Porsche is initiating a customer notification action to address a condition related to a faulty or loose connector in the side airbag system.porsche's testing has shown that the faulty connector will not prevent side airbag deployment.the faulty connector will cause the circuit resistance to exceed the threshold for illumination of the air bag warning light.porsche has reported a large number of warranty claims for illumination of the air bag warning light and many vehicles have been serviced to correct this condition as described in the cayenne technical information bulletin: group 6, #11/04 airbag warning light activated.porsche will perform this service to all remaining uncorrected vehicles under a new product improvement campaign starting at the end of april 2007.all owners of a subject vehicle built through november 2004 will be notified by porsche to bring the vehicle to a dealer to receive the free modification.vehicles built after november 2004 do not contain the subject connector.in addition, porsche reports that a small number of vehicles built in november and december 2003, may contain an incorrectly manufactured side airbag module.this may also produceillumination of the airbag warning light that would become evident soon after the vehicle is put into service.warranty data indicates that these modules have been corrected and no longer present a risk.porsche has not received any report of non-deployment of the side airbag.the action taken by porsche is sufficient to resolve the issue raised by this investigation.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.

Circle imports long beach, ca a porsche dealer installed a new steering wheel on our 04 porsche cayenne. in one week time on oct. 15, 2005 the air bag in the center of the wheel started coming loose and was falling off the wheel. the repair to this problem occurred in just a few days however, when i questioned why there were no sensors giving me a warning, i was told that no sensors exist. when i asked the dealer to contact porsche corporate to present this problem, i was told there was nothing they could do. shortly after that i emailed to porsche corporate however, no one bother to reply. during that time i called their porsche survey center because of a post card i received regarding the quality of service, again no one replied to me. i have color photos of the defective air bag/steering wheel and service papers showing that service took place on date mentioned above. i would be glad to share the pictures with you and i hope someone can get porsche to retrofit a sensor to this problem. i am certain that if we had been involved in an accident the air bag would not have worked properly. once you see the pictures i think you'll agree with my findings. if need to i can also provide 2 witnesses that day that saw first hand the defective airbag. beyond this the dealer had put on 40 miles to my car during service without authorization. this portion i will take up with the better business bureau unless this falls in your jurisdiction as well as the above safety issue? best regards, chuck yang cell 714-928-2788. *nm
