| Finally did floor mat recall work done on my 2006 tacoma. new floor mat is thin, flimsy, nothing like original thick all weather floor mat. i also want to add, there was nothing wrong with the original design aw floor mat for tacoma vehicles, there was absolutely no interference with the accelerator pedal, and that the only reason i changed the mats was due to the mat ribs starting to break on the driver's side. in addition, the campaign called for the floor carpet to be vacuum cleaned and shampooed, and none of this was done. the dealer simply swapped-out the floor mats and charged-out $185 to recall work, i don't even think they did any pedal adjustment. here's the real problem: the new, thin, flimsy floor mat uses the old floor mat retainer hooks that were intended for the thick all weather floor mats. these floor mat hooks hurt my feet when driving barefoot, but more importantly, they can, they will, and they have caught and hooked-up the heel of my shoes on occasion. i am a very safe driver, do not tailgate vehicles, and i tell you now, these hooks have caused me to get into embarrassing situations and very near accidents due to my shoe getting caught in the hooks and not being able to brake properly and on time. if i modify the hooks or cut them, there is a good chance that the new mat will slide-up under the pedals, preventing use of the brakes and not being able to stop the vehicle. i will not do this, i will not assume this responsibility. at this present situation, at this present design, the liability rests with the manufacturer and the authorization for this recall design modification. as i mentioned earlier, there was no problem with the original design for this specific year/make/model; however, the recall modification did create a problem where none existed, and made the situation worse than original. | |||

| As i was rolling down hill and applying the brakes, the truck suddenly accelerated. as i pressed the brakes harder the anti-lock brakes activated and the truck continued to move forward for a short distance, almost into on coming traffic, while the engine could be heard loud as if the gas peddle was being pushed although the brakes were being applied only. scary! uncontrollable forward movement and acceleration while braking. *tr | |||

| December 2006 truck parked with emergency brake off and would not move below freezing temperature. all four wheels locked up. towed to dealer, after numerous attempts to fix he stated the wheel bearing were leaking grease and freezing up so truck would not move. truck operates good all year till it gets below freezing and wheels lock up. dealer does not know the problem, but only happens when parked and below freezing. december 10 2012 rear wheels lock up while driving in below freezing causing truck to slide and miss two on coming cars, truck ends up in ditch. would sell vehicle but afraid anyone driving it in cold weather would be stranded or in a fatal wreck. are other trucks having same issue as i hunt and go back 30 miles into the woods and if freezes i would be stranded. *tr | |||

| On november 09, 2009, about 19:21 p.m. i was driving my vehicle toyota tacoma 2006. i was unable to stop at the red signal due to brake failure and my car was going down the grade totaly out of control without brakes and unable to stiring the wheel and after this i struck another vehicle. the accident happened in paterson, passaic county, new jersey. the police report # 09-141205. the next day after the accident toyota sent me a recall letter about floor mat interference with accelerator pedal. *tr | |||

| I was creeping--2 or 3 mph--up to an intersection in my 06 tacoma. when i tried to stop, i could feel the anti lock brakes shifting around, but the truck would not stop. it drove itself into the path of a mack dump truck, totaling my truck & sending me to the chiropractor twice so far. if my truck had managed to get another 2 or 3 feet into the intersection, the dump truck would have hit my driver's side door instead of the front tire. odds are, i would not have survived that crash. my insurance is finding me at fault, toyota offered to run diagnostics on the truck after it was fixed. my truck was hit so hard, it busted the engine block, so it won't be fixed, it's considered totaled. so i'm ?!@#$% unless you folks can get something done!*tr | |||

| Braking took much longer to stop. ceramic pads were installed. brake pedal now goes to the floor when stoped. master cylinder was replaced by toyota on 2/25/2010. the brake pedal still went to the floor when stopped. toyota checked it on 4/05/2010 and said all their newer trucks loose vacuum and the pedal goes to the floor. called toyota headquarters and they said this isn't normal (4/07/2010). toyota inspected brakes again on 4/12/2010 and said it's normal for the brake pedal to go to the floor at a stop. i have a 2006 toyota tacoma w/ 40k miles. toyota shpwed me a 2007 tacoma that did the same thing. my pedal never went to the floor before the master cylinder went. many mechanics tell me it's not safe for the pedal to go to the floor. if you feel this is safe ok. if this is not safe please investigate. | |||

| Hello i have a 2006 toyota tacoma and i have taken it to the toyota dealership twice for loud clacking sounds coming from the brakes every time i use the brakes. the dealership tells me that this sound is normal but i know better as i have never had a vehicle that sounded like this before and i also am some what of a mechanic. the clacking sound is coming from the brake caliper hitting the mounting bolts and as any one with a brain knows that metal hitting metal over and over will either break the bolts or eventually wear through the bolts. i purchased this vehicle used as a toyota certified vehicle with 48,000 miles on it. the brake pads are not even close to being worn out and this issue is not with wear of brake pads but it is an issue with the mounting of the break calipers them self. toyota may not have a problem at this moment with this but you better believe that the problem is right around the corner and some one needs to get them on it now before this starts causing wrecks. *tr | |||

| I have a 2006 toyota tacoma with 43,800 miles on it. i have taken the tacoma in to valley high toyota in victorville numerous times for a terrible braking problem that they are now recognizing on the prius. the truck does not stop when driving over any uneven surface. when we went to valley high toyota we were told that it is abs brakes trying not to lock up. in fact, the brakes don't work at all in this situation which could lead to a very serious accident. furthermore, there seems to be a problem with the motor mounts as well. in 2007 we took the truck in for its first motor mount problem, it seems that both motor mounts were stretched beyond repair and had to be replaced. we thought the problem was over, but in nov. 2009 the driver side motor mount snapped completely through. the truck has never been driven roughly and this should not have happened. i researched this problem and found that there were new designs put into place on the 2007 tacoma models. the mechanic working on the truck said he could tell the truck had not been driven hard and stated that he had seen this happen before. we have also noticed that since the first motor mount problem the transmission has been shifting extremely rough. we've asked valley high toyota about the transmission several times and they have said there's nothing wrong with it. our warranty is almost up and i'm worried we could have a transmission failure within the next several months. my daughter drives this truck, and i no longer feel it | |||

| Brakes squeal when backing out of the driveway every morning. this happens only when the truck is used the first time every day. after it has been driven it is fine the rest of the day. the 2006 tacoma has had this problem since day 1 and currently has 52,000 miles use. very frustrating. *tr | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle spontaneously accelerated to 100 mph without voluntary application of the accelerator pedal. when the failure occurred, the rpms abnormally increased and the braking system became inoperative. the contact had to depress the parking brake in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a dealer because the technician could not duplicate the failure or locate any diagnostic error codes. the failure and current mileages were 65,000. 4/01/09 *nj updated 04/06/09.*jb | |||

| 2006 toyota tacoma double cab has had acceleration when brakes were being applied, and episodes where the brake pedal can be pushed completely to the floor with no brake action what so ever. have taken vehicle into toyota dealer on 5 occasions with the complaint, but each time have been told that they couldn't find anything wrong (i think their investigation involved driving it around and seeing if the brakes worked--and they did at those times). the problem is episodic, and so is difficult to recreate. i believe that there has been a defect in the braking/cruise control/acceleration system since shortly after i purchased it. today i was driving at a low speed and tried to stop at a red light. i pushed the brake pedal, it went to the floor and the truck did not stop, causing me to crash into another vehicle. i see that there are multiple similar complaints about this vehicle. when is somebody going to take this seriously? i think an independent panel should conduct an inquiry because i think toyota knows something is wrong, but they don't want to acknowledge it. *tr | |||

| S10 appropriate handling re toyota throttle control problem fm owner of a 2006 toyota tacoma truck. *kb the consumer stated twice within the past year, he experienced sudden acceleration. in both instances, his foot was on the brake and he was moving less that 5 mph. both times, the vehicle surged forward as the abs activated, and the front of the vehicle impacted the garage wall. the consumer believed the problem involved the electronic control system that activated and operated the abs and throttle. he noticed that the abs tends to activate too often and too early, even in dry conditions. *jb | |||

| Applied brake pedal as i approached an intersection with a red light and could not stop, causing my vehicle to rear end a stopped vehicle. my vehicle also picked up acceleration when i applied the brake a second time. i had to shut the vehicle off in order to stop it from climbing up the rear of the vehicle ahead of me. police officer at the scene verified this observation afterward indicating a mechanical problem and noted same on the police report. my brand new vehicle was purchased less than two weeks before this accident, towed back to the dealership after the accident and remains there awaiting an inspection by the manufacturer. *jb | |||

| In january 2007 i purchased a new 2006 toyota tacoma. since this time i have noticed on multiple occasions that when i am sitting at a stop, the truck lunges forward. i have never experienced this sensation with other vehicles i have owned or driven, but thought that maybe i was taking my foot off the brake pedal enough to allow the truck to move forward. my wife, who rarely drives the truck; however, has experienced the same issue. because it has happened enough, i know enough not to get too close to a car in front of me when i am sitting at a light or stop sign. that being said, i just read an article in a newspaper that stated that there are other 2006 tacoma drivers that have experienced similar situations, some of which may have led to crashes. for that reason, i have decided to report my situation as well. *tr | |||
