| While driving on a curvy road, my air bag light came on. it now has been coming on intermittently since. upon investigation of other vehicle owners, the electrical connection to the steering wheel looks to be the culprit (the clock spring per jeep). *tr | |||

| Driving in beach dune area in oregon (had arrived maybe 10 minutes earlier). smelled something burning and car burned to the ground. no overheating of engine coolant but hot oil and other lights flickered before shutting engine off. got out of vehicle, looked under hood and wire harness along firewall was on fire and flames coming from that and between engine and firewall. tried to suppress fire but was unsuccessful. car a total loss - burned to the ground. *tr | |||

| On the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. *tr | |||

| My 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited began to have an electrical malfunction with 50,441 miles on it. the alarm sounded, wipers and fluid went crazy, lights flashing, power steering failed, and the car would not stop running even with the key removed. i had to disconnect the battery and tow it to dealership. after $130 they said it was a key fob battery. i reluctantly drove away certain that the issue was not a key fob issue. sure enough, the next day the same thing happened while sitting in the parking lot at work. i disconnected the battery and about an hour later reconnected and it started. i promptly drove to a more reliable dealership, who diagnosed the tipm module. $607 bucks later it is repaired. chrysler of course has done nothing but deny any issue with tipm modules, when clearly they have a widespread issue with this part (just google search it). this should be a class action case, if chrysler will not recall. *tr | |||

| My jeep wrangler unlimited x 4 dr would not start and would just click once without turning over the engine. the entire dash was bright and functioning and my battery was brand new. after a few attempts the jeep started as if it was perfectly fine and did not struggle to start neither. every few weeks to few months it will repeat the same thing over. also, a few times the dash would show that the jeep was engaged in every gear. i stepped on the brake and shifted the automatic gear from p to 1 and back to p and the dash retuned to normal. i have a strong feeling my computer or tipm / fuse box is going haywire yet the dealer finds nothing wrong. i just brought it to the dealer for a diagnostic and he found no errors. why is there no recall on this if there are so many complaints about the same issues for jeeps from many models and years?? please help! i have read on many posts that dealers have told customers that there are about 300-400 tipms are on backorder so why no recall? my warranty is still good but i'm afraid the dealer will do everything they can to avoid having to honor it as i was pretty much told they could do nothing for me. i'm still paying off the finance and it's not right that i have a lemon on my hands. the worst part about this is that i am in danger of the engine stalling while driving and now i fear my family's life/safety. no one should have to deal with such a dangerous situation. | |||

| The tipm is part of the fuse box. mine first failed while at a stop light. the symptoms of the failure in my case was horn, washers, door locks, wipers all going at the same time. afterwards the engine would stall and would not start. the engine would continue to run even after the keys was removed. the code was u0141 - lost communication with front control module. i brought the car into the dealer and they could not find a problem with their diagnostic computer. the module continued to fail and through my own research i determined that it was the tipm. when i returned to the dealer, i had to insist that they replace the tipm. they removed the tipm and cleaned the contacts but it not help. i was told the tipm was back-ordered and had to wait a month while my jeep gathered dust. after a month and a number of calls to the parts department i was told it was further back-ordered for another two weeks. at his point a searched for one on my own. i was surprised to see on the news today the chrysler has still not corrected the backorder issue. the plant that produced the tipm's was in japan and damaged during the earthquake. caused the parts backorder. i was finally able to locate a module myself by cross-referencing various versions. i am concerned that is the have not fixed this problem i may be stuck without a car again. this is unacceptable. by this time they should have retooled a new plant to provide the backordered units. since the units are not used in the newer mobile cars, i believe the chrysler is dragging their feet on this at the expense of their older customer base. this is unacceptable. by this time they should have retooled a new plant to provide the backordered units. *tr | |||

| Shortly after purchasing new in 2008 the vehicle began to intermittently not start, dealer has replaced key, battery, starter, tipm, pcm, negative cable on battery and installed heavy gauge ground cable to battery. after four years and 93000 miles the problem still exists. it appears this problem is common to 2008 wranglers and that chrysler is just throwing parts at it hoping that something will stick. this is a very serious safety issue with me as an engineering soils technician. i need to be confident that my vehicle is going to start so as not to be ran over by a large earth mover while conducting my work duties. *tr | |||

| My horn started blowing on its own with no control from the horn button. it will blow for about 30 seconds randomly then shut off. sometimes while the car is driving but mostly when the car is off with the key out of the ignition. it will also be set off sometimes by locking the car when the horn is supposed to sound. its unsafe when it goes off while im driving and also that i can not honk it while driving in the event of someone trying to turn or merge into me. this seems to be an issue with the clock spring inside the steering wheel. *tr | |||

| While driving, lights came on, flashers came on, wipers came on and horn blaring. was told that it was the tipm (totally integrated power module). checked with dealer, $260 for part, $180 for labor but there are almost 300 on backorder and no estimate time to get the part in (part #rlb92236ai). why is this not a recall??? i even felt a loss of power steering during this event. are we just suppose to just sit around for 3-6 months to get the part? | |||

| 2008 jeep wrangler sahara with automatic transmission will intermittently not start unless i shift car into neutral or shift to neutral and back into park or continue to turn key in ignition several times. i have found countless similar issues on jeep forums with same complaint. my local jeep dealership cannot resolve problem after several attempts. issue occurs up to several times a day now. dealer will not do anything to resolve issue. | |||

| Car will not start successfully due to faulty electrical grounds not present. when car is in park at random times the car will not start. however, if you put the car in neutral gear will start successfully. i have had this problem for 3 years now and have spent money replacing the battery, starter. these repairs did not and will not resolve this problem. based on my research and other jeep owners the work around is to start the car in neutral when this happens or add ground wires from the battery to the engine block and from the transmission to resolve. this should be a recall from the manufacture and not a out of pocket expense to the owners. | |||

| About 18 months ago was 1st incident - inserted key, motor clicked but would not turn over, 2nd try worked. this same thing would happen every couple months or so then started taking 3-4 trys before turning over. in last 2 weeks it was been more frequent 2-3 times per week. today it was at least 10 times - finally i shifted to neutral and back into park then it turned over. i've googled to see if others experiencing same, seems it's a common prblem. some say it's a problem with shifter not being all the way in park, others say it's by a ground offset that causes the pcm to turn off the starter relay control circuit do to the double start override feature or a trs input state not valid. if the concern is gone, then add a 8 gauge or larger wire between engine and battery negative, from body to engine, and engine to trans bell housing to tie the grounds together. it is recommend to check the existing grounds and cables on the engine and for the pcm. if there is a bolt or stud, remove it and check to make sure they are clean and corrosion/rust free. clean the effected areas and the threads if needed. check the trs connector for signs of moisture or corrosion and clean connections. this really needs to be looked into! | |||

| The security alarm system and the ignition are tied together in the remote. if the battery in the remote goes dead (how do we know it is the battery and not something in the car), then i can gain access using the key. however, i can't start the car bacause the alarm is still set and activated (very loud). i can't disarm the security system with the ignition locked out because the battery is dead in the remote. my inquiry to jeep customer service resulted in a suggestion to see if the dealer could help. i consider this to be unsafe as there is no information on how to override the linking of the two systems in an emergency situation. help! | |||

| My 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited began to have starting problems. at first it was very intermittent and i assumed it was due to a worn battery so i replaced the battery with a new one and the problem was resolved for about 4 days. again, the vehicle would not start without repetitive turning on and off of the ignition until it would finally start. this problem occurred every few days. finally on the morning of 8-23-2010 the vehicle would not start no matter how many times the key was turned. after about 50 attempts it finally turned over and i drove it directly to my local jeep dealer to have the problem investigated. that afternoon i received a call telling me that the problem was common amongst 2007 and 2008 wranglers. the technician said that there is a design defect which causes a poor grounding between the battery and the starter. he said that they had been installing a new grounding strap between the battery and the starter and that it was $177.00 and not covered by warranty even though it is a known design defect. upon getting my jeep back from the shop i looked under the hood to see this $177.00 grounding cable and it is simply a $10 battery cable attached to the negative post on the battery and run over the top of the engine, down along the firewall, and attached somewhere on the back side of the engine. really, it is ridiculous that jeep has a poor design and then charges owners to repair it. from what the dealer technician told me this is not an uncommon problem. | |||

| I was driving around for about an hour on a snowy day. i had the transmission in 4x4 for most of the drive. i parked my jeep in a parking lot and returned about an 45 min later and found firefighters putting out a fire in the engine compartment. the fire chief stated that the fire started near the rear of the engine close to the firewall and that it was an electrical fire. i also have pictures available of the vehicle after the fire you may contact me. *tr | |||

| 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited with 2200 miles, purchased new. without warning, it would not start after stopping to get gas. when the key was turned, warning lights on the dash would come on, but nothing else would work. i remembered reading a thread on www.jeepforum.com about someone having a similar problem with a 2007 wrangler, so i ran home to read what happened with his jeep. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=401047 several people have had the same problem, and one person said that he solved the problem by pulling and replacing fuse m13 to reset the sentry key system. i tried this, and it worked. the jeep runs fine, again. however, now i am afraid that it could happen again at any time. *tr | |||

| I have purchased a brand new 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited x. after 500 miles, the electronic throttle control light started flashing and the vehicle stalled. fortunately, we were able to pull over and turn the car off. after consulting the owner's manual, we followed the troubleshooting instructions and the jeep started up fine. we drove approx 10 miles before the same problem occurred. we contacted the jeep service department, and they said that they had never heard of this. i find this to be a serious problem considering the different conditions in which this problem could occur. *tr | |||
