When going over speed bumps my vehicle stalls. this is the third time this has happened in the last 2 months. i've brought it to the dealership multiple times. each time ive been told there is no problem, or that i need spark plugs replaced, or the throttle body needs to be cleaned....nothing has helped!

My 2008 jeep grand cherokee limited has lost power on three separate occasions, each time being about a week apart. the first time i was driving along the highway at approx. 70 mph and i noticed all of my controls had gone black, i had no odometer, no radio, no a/c, my car had completely lost power. i coasted to the shoulder and was able to put the car in park and restart it. the second time was pulling out of a store parking lot, crossing traffic at about 10-15 mph. again, i lost power but was still able to come to a stop, put the car in park and restart it. after this, i brought it to the dealership but they could not replicate the problem and there were no error codes on my car. as i was leaving the dealership and stopped ata red light down the street, i again lost power. this time i was at a complete stop. i put the car in park and restarted and then brought it back to the dealership. again, they did nothing. i have called chrysler and was told that my car did not show up with any outstanding recalls, however i did see a recall on my model year for this exact problem. my car has about 22,000 miles on it and has run perfectly up until now. *tr

Total engine shutdown, usually without warning. the incident does not seem to correlate with any given speed. the shutdown has happened at 75mph on highway as well as sitting at a stop light. when engine shuts down you lose the power steering and brakes. if it were to stall while making an abrupt turn it could cause an accident. this happens multiple times per day. truck has been with the dealer now for a week and it has them baffled. the computer system is not logging any malfunction related to the stall. in order to restart the truck you need to place the transmission into park and remove the key from the ignition. the truck will start up immediately and could run fine for as far as 20 miles or as little as 20 feet. i find it rather odd that there was a recall for 1338 vehicles in early 2008 where faulty modules could lead to vehicles stalling while driving. it makes you wonder if the issue was truly contained. vehicle has ~33,000 miles on it.

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee 4x4. while traveling 55 mph the contact was attempting to make a right hand turn and the vehicle suddenly stalled, causing the contact to coast the vehicle to a stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the failure could not be reproduced. the current and failure mileages were 31900.

While sitting at a stoplight, on two (2) occasions my 2008 jeep grand cherokee 4x4 suddenly accelerated on its own while my foot was on the brake and revved up (throttle surge), then the tach went back to normal, and the engine went back to idling. took it to the dealer i bought it from, they checked the on-board computer and no incident showed; they told me they called chrysler but no one has reported this before and no technical bulletin has been issued regarding throttle surge issues. have only had the vehicle 11 months. now at times, while stopped and idling, the engine will act like it's going to cut off as the idle drops for a few seconds. dealer also did not find an issue in the computer with this problem when i took it in a second time. *tr

2008 grand cherokee 4x4 4.7l flexfuel stalling at various highway speeds. throttle lagging, harsh up/down shifting, hesitation on torque demand, fuel mileage reduced by 20%. after the first two stalling occurrences, the dealership replaced the fcm (front control module) since the serial number of the installed one-337- matched the february 2008 recall, although chrysler database vin recall search came back empty??!! the third and fourth stalling events were followed up by the replacement of the pcm (powertrain control module) since a soft fault-torque request denied was found stored within the controller. however, after six hundred miles, a fifth stalling occurred. this time a hard fault related to the map sensor (intake manifold absolute pressure) was found. the replacement was scheduled in 48 hours. there were six dealership appointments(only two documented though ??!!) and it was invariably either we have to order the part or there is nothing wrong we could point at. the almost new vehicle is not safe to be driven on public roads. yet chrysler never provided a temporary replacement until the safety hazard could be located and eliminated. after every attempt of solving the problem, the customer is sent away to try his (her) good luck with a vehicle which might be okay. i don't think this a professional approach for both chrysler and the dealership servicing the vehicle. guessing and safety does not belong within the same sentence ! *tr

2008 grand cherokee 4x4 4.7l flexfuel extremely sluggish on throttle demand (305 hp ???!!!), harsh transmission up/down shift and stalling at highway speeds (four occurrences within five weeks) . the dealership performed the february 2008 recall of the fcm (front control module) after being directed by the customer to do so since the serial # on the module matched the wrongly manufactured ones; however, the vin search within chrysler recall database returned empty. evidently, the dealership owning the new vehicle at the date of the recall never performed it (as required by law) . the incident repeated after the replacement of the fcm. the dealership retrieved an abs fault code hence decided that the pcm (powertrain control module) is defective???!!! ( seven days on back order) lifetime powertrain warranty seems to be accomplished by ignoring of the driver's safety. the software running on the pcm should never be given the choice of immediately shutting off of the engine especially when the vehicle travels at a high rate of speed. modern steering and braking systems are almost non-operational when there is no available assisting power. *tr

Sudden acceleration/ loss of brakes. vehicle accelerated to full throttle while entering from freeway onramp. the driver took foot off accelerator and vehicles accelerator pedal continued to move downward to full throttle and would not decelerate after an attempt to pump the accelerator pedal to try and get the pedal to release. the automobile was then put in neutral and the engine would not slow down in rpm's. the brakes were applied and an attempt was made to stop the vehicle and the brakes were not functioning properly with the automobile coming to a very long and slow stop white trying to maneuver the automobile to the side of the road. once the vehicle was brought to a stop the motor was still at an extreme rpm level. the motor was turned off at the ignition switch and the engine finally stopped running. after sitting at the side of the road for sometime the vehicle was restarted and driven to a safe location where the driver let the vehicle sit for an hour or two and restarted for the final drive home(about five miles). the vehicle was taken to the dealers service department the next business day. the dealer ran a scan on the vehicle and diagnosed that the event occurred as stated. the dealer consulted chrysler service center and were recommended to replace the throttle and brake modules for the sudden acceleration and braking problems. the vehicle parts are at the dealer with the vehicle. the vehicle was test driven by the dealer and the customer was told the vehicle was ready. when the customer asked if the vehicle was repaired and safe the service department representative said we installed the recommended parts by chrysler service and would not say if the vehicle was repaired properly or safe from the sudden acceleration/brake problem. the vehicle as of today 12-24-2008 remains at the dealer. *tr

Problem #1: 11/15/08, 1800-1900hr, driving 65mph interstate in maryland after heavy rain. no warning: headlights out, engine stopped, dashboard mostly dark. radio stayed on. hit 4-way flashers, drove to side of road. engine restarted easily. car had 2500 miles on odometer. purchased new 8/25/08. jeep dealer unable to find fault code or replicate problem. 2nd problem: horn only works with heavy pressure from fist. dealer has replaced horn pad twice and switch once. *tr

I was heading home 8/14/08 6pm when a torrential downpour took place. i entered flooded street, other cars were passing through. in about 8 inches of water the car stalled. when i tried to restart it started to smoke and smelled like something burning. i abandoned the car and had it towed to the dealer. the dealer said the car was totaled. the insurance company confirmed. the adjuster asked me if i had the air conditioner on and when i said yes he said that is what sucked water into the engine and caused the problem . the car was the limited 5.7 hemi engine. the auto is trail rated and has the emblem to prove it, strange for a trail rated auto to be totaled in 8 inches of water. all the time i was stuck in the flooded street other vehicles, sedans, suvs and trucks continued to go through the water without incident. the vehicle had 8000 + miles and was leased on november 26, 2007. there was water in the air filter and i assume in the engine and several modules were burnt out. the car was a total loss. *tr

Re: 2008 jeep grand cherokee overland edition purchased in sept of 07. within the first month and 4 times since i have had a loss of power to the vehicle while driving. it has been to the dealer several times for repair and correction, but the problem keeps happening. the dealer is now at a loss as to how to repair this issue. their solution seems to be that i should pull off to the side of the road when i feel the power failing, shut off the car and then restart it to reset the computer. they have told me that the issue is because the accelerator and the computer stop communicating. this is not safe and it is not right. thank you. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 75 mph the vehicle would stalls. after the vehicle shuts down the warning lights illuminated stating traction control. this failure has happen on more than one occassions but sometimes it takes a couple of minutes before restarting. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they replaced the computer previously and now they want to repair the coil system within the engine. the manufacturer was contacted and a claim was file and he was informed a representative would give him a return call. the failure mileage was 42,000....mw

 Engine dies suddenly while driving
03/13/20101
My 2008 jeep grand cherokee (5.8l) has a persistent problem where the engine will shut off unexpectedly. problem has been ongoing for 9 mounts, and 3 different dealers have been unable to determine the cause of the problem. problem occurs in all driving conditions, and is not repeatable. sometimes engine shuts off very briefly (~.25 second) and picks up with just a 'hiccough' in normal operation, sometimes engine shuts off for > 2 seconds, and i need to shift to neutral, and re-engage the key to start the engine. the problem occurs at random times (on cruise control on straight, flat highway at 65 mph, idling at stop light, accelerating into traffic, slowing for exit ramp). sometimes i will drive for hundreds of miles without an occurrence, sometimes the engine cuts out 5 times in a 5 mile drive. problem is not repeatable, and not predictable. *tr

2008 jeep grand cherokee limited 5.7l hemi 4x4. experiencing loud engine noise when first started. most noticeable when engine is cold. more pronounced on colder days than warmer days. appears to eventually subside after engine reached maximum operating temperature. noise is not engine piston slap, does nopt increase when engine revolutions are increased, rather, it appears to subside, indicating valve train noise due to hydraulic lifter not fully pumping up, resulting in valve train chatter reminiscent of mechanical lifters needing adjustment, due to cold oil (higher viscosity) or low oil pump pressure. changing to manufacturer recommended mobile1 seems to increase noise. *tr

Since turning 38,000 miles my jeep grand cherokee 4x4 limited has begun to stall with regularity. the vehicle also shifts very hard while at highway speeds. the vehicle has stalled while standing at a stop, traveling on secondary roads, and highway speeds. the dealer has changed some sensors etc without any success. even work done at an independent garage has failed to solve anything. this vehicle has become an absolute death trap. i depend on this vehicle for work and to transport my 1 year old. when the vehicle stalls no lights indicate an issue and no codes are stored. the dealer has sent me packing numerous times. they always say to come back when a light comes on. i've tried to explain that the next time may be the last time. a search online showed that my situation is far from the only one. i've had numerous jeeps over the year and never had this problem. something has got to be resolved. not only am i and my family in danger, but anyone near me while i'm on the road. who would expect the car in front of them on the highway traveling at 65 mph to just stop. please nhtsa step up and flex some muscle. *tr

2008 jeep grand cherokee diesel 4x4. power loss, hesitation, mostly happens at low speeds and gets progressively worse. the vehicle idles fine, then when you step on the accelerator to move out into traffic it sputters and doesn't proceed as expected. very serious safety issue especially since the computer sees no codes so the dealer doesn't know where to start looking. it doesn't do it all the time and it's impossible to determine when it will do it. *tr
