daimler chrysler who was going to put us in contact with a case manager. they need to repair the problem before something more serious happens. we have fortunately not been involved in an accident due to the malfunction, but others have. the field in the bottom portion of the report will only accept numbers, so i will write here that it is an ongoing problem, happening on almost a daily basis.

My wife was preparing to merge into traffic from a parking lot on a busy street in our hometown. in this particular parking lot there is a telephone pole near the egress portion of the parking lot. as she was pulling out the vehicle stalled, causing complete loss of control of steering and braking causing the vehicle to strike the telephone pole causing some damage to the jeep. we purchased this vehicle because we felt it would be safe for our family of 5, myself, my wife and my three young girls under the age of 8. i have lost all confidence in the safety of this vehicle and i refuse to put my family in jeopardy with this vehicle, this vehicle has done this many times before and the dealer can not find a fix. i have contacted an attorney and he has taken my case as a lemon law claim will be filed. this vehicle has had numerous other problems since the week we brought it home. i have always owned jeep, from cj's to cherokee and now the commander, i have always been happy with the jeep legacy but i have lost all faith in the new jeep. please help before someone gets killed in this jeep. *jb

I purchased 2006 jeep commander dec '06. had continuous issues w/the performance -service dept can't fix the problem. approx three months after purchase, i was pulling off from a parking space -car cut off completely. i assumed that i hit the gear or didn't have completely engaged. b/c a new car, i thought it was strange but not a real issue. in aug '06, taking my car in for routine service, backing up in the dealership lot & the car cut off completely. added the request to have the issue checked. i explained this wasn't the 1st time the car cut off and there must be a problem. was told that nothing found. in sept '06, i was driving to work in stop & go traffic - my car cut off completely. i was able to apply the hazard lights to warn other drivers. i was able to start the car and took it into the dealership for service. i explained that this was the 3rd time that the car completely shut off, and something needed to be done. i was told that they could not replicate the situation and was asked to pick up my car. i told the service advisor that i was not picking up my car until something was done. my car cuts off while driving! that is not safe. i can't wait until i am in a tragic accident to say see, it happened again. the service department reported that they contacted the star hotline and replaced the pcm and installed a control program. i have continued to experience stalling and hesitation while driving but the car has not completely shut off. i have no confidence in accelerating to merge into traffic, nor pass other vehicles. i feel totally vulnerable that the commander will shut off while driving. during my last scheduled maintenance 1/31/07, i informed the service advisor that i am still experiencing hesitation/stalling. they did not find anything. i have been advised to set up a time to leave my vehicle for overnight road test. *nm

Since purchasing our commander in early 2006, we have experienced no less than 12 incidents of stalling. the vehicle stalled at a complete stop, as well as while driving at approximately 50-65 mpm. we also have experienced extremely sluggish acceleration at highway speed, both situations placing us at in danger of a collision. finally, when conducting hard turns (similar to a u-turn), the engine will sputter and barely accelerate in traffic situations, several times nearly resulting in a collision. *jb

Not so much a complaint but a statement car died while driving down the road with cruise control on due to my knee striking the ignition key, turning it back to the accessory position as i moved my foot from the accelerator pedal to flat on the floor. this was simply operator error on my part. i' read the other complaints on engine dying, and almost didn't purchase this vehicle due to those, but upon further investigation on my part i felt fairly sure reported problems could be operator error rather than an actual electrical issue. this was only my opinion buy based on my actual life experience, the car died while going on the road was due to my own action. i will note that i had zero problems controlling the car after the engine shut off. i simply steered over to the shoulder, put the car in park and restarted it. i probably could have just as easily put the car in neutral and restarted it while coasting on the road. if others get to voice their complaints on this issue i feel i should be allowed this statement on that same type of event so that consumers investigating this vehicle can make more of an informed decision about purchasing one. additionally, my solution to this problem was to simply move my seat back; i am 6'3 and i was simply unnecessarily crowding myself. i will also point out that we had just purchased this car 2 days ago, so still getting use to it.*ak

This complaint is similar to odi 10178480. the odi 10181086 could also be possibly connected. the design and position of the ignition switch in 2006 jeep commander is such that a slight knee movement might turn the ignition off , resulting in lost of power and power steering. i have experienced this on three different occasions, most recent one while driving on highway i-5 in the left lane at 65 mph, with heavy traffic in the right lane. luckily enough i was able to slowly steer left onto unpaved median and stop and restart the vehicle. merging back from median into the left line was extremely dangerous. *jb

I purchased a 2006 jeep commander 2 1/2 weeks ago. i have had it into service twice for the annoying whistle that appears to be common on this vehicle, but apparently hard to fix. while i was doing some research on the internet into the whistling problem, i kept reading about another problem that some commander owners were having. when i took my vehicle to the service department, the service manager and i took it out to reproduce the whistle. i brought the other concern to his attention and he tried, and successfully, recreated the problem about 4 times. when the vehicle is running, if you accidentally but barely, tap the key the car shuts off. this requires the driver, if the vehicle is moving at the time, to put it in neutral, turn the key off and then back on. so potentially, a person could be driving on a multi-lane highway, doing 55-65 mph, and accidentally hit the key with their knee. this would shut the vehicle off, causing a loss of power steering. the driver would then, while avoiding driving into other lanes and being rear ended due to the car drastically loosing speed, have to put the car into neutral, turn the key off and then back on. i want to make sure that i make it clear, this has not happened yet to me, but the service manager was able to recreated this while we were sitting in traffic at a red light. he seemed to be quite stunned, and said he was calling jeep that day to report the problem. he also saw this as a huge safety concern. i am trying to be pro-active in this complaint, bringing the problem to others attention before an accident has to occur, perhaps with tragic results. *nm
