Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles. corrosion of the air bag inflator's internal wiring, which can occur over time, could cause the inadvertent deployment of the driver's air bag. this deployment could occur during vehicle start-up, while the vehicle is parked or idling, or while in operation.
Consequence SummaryIf the consumer is too close to an inflating air bag, serious injuries could occur.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the inflators on these air bags.

 While attempting to miss another car the airbag on the drivers side deployed obstructing the drivers vision and the vehicle hit a guardrail, the driver sustained some injuries, the consumer is requesting reimbursement for deductible. nlm

 Consumer received a recall 00v171000 notice for air bag deployment. dealership was supposedto replace inflator in air bags. consumer claimed that no parts were replaced in vehicle, and she was charged for diagnostic of vehicle. she has recently received another letter regarding air bag inadvertently deploying. please provide any additional information/attachments. *ak

 Airbag recall 00v171000/ manufacturer's recall 00058. part has been on order for 6 months. horn on vehicle doesn't work, and dealer will not work on it because airbag can deploy if tampered with. consumer is in a difficult situation, and has avoided 2 accidents since this problem. dealer and manufacturer have been rude to consumer, and are not providing any assistance. *ak
 Landmark oldsmobile dlr in tuscaloose ,al tele#205-752-8113 has refused to perform recall 00v171000/ air bag repairs unitl febuaury. consumer called oldsmobile manufacturer ,who called dealer to let them know parts were availble, and recall could be done. but dealer still refused to do it. in meantime, consumer was driving an unsafe vehicle. *ak
 Consumer received recall #00v171000 ,and was very upset that dealer would not replace airbag inflator with a new one that was available in inventory . dealer claimed that they would only replace it if the airbag light stayed on. consumer felt it should be replaced due to the age and miles on vehicle.*ak

 Tl* the contact owns a 1995 oldsmobile cutlass supreme. the contact stated that while sitting at a traffic stop, another vehicle crashed into the contact. the air bags did not deploy and the vehicle was destroyed. the contact suffered injuries to the head and was currently hospitalized. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the non-deployment of the air bags and the manufacturer stated that there was nothing they could do to assist. the failure mileage was 168,000. the vin was not available.

 Consumer states while driving 70 mph, the driver's side tire experienced a blow which caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle. the vehicle rolled over multiple times as it traveled down a steep rock and shrub covered embankment. the vehicle then collided with a large boulder where it came to rest on its roof. (arthur blankeman on behalf of the driver terry geller) ( tire make/model, spectrum starfire, size 215/65 r16) also the air bags did not deploy.*jb

 Consumer received recall letter 00v171000 in dec 2000. after numerous calls to dealer and manufacturer he was told parts were not available yet. on bebruary 15, 2001 consumer's son had an accident. airbags deployed, stunned the driver, and caused vehicle to veer off the road and hit a tree. there were no brake marks on pavement. driver was killed instantly, passenger died 2 days later. reported by sandy clutter. *ak
 The consumer is unhappy with the number of recalls that have been made on the vehicle especially the one involving the frontal air bag (00v-171). nlm
 As a result of air bags deploying after accident dust from air bags made sores inside. please provide further information.*ak
