| Turning the steering wheel became hard with uneven catches (not smooth motion) when turning left or right and also turning the steering wheel back to center. steering linkage from steering column to the steering box appears to be binding up. this makes turning the steering wheel sluggish and jerky. power steering fluid and belts were ok. | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2004 mercury grand marquis. when backing up at 10 mph, the contact noticed that the steering was very stiff and difficult to maneuver. the contact was able to drive the vehicle to his destination, but the failure continued. when he reached his destination, the contact noticed that the power steering fluid was low. he refilled the power steering fluid and the failure improved. one month later, the contact noticed that the steering became stiff and difficult to maneuver again. he called the manufacturer and was informed to have the vehicle inspected by the dealer. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but when he was informed of a fee to flush out the power steering fluid due to possible dirt build-up, the contact refused to have the vehicle repaired. he feels that he should not have to pay and the dealer or manufacturer should cover the expenses. the failure mileage was 19,970 and current mileage was 20,200. updated 04/17/09. *lj the consumer was informed the problem was due to wear and tear. updated 04/21/09 | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2004 mercury grand marquis. while driving 5 mph, the steering wheel became extremely hard to turn. the contact checked the power steering fluid, and the fluid was at the proper level. a mechanic power flushed the power steering fluid; however, the problem continued to occur. as of july 24, 20007, the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 18,500 and the current mileage was 18,900. updated 0201/08. *lj the power steering pump was replaced with a re-built pump. updated | |||
