| Normal driving in summer when my 1999 land rover discovery ii's abs and traction control warning lights illuminated and stayed on. two days later those lights were joined by the hill decent warning light as well. i took it to my local mechanic who did not have the proper tool to diagnose the problem - brake system was bled but the lights still remain. i have an appointment w/the dealer next month but until then i have no use of the abs system which controls several functions on the vehicle. i have had the abs recall work performed on my land rover during the summer of 1993, i don't know if this is related to that recall or not. | |||

| Under normal driving conditions all three lights (traction control, abs, downhill) lights up. it happens even with suvs with very low miles. bleeding the brakes and cleaning the connector or replacing the sensors doesn't make any difference. there is fault in the abs modulator design and there should be recall on this item. | |||

| I have a 1999 discovery ii. the abs warning lights on the dash have always been on; nicknamed as you might already know the three amigos by thousands of land rover owners. the three amigos refers to the three warning lights on dashboard: abs, tc-traction control, downhill descent. i was told by the local dealer in encino, ca it was the abs modulator. they didn't put it on paper, but they said verbally if you don't get the abs modulator replaced, you will have brake failure. yet, land rover won't recall it. tens of thousands of people have complained about the three amigos, caused by the abs modulator. this is not an isolated case. next time you drive by a 1999 land rover, look on their dashboard, and you will see 3 warning lights on. land rover, needs to recall this, and replace the abs modulator. *tr | |||

| I recently bought a land rover discovery 2 (1999 model - 75,000 mi.). my abs brake light, hill decent light, and traction control lights keep coming on intermittently. i have read hundreds of complaints on this issue online. apparently the 3 items (abs, hill decent, and traction control) are all interconnected items - generally called three amigo problem online. the major concern is that the abs does not work and the brake pedal will sometimes go to the floor, brakes shutter and on occasion barely engage at all. i have almost wrecked the vehicle on a couple of occasions. i have no choice but to drive my car. i can't afford the $3500 the land rover dealer wants to fix this design flaw. i can't get rid of the vehicle because nobody wants to buy or trade for a car with all these warning lights on. again, if you look online you will see that this is a land rover design flaw and that almost every one of theses vehicles is affected. land rover claims it is from abuse or lack of maintaining this wearable item. if this was really the case, would thousands of people, with mileage ranging from new to hundreds of thousands of miles, have the same problem? *tr | |||

| In nov of 2007, brakes failed at slow speeds causing a low speed crash, still expensive damage. abs and tc lights came on. fixed was told that it was failure of brake booster. less than three thousand miles later happened again and now abs, tc and downhill warning light is on. is so common that it has a nickname. the three amigos you can search three amigo's + landrover on google and find hundreds of people who have had the same issue. when this happens abs is not functioning and stopping is not normal. this is a huge concern and i believe is connected to the 2 brake recalls already. this needs be recalled and creates un-safe driving. *tr | |||

| 1999 land rover discovery series ii the abs modulator unit on these vehicles needs to be recalled. the vehicle can suddenly lose its abs capability as well traction control. this has been a well documented fault in these vehicles. please issue a recall so customer's can feel assured. *jb | |||

| The vehicle has been driven daily back and forth to work with no major incident but the stopping distance has seemed to increase abs, traction control and hill descent lights come on and turn off intermittently causing the abs and traction control systems to work only when they want to the brakes are in good condition with more than half pad thickness. *jb | |||

| Dt*: the contact stated while driving 70 mph, the brake pedal was applied, but the vehicle did not slow down. there was a beeping noise and the abs light illuminated. the vehicle hit a pole and rolled over 5 times. the driver side front made impact with the pole, but the airbags did not deploy. the seatbelt was worn, but the contact sustained a fractured shoulder, hip, pelvis and 3 ribs. there was a police report taken at the scene. the insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. there is a nhtsa recall, # 02v022000, regarding the antilock brakes. the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin. | |||

| Abs failure almost caused the vehicle to wreck, several times. failure has occurred on several occasions, once in the last 4 months ($800) and now again, i have spent $$ to fix the hdc, tc, abs lights that keep coming on and causing the abs system to stop working. the abs modulator on 99 lr disco ii's i found out is defective, later models have shuttle valves that do not stick. lr will not replace it, and the part is $1,800. i'm tired of throwing money at a truck we spent over $50k to purchase, and cannot use! *nm | |||

| The abs/hdc/tc lights came on in my 1999 land rover discovery ii. the abs functions are inoperative and sometimes while braking, the brake pedal while being pushed goes almost to the floor and the car will eventually stop. this is a major problem i hear that keep arising on these land rovers. i belong to a forum and have already read at least 50 people that have this problem. this site is www.discoweb.org. also, this problem seems to be on just about every other land rover forum out there. *nm | |||

| Dt: 1999 land rover discovery series 2. the consumer stated that the wheel speed sensor for the abs unit showed a default which disabled the abs. the consumer took the vehicle to dealership, and they would not use the original parts to replace the wheel speed sensor. they have manufactured three different parts. this only happened on the passenger's side front wheel speed sensor. this has been fixed three times. the manufacturer stated that the problem was not a defect in manufacturing. this problem had been occurring for six months to a year, the consumer was not sure of the date. *ak (11/17/05) *sc | |||

| Beginning at 50,100 miles, abs, hill descent and traction control warnings went off. vehicle was stopped in regular traffic, no unusual weather or driving conditions. dealer replaced 3 abs sensors and reset ecu codes. 200 yards after leaving shop, warning lights and chimes returned. dealer attempted remedial work - error indicated stuck valve in abs pump - to no avail. codes were re-set, two days later turning left, warnings and chimes returned. land rover indicated that abs pump needs replacing is the only remedy (parts ~$2,000). web search indicated that this is a very common issue with 99 discovery owners. original recall work was done years ago to strengthen abs housing. should abs fail at only 50,000 miles? been driving without abs since fourth time. *jb | |||
