| Defect Summary | Vehicle description: fifth wheel and travel trailers equipped with dexter axles that were manufactured with a bearing option known as nev-r-lube. the optional hub utilizes a sealed cartridge bearing which is held in place with a retaining ring that prevents the hub from shifting on the bearing. some of these axle assemblies were produced without the retaining ring. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | The absence of the retaining ring can allow the hub to shift inward and may result in brake interference or tire contact to the vehicle structure. braking problems can result in a loss of control of the vehicle. tire contact to the vehicle structure can result in overheating and potentially lead to a fire or cause the tire to blowout. | |||||||||||||||

| I have had 4 goodyear marathon s trailer tires fail due to tread separation in the last 3 years. tread separation has occurred while traveling at 60-65 mph on the interstate. two of the tires separated within a 2 month time period. i maintain the air pressure at 65 psi cold as imprinted on the tire. my trailer is a 30 ft. sunnybrook and is with in the gvrw as well as each tire weight rating. i have contacted goodyear and currently am awaiting a claim. goodyear has stated that there is no defect. several other members of our camping club have had the same problem with the marathon s tires. *nm | |||
