| In its july 29, 2011 response to odi's may 27, 2011 information request letter, chrysler provided 153 my 2007-2008 owner reports, additional to the 28 odi vehicle owner questionnaires (voqs), which related to the illumination of the air bag light (abl) due to a faulty clockspring (cs) wiring circuit.the right hand drive (rhd) vehicles, which were first produced in my 2008 and account for only 1% of vehicle production, accounted for 82 of these 181 reports (45%).the my2007 left hand drive (lhd) vehicle accounted for 61 of the remaining 92 lhd reports and exhibited a higher complaint rate than the my 2008 lhd vehicles.odi did not identify any incidents of crashes/injuries attributable to the cs circuit failure.since may 27, 2011, odi has received another 32 consumer complaints bringing the total to 213 reports at this closing.in addition, and for comparative purposes, chrysler provided another 42 owner reports it received on the my2006 and my2009-2010 wrangler vehicles; these populations showed a lower incident rate than the subject vehicles, especially in comparison to the rhd subject vehicles. chrysler's investigation showed that the higher rate of rhd wrangler cs failures were due to a more severe duty cycle for these vehicles which are primarily used by us postal workers/mail carriers delivering mail in rural regions.chrysler concluded the unique vehicle usage, much of which occurs with the driver's window open and under dusty environmental conditions, is the cause of premature cs failure.chrysler's analysis also indicated that the somewhat elevated my2007 lhd rate, which showed a declining failure trend, was the result of start-up production/assembly issues that occurred with the introduction of a new design cs.the new design cs incorporated both dual airbag inflator circuitry and a steering wheel angle sensor (for the electronic stability control system).on november 1, 2011, chrysler submitted a defect notice indicating it will conduct a recall of all my 2008-2012 rhd wrangler vehicles (11v528).the estimated 5,334 rhd wrangler vehicles include the 2,297 my 2008 rhd wrangler vehicles, which were the subject of this investigation, plus an additional 3,037 my 2009-2012 rhd wrangler vehicles that chrysler determined potentially have a similar cs concern as the my 2008 rhd vehicles.chrysler intends to replace the existing cs with a yet-to-be-produced improved cs assembly, or an improved steering housing assembly that is less susceptible to dusty environments.owner notice is scheduled to begin in november, 2011.chrysler also informed odi that it intends to initiate a consumer satisfaction campaign for my2007 lhd wrangler which will extend the cs warranty coverage for 10 years or 150,000 miles.accordingly the investigation is closed. | ||||||

| As per my ase certified mechanic has directed me. my airbag light has started turning on and off and causing the chime several times a day due to a clockspring in the steering wheel going bad. this is a known recall for previous years including the 2007 model (1yr difference). i'm afraid that in an actual crash the air bag will not deploy or that it will at any random moment. | |||

| During normal operation of my vehicle, the air bag warning light and chime came on. the warning light now comes on and chimes intermittently while driving. researching this issue on line shows that this is an issue that jeep has had in other models, but for some reason wont admit to it in this year of vehicle. *tr | |||

| Air bag light started going off, (red light illuminated and chimed), intermittently while driving 35 mph and continued to do so at all speeds - could hear clicking sound coming from steering wheel when turning. took vehicle to allen samuels dealership in houston, tx and they replaced the clock spring - (steering angle internal fault replaced steering angle sensor/ clock spring. - $286.75 part + $104.00 labor) called jeep and chrysler to see if there was a recall and they said there was not one that applied to my vin. did some research and found this: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/results.cfm?searchtype=quicksearch&rcl_id=11v528000&summary=true : chrysler issued a recall on 5,000+ right side drive models (postal service) ranging from a manufacturing date of feb. 1, 2007 to october 10, 2011 on november 2, 2011, but did not recall the part on left side models (much more common, of course). i talked to the parts department at allen samuels today (2/16/13) and they said that the same part number is used for both left and right side drive models, currently (part #5156106ac) - my guess is it was the exact same part used in both types of vehicles. sounds to me like chrysler knew they screwed up and only issued a recall on government issued vehicles so they wouldn't have to deal with the much more prevalent left side dive models and uncle sam would be taken care of. when speaking with jeep customer care i told the support representative that i had done some research and had found a recall - she told me well, you can't believe everything you read on the internet.... last time i ever buy a chrysler made vehicle again... *tr | |||

| The air bag warning light and chime come on randomly multiple times while operating the vehicle. the issue is due to a malfunctioning or defective clockspring in the steering column. this was confirmed by cutter jeep on oahu, pearl city. there has already been a recall or warranty extension on the same model jeeps but only for 2007. this same issue is occurring in the 2008 models, and so the recall needs to be extended to this model year as well. it was jan. 29, 2013 when this warning light on issue happened. why won't chrysler help with this problem as this is a safety issue, if an accident occurs, no airbag or the horn can go out! we need the extension of recall, this seems to be too common of an issue as i research! *tr | |||

| My 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon lhd indicates a fault with the airbag system. when pulling out from an intersection the airbag warning light came on with an accompanying chime. the light now flashes on and off with its chime regularly during average city driving. an existing recall and subsequent warranty extension has been granted for previous model year wranglers and rhd wranglers, the problems noted in the reports for those vehicles appear the same as the faults i am experiencing in my vehicle. i believe this fault puts my wife at risk if, in the event of a collision the airbag will not deploy because of a faulty clock spring on the steering column. *tr | |||

| Air bag light went on. dealer inspected and found faulty spring. refused to fix. wants $500 to repair. because there is no recall they will not fix it. this is a major safety issue. i know 2007 and 2007 (right handed drive) veiles are recalled for the same reason. they have to recall and fix this before someone gets killed. | |||

| On the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. | |||

| Air bag light came on, dealer told me it was the clock spring, a safety issue that alot of the 2008 jeeps have, the 2007 was issued an extended warrenty but it did not include the 2008 which it should being that alot of them are having issues,,its a safety issue that your air bags wont work cause your air bag light is on b.r. | |||

| My clockspring has gone bad on my vehicle. the airbag light keeps turning on and off constantly while driving. apparently chrysler has issued a recall for 2007 and some 2008 vehicles but i just called chrysler and they said that my vehicle was not included. | |||

| The air bag warning light comes on intermittantly and often- every couple of minutes. it's accompanied by a distracting chime. the failure appears to be caused by the clockspring. i understand that 2007 wranglers have been granted an extended warranty for this component, and i've learned that this is a common problem on 2008 and 2009 model year wrangers as well. | |||

| I was driving down the road and turned right onto another road when my airbag light illuminated. it intermittently turns off when i turn my wheel to the left about 4 inches and then if i go past that part or back toward the center. it will re appear and a chime will sound. every time i start my vehicle the air bag light turns on and chimes. i was only going about 15 mph. the clock spring is the culprit according to the dealership. when are the 2008 lhd jeep wranglers going to be included in the clock spring recall? | |||

| I was driving my 2008 jeep wrangler (4 door) estimated speed 45 mph going through an intersection and another car pulled out in front of me to turn, i had no time to brake- hit his side/back of his car and then my jeep hit the traffic light pole. (head one) (the other driver was ticketed) needless to say, traveling at 45 mph, hitting another car without braking and then hitting a pole that at least one of my airbags should have deployed- but neither one of them deployed. my face hit the steering wheel (broken nose, mild concussion) | |||

| At about 34,000 miles on our 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited, the airbag light started turning on and off with a ding, very, very frequently. we took it in to our local jeep dealer and it was diagnosed (at $75) as a clock spring failure. they wanted to charge us $450 to install a new one, but since we can't afford that right now, we haven't fixed it yet. after further research on the internet of blogs of others with the same problem, we discovered that our airbags are non-operational while the warning light is on. this seems to be a pretty rampant problem among jeep wranglers, the 2008 model especially. | |||

| Clock spring failure. airbag will not opperate without it. clock spring should be coverd under warranty for safety. | |||

| Connections within the clock spring on our jeep failed causing the air bag light to turn on and off and the warning bell go off when the wheel is turned. | |||

| I have a 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited with 48,xxx miles. my airbag light keeps flashing and dinging while driving. the jeep is no longer covered by warranty, but after research i have found the cause to be a faulty clock spring. there has been several documented cases on jk-forum.com of failed clock springs. the clock spring in the jeep wrangler unlimited is responsible for passing the signal to the airbag for deployment in the case of a accident. the jeep has never been in any kind of accident, fire or any other sort of damage. the problem started randomly on 6-22-2011. i was driving down the road and my airbag light came on with a chime, then turned off a few minutes later. my vehicle has been doing the same thing ever since. i have not repaired the jeep as of yet. | |||

| 51,000 miles on vehicle and with no event to cause it to happen, the airbag light intermittenly comes on and off. took to dealer and diagnosed as a bad clockspring. they state it is not covered by recall, warranty, or extended warranty and will cost $524 to replace. service manager tells me that if the airbag light is on and i am in a wreck, the airbag won't deploy. this is thus a huge safety issue so must be replaced. old part should be available tomorrow after they repair it. | |||
