| We had a small explosion in fuel injection area that shredded the air intake manifold. my wife was attempting to start the car at the time. there were no injuries and no visible fire damage, but it was very loud. the dealer was nice enough to give us a loaner for a week while they repaired the damage. we hope it doesn't happen again, but thought it was worth reporting in case other sables are having explosions.enough to give us a loaner and .*ak | |||

| Well this is really not a defect just very bad design,my 2000 mercury sable has no shield of any kind over,on or around the fuel tank that hangs a foot or less off of the highway.i was driving my car down the road and never heard or saw anything on the road,but evidentally ran over something small and it ruptured the fuel tank on the car and i lost all of the gas while i was driving down the road,now that is a big hazard if i would have ran over a lit cigarette.....boom. they need to design a cover or shield of some sort to prevent a possible bad accident. | |||
