| Tl-the contact owns a 1997 pontiac grand prix. while the vehicle was parked the contact turned on the windshield wipers and noticed that the driver's side wiper does not park and the passenger side wiper does not work. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure the dealer advised her that the motor crank needed replacing. the contact referenced recall nhtsa campaign id number: 99v348000, visibility:windshield wiper/washer:linkages and was advised her vehicle was not part of the recall. the failure had been ongoing since november 2010. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileage was unknown. vwb | |||

| My vehicle began to experience electrical outages a month ago which included the headlights, blower motor, and gas sensor. my headlights would shutoff by themselves as would my blower motor, periodically. i noticed that it corresponded to what level my blower was put on. level 5 would keep the system on but levels 1-4 would promote the outages. i have had the blower motor and blower switch repaired on my car not more than a year ago but yet i am experiencing this problem. i have read many other blogs where people have posted problems with their pontiac which are identical to mine. i should note that this problem has gotten progressively worse over the past month. *tr | |||

| Problems with power steering pump, alternator, rack and pinion, power windows, and head gaskets. *mr the power steering pump had suddenly gone out in traffic, the vehicle stopped abruptly in the middle of traffic(the alternator was replaced), the consumer discovered that the windshield wipers were inoperative upon start due to the failure of the wiper linkage under the cowl, the steering skipped as the consumer made right hand turns(the rack and pinion was replaced along with the power steering pump), the headlight lens had fallen off, the ceramic headgasket had to be replaced, the was a hesitation and alternator had to be replaced for a second time, the air bag warning light had come on due to a short in the wiring harness, the transmission grabbed along with hesitation(a tune up was performed and work was done to the transmission), the vehicle couldn't be taken out of the park position(the shifter was replaced), the power window(s) failed, the tire pressure light had illuminated, and the windshield wiper pump leaked and would not hold fluid. *scc *cb | |||

| Recall 99v348000 repairs on windshield wipers were done in july of 2000, vehicle has been taken back to dealer numerous times. windshield wipers stopped working intermittently.*ak map lamp assembly, door lights, rear door lens, gasket lamp and headlamp assembly were all replaced, abs light illuminated, dealer adjusted brake light switch. both outer tie rods were replaced. windshield cowl panel leaked and was replaced. steering column was replaced. serpentine belt has been replaced 3 times, valve cover gasket has been replaced 2 times, vehicle has experienced 3 oil leaks, oil pan and water pump were replaced, a belt snapped and has not yet been repaired. alternator has been replaced 3 times. the supercharger gasket was replaced. the automatic shift mechanism was replaced. the radio skips and the radio module to the steering column broke. 2 front wheel speed sensor jumper wiring was replaced. *slc | |||

| Steering - rack & pinion failed while making a left turn - it was very hard to turn the wheel so that we could clear the intersection. it was also difficult to park the vehicle. steering to the right was normal. replaced rack & pinion $780.54. headlights: moisture buildup in front headlamps. dealer replaced seals 1/98 under warranty. another moisture problem developed 3/99 -dealer replace both headlamps. air conditioner: system failed on7/01 - unable to adjust air flow and air could barely be felt coming from the vents. dealer found that vac line was split at pump - $42.23 to repair. air system failed again 6/99 - loose vacuum hose repaired $21.59. air bag indicator comes on and goes off at random. dealer ran a diagnostic and found an error code, which they cleared, but no problem - issue unresolved. rear power windows failed - dealer replace regulator on both rear windows - covered under warranty. alternator failed 10/01 - replaced $314.54 | |||

| I purchased my car in feb of 2000. it only has aprrox 43000 miles and i have had numerous trips to the dealer and other mechanics. in june of 2000 i had to take the car in because the headlight covers fell off. i had noticed condensation when i purchased the car and was told by the salesman that this was normal. luckily i found the covers and did not have to replace them. in sept of 2000 i had to replace the alternator when it failed while i was going to work. then in dec of 2000 i took my car to have the tires rotated and the mechanic noticed that the antifreeze in the radiator was just about completely solidified. i had to pay for radiator flushes and was told by the dealer that it was normal wear and tear. they also noticed that one of the main engine belts was needed to be replaced and i have replaced it. now it is march of 2001 and my car is now again at the dealership with antifreeze leaking from the water pump and an airbag light that will not go off. i have also noticed on numerous occasions that i will get in the car and the windows will not go down. i know that cars need repairs but i feel that i am definetly having lots of problems when the mileage on the car is not excessive.the owner of the dealership told my husband that he thought we would continue to have problems with the car and that if he were in our shoes, he would trade the car.*ak | |||

| The car was taken in for a defective alternater and was replaced. the service tech noticed the air bag light on and asked if i had seen it on. i said yes it had been on before and gone off from time to time. he then said it was a problem in the wiring harness that they had repaired on other grand prixs and it would cost around $200.00 to fix it. he also said with the airbag light on the system would not deploy in the event of a accident. but my question was why should i pay for fixing the problem that they designed. there is a sbn # 98839010 on record seq 228, dated 9806 nhtsa sb602269 for this same problem. what recourse do i have? thank you | |||

| When this car was purchased, it had 30,000 miles on it, it now has 58,000 miles, this car has been in the shop every month or every two months, i have tried everything in my power to correct this problem with the dealership, they in no way want to help me, i have taken the car up there numerous times for the same things until they finally found a problem with my electrical components, they have replaced all of the wheel bearing on this car, the wheel sensors, block assembly, fuel sending unit, power steering pressure hose, body control module, i've even replaced the battery, alternator, water pump, tentionser, they even attempted to fix the interior, which was not torn due to abuse, rotors, they found a shortage underhood, and they replaced the underhood electrical center, wheel bearing assembly, tie rod ends, wheel speed sensor....after all of these problems that i have had with this car, i have had to come up with money to repair this car, and they finally agreed to help me into another car, but my car is valued at $14,995 and they only want to give me $9,000 for my car when they know that i owe $14,300, these problems with this car has caused me much hardship and i'm trying to save my credit, this is an attempt to get some help, if you could please lead me in the correct direction will greatly appreciate it. | |||

| Positive battery terminal has failed 3 times on my 1997 pontiac grand prix. the first time was still under warranty in 1999. the dealer replaced with another delco battery. the second time was june, 2004, delco would not replace the battery under warranty so i replaced with wal*mart everstart battery. then, in august, 2005, the battery positive terminal broke again. this time, battery acid destroyed a vacuum that controls the inside heater vents rendering hvac adjustments inoperative. i have read other accounts of this being some type of defect in the battery cable. i have asked gm and my gm dealer and have repeatedly been told there is nothing wrong with the battery cable. gm claims no awareness of this being an issue. *nm | |||

| I was backing out of parking space and went to straighten my wheels back up only to here a pop like something was broke and the wheel was real hard to turn. i turned the wheel back the other way and it became easy to turn. the steering wheel was hard to turn sometimes then easy. the steering wheel was also about 10-15 degrees of centered. i went to three shops and none were able to tell me what was wrong. my steering rack and pinion went completely out and i had to have it towed to the dealer. cost $1304. to have mine replaced. luckily i was turning into my driveway when it went out. positive battery post broke completely off while testing battery. some acid leaked in battery bay. | |||

| There is a service bulletin on the spark plug wire failure for the 3.8 l engine (99057 - firebird) it cost me $183 dollars to have them replaced. pontiac told me the factory determines the cars the bulletin aplies to, doesn't seem fair to me. we've had a problem with our air conditiioner cutting off since the car was new. they say they can't replicate the problem. bulletin says they have this problem on other cars with the same engine(63-83-15 - bonneville - 3.8 l) eventially i guess it will be out of warrenty and i'll have to pay for that also. *ak | |||

| First my key would not release out of the ignition. i have to have something stuck up in the release button thingy to get it to release the key. now the shifter will not move unless you depress the shift lock release button. thank god i knew about the button because i would have been stuck over 100 miles away from home without any help in site. i have had other problems with this car but fortunately for me that was while the car was still under warranty. i'm sure my 1997 pontiac grand prix se isn't the only one with this problem. | |||

| I own a 1997 pontiac grand prix gtp. this car was in perfect condition under the hood and throughout the vehicle. after driving approx. 1 1/2 hours the car was shut off..., security system set and after approx. the car alarm went off only to find my car in flames! this had started under the hood. the car is a total loss. it was lost in a matter of 5 minutes. air bag from passenger side went off sending it thru the back window and shattering it. gm had an investigator look at my vehicle to determin if it was the fault of a gm. of course gm said that there was not enough proof that it was a faulty part or anything else. i had this vehicle serviced and inspected less than 2 weeks prior to loss and nothing was visibly wrong. i can't understant what caused this nor am i satisified with was i was told by gm. i would like to know if there as been anyother case like this. please any information you can provide me with would be very helpful.*ak | |||

| 06/10/02 pontiac grand prix vin# 1g2wp12k6vf352423 was taken to mitchell pontiac in san angelo, texas re# action # pe01038, recall# 02v286 & gm recall # 02049. this recall involves the total replacement of the rack and pinion steering assembly. mitchell pontiac replaced a bearing and returned the vehicle. subsequently, loud knocks from the affected area, total loss of head lights, air conditioning failure and other problems arose. the vehicle was then returned on 09/08/03 for repair of these problems. mitchell pontiac refused to rectify the situation. gm was contacted and stated that there was nothing that they could do.*ak | |||

| Intermittently, since 2000, automobile headlights and blower have shut of for a period of 5-10 seconds. this summer, when conditions are extremely hot, the headlight function, and the ac will not work unless i set the fan speed to 5, and the a/c selector to maximum when temperatures cool, functions return to normal.*ak | |||

| Consumer has multiple problems with the vehicle. no coverage from warranty over 36,000 miles. consumer chose to take vehicle to a mechanic. there were problems with the sensors. abs light stayed on. also, changed the brakes with hopes it would rectify the problem. mechanic found that there was a problem with the abs power pack(the brain of the system) in the left rear wheel. the dash was removed & the electrical wiring was burnt out. there was a faulty relay system that wiped out the wiring module. the consumer has to wait becuase ther is a shortage of gm parts. *ak | |||

| When this car was purchased, it had 30,000 miles on it, it now has 58,000 miles, this car has been in the shop every month or every two months, i have tried everything in my power to correct this problem with the dealership, they in no way want to help me, i have taken the car up there numerous times for the same things until they finally found a problem with my electrical components, they have replaced all of the wheel bearing on this car, the wheel sensors, block assembly, fuel sending unit, power steering pressure hose, body control module, i've even replaced the battery, alternator, water pump, tentionser, they even attempted to fix the interior, which was not torn due to abuse, rotors, they found a shortage underhood, and they replaced the underhood electrical center, wheel bearing assembly, tie rod ends, wheel speed sensor....after all of these problems that i have had with this car, i have had to come up with money to repair this car, and they finally agreed to help me into another car, but my car is valued at $14,995 and they only want to give me $9,000 for my car when they know that i owe $14,300, these problems with this car has caused me much hardship and i'm trying to save my credit, this is an attempt to get some help, if you could please lead me in the correct direction will greatly appreciate it. | |||

| Dt: the contact states vehicle caught on fire. the vehicle had been sitting for 30 minutes before the fire. the fire department was called to extinguish the fire. the fire marshal inspected the vehicle and concluded the fire was electrical. it started in the dashboard and spread to the engine. there were no prior problems reported on the vehicle. no one sustained any injury due to the fire. the fire department told the contact the police department would not respond since the fire was on her property. the vehicle was a complete loss.*ak | |||

| Wiring harness that provides electricity to both the driver side and passenger side airbags within the dashboard had failed as a result of a high resistance connection failure. the problem was uncovered by the dealer after the airbag warning light came on. the dealer's mechanic stated this disabled both airbags and that he had personally replaced at least 20 of these harnesses for same problem. another personal contact at another pontiac dealer stated that dozens of these harnesses have been replaced in their shop. this is an expensive repair of $400.00 to remedy the problem if not under warranty timeframe. part has since been re-designed to correct high resistance connection problem.*ak | |||

| The car was taken in for a defective alternater and was replaced. the service tech noticed the air bag light on and asked if i had seen it on. i said yes it had been on before and gone off from time to time. he then said it was a problem in the wiring harness that they had repaired on other grand prixs and it would cost around $200.00 to fix it. he also said with the airbag light on the system would not deploy in the event of a accident. but my question was why should i pay for fixing the problem that they designed. there is a sbn # 98839010 on record seq 228, dated 9806 nhtsa sb602269 for this same problem. what recourse do i have? thank you | |||
