Defect SummaryVehicle description: sport utility vehicles equipped with active cornering enhancement (ace). the high-pressure hydraulic pipe that runs from the ace pump to the ace valve block could fracture at its union with the pump.
Consequence SummaryThis will result in a loss of hydraulic fluid. a low fluid level can subsequently result in system pump failure which will throw off the auxiliary drive belt, resulting in a loss of engine auxiliary functions (power steering assist, water pump, alternator, and air conditioning). in extreme circumstances, there is a possibility that the hydraulic fluid could ignite, resulting in an engine compartment fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install new hydraulic tubing.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 land rover discovery ii. while driving less than 50 mph, the vehicle began making grinding noises during acceleration. while attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle made a loud noise and drove as if something dropped in the vehicle. she managed to pull off the road and turned off the vehicle. she removed the key from the ignition, but the vehicle continued to move. the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle stopped; however, it began moving again once she released her foot from the brake pedal. the emergency brake was applied and the vehicle stopped. the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but it would not move. she placed the vehicle into drive and reverse, but the vehicle still would not move. the vehicle was waiting to be repaired. the failure and current mileages were less than 115,000. updated 12/02/08. *lj also the head gasket was cracked. updated 12/03/08. *jb the transmission failed due to front driveshaft u-joint failure. the driveshaft came apart and because it had nothing to restrain it, it bust a hole in the transmission. updated 01/15/09. *jb

Purchased vehicle in july it has been looked at and repaired 8 times. twice to the dealer, the second time they told me it had a cracked engine block and would cost 10,000 to replace the engine(that's what i paid for the car). the first time it was there for an inspection they told me in 2002 they replaced the radiator and 2005 it was there for overheating issues. the coolant fluid would not stay in and kept leaking. it constantly overheated and when i drove it off the lot, before i even got home the check engine light came on. it's being held at a repair shop that the dealer took it to because i can't afford to pay them to fix what they say is wrong with it and i thought the dealer was going to fix it. i myself have spent over 1,000 on it in repairs and have been riding the bus for 3 weeks now. *tr

I have a 2000 land rover discovery, which i love and despite that my vehicle has been in the shop many times, (almost every few months) i still love my truck, so i bought my husband one also, he has a 2001 land rover, but just recently i had to have my vehicle towed to the dealership. and i was told my engine sized and i have to replace the heads or the complete engine, this was all caused from a coolant leak in my throttle body, and the vehicle never gave a warning that my engine was running to hot or to cold, that is why there is a gage on the dash to provide this information. and now my husband has a 2001 land rover discovery and he is have the same problems, vehicle only has 79,000 miles on it . and no-one at land rover will help. i am so very upset. *jb

This vehicle has caused us a lot of inconvenience. the recent accidents (within two weeks of each other) have also caused us to lose confidence in the vehicle, let along the financial losses. we are afraid of driving the vehicle. the manufacturer and the dealer refused to acknowledge the seriousness of the problem simply because there was no injury. twice the rear suspension failed to work, causing the rear side of the vehicle to sink dangerously low. i almost lost my life while driving at approximately 40 mph one sunday morning because the vehicle lost total control: steering wheel froze and the brake failed to work. one week after the vehicle was released from the dealer, the vehicle died in the middle of high way, causing major triffic jam.
