| Finally did floor mat recall work done on my 2006 tacoma. new floor mat is thin, flimsy, nothing like original thick all weather floor mat. i also want to add, there was nothing wrong with the original design aw floor mat for tacoma vehicles, there was absolutely no interference with the accelerator pedal, and that the only reason i changed the mats was due to the mat ribs starting to break on the driver's side. in addition, the campaign called for the floor carpet to be vacuum cleaned and shampooed, and none of this was done. the dealer simply swapped-out the floor mats and charged-out $185 to recall work, i don't even think they did any pedal adjustment. here's the real problem: the new, thin, flimsy floor mat uses the old floor mat retainer hooks that were intended for the thick all weather floor mats. these floor mat hooks hurt my feet when driving barefoot, but more importantly, they can, they will, and they have caught and hooked-up the heel of my shoes on occasion. i am a very safe driver, do not tailgate vehicles, and i tell you now, these hooks have caused me to get into embarrassing situations and very near accidents due to my shoe getting caught in the hooks and not being able to brake properly and on time. if i modify the hooks or cut them, there is a good chance that the new mat will slide-up under the pedals, preventing use of the brakes and not being able to stop the vehicle. i will not do this, i will not assume this responsibility. at this present situation, at this present design, the liability rests with the manufacturer and the authorization for this recall design modification. as i mentioned earlier, there was no problem with the original design for this specific year/make/model; however, the recall modification did create a problem where none existed, and made the situation worse than original. | |||

| The frame on my 2006 double cab tacoma is severely rusted. huge metal flakes with quarter size thickness is flaking off the main frame & all cross members. there is a hole that has developed under the truck bed in the frame. i took the truck to a toyota dealer and they looked at the frame and said it was very rusty but right now there was not anything they could do to help because toyota had not issued any official recall or tsb for frame repair for 2006 models. i called the toyota customer line. the lady took all my information and concern, but informed me that at this time i was on my own to have any frame work repaired. i feel the toyota corporation should stand behind the 2005+ years tacoma frame rust issues as they have with the 2001-04 model. it is obvious that the severe frame rust issue did not end with the 2004 model tacoma. | |||

| The frame of my 2006 tacoma is rusting severely, especially the welds that hold the frame together. i took my truck to the toyota dealership and they told me there is nothing wrong with 'surface rust' and it's 'normal', even though it is obvious that the problem is a galvanic reaction and will eventually cause structural failure. the two previous generation tacoma's had the same problems. there are hundreds of people that i have found across north america with the same problem. toyota obviously understands what the problem is but refuses to acknowledge it. i have taken action to protect the frame but toyota refuses to assume any responsibility for an obvious defective manufacturing process. | |||

| I took my 2006 tacoma in for my yearly pennsylvania inspection only to find out that two seperate places wont pass it because the frame is rusted out. toyota knows about the problem and has covered previous years.i called toyota only to be told it was my problem and they wont fix it since its not in the covered years. all they gave me was a reference # (1212040621) and the address for their legal dept so i could refer a lawyer to there. why would i want to get a lawyer when they know about the problem in previous years? its ther defective product, not my fault. so im left with a $30,000 truck sitting in my driveway that i cant use! | |||

| 2006 toyota tacoma has outrageous rust to frame. i have read the previous complaints about this subject by other people and it's more of pretty much same problem. i just can't believe that there isn't an investigation into this by the government. this kind of rust is not normal by any standard. i have seen many makes and models of pick up trucks five years older than this one with little or no rust to their frames. i'm sure that there is a test to determine what quality steel they used on tacoma frame. is it china recycled steel? (nothing else would rust so quick and so bad.) it's hard for me to imagine that automaker of this size would put 2 tons of weight on frames so defective, to save few dollars. frame is the most important component of the vehicle ,everything rides on it including persons life. for toyota to say that you need holes in the frame before they may or may not do something about it is greedy. they should have used the right kind of material in the first place. for over $30,000 for their pick up truck most people would expect the frame to be made out of steel not mud; because that's what it looks like. after all $30,000 is no pocket change for most people. i am sure they would not be saying that if it was their family member driving their tacoma on the highway at 65 mph. i could go on about this, but what's the point? the government should protect it's citizens from cheaters like toyota, not let them get away because they have billions. average citizen does not stand a chance against corporation of that size. to the person or persons at toyota i can only hope that you have a peaceful death when the time comes, and you should be able to take all the profits with you. you must have worked really hard on this scam. you know what materials you use for your product. if this offends anyone i apologize in advance, this is how i feel about this ordeal. | |||

| Spare tire cable snapped on the morning of 7/12/12.snapping of the cable resulted in the rear of the vehicle becoming airborne and shifting to the side while in mid air. luckily time was on my side. i was working nights and had this incident unfolded while working my normal day shift, i am positive there would have been contact between my vehicle with another vehicle, or another vehicle with tire and rim on route 287 north in new jersey as the roads are packed like sardines in a can yet moving at a brisk pace. i did not know what is was at first but immediately pulled off into the shoulder. found the wheel and noticed that the unused spare tire is now in need of replacement at a cost of $180 | |||

| This complaint is presently filed under suspension, but should be filed under structure: frame and members. the following is what is printed under the suspension file: despite washing, scraping/wire brushing, spot priming and painting the truck frame once per year, the frame from just in front of the axle, all the way forward, both sides, is severely corroded. the front cross piece is totally disintegrated. the incident is that the corrosion is so bad that the front stabilizer bar mount, driver's side, has torn away from the frame. further inspection shows that the frame in the engine compartment area needs total replacement/extensive repair. this appears to be the same frame corrosion problem supposedly addressed by toyota in the 1990 to 2004 vehicles. but toyota is not issuing recalls or customer programs for 2005 tacoma's and newer. since the box-sectioned frame rusts from the inside out, the severity of the problem is not apparent until it is too late - when a catastrophic frame failure can happen - as with the failure of my stabilizer bar. toyota needs to address this frame issue immediately. can you imagine if an axle mount or engine mount failed on the highway? this vehicle is only 6 years old, this is insane! | |||

| I have an 06 tacoma pre-runner, which i have noticed to have some excessive rust on the frame. after having some work done on my truck, my mechanic asked if there has been a recall on this truck for the frame rusting, because it should not be this bad. after researching, i have found that they had recalled earilier models for the same problem. so what about the newer models? now i am concerned about the saftey of the frame. | |||

| Around the end of april my tacoma started making a horrible noise whenever i backed up. after some searching around i found my fan was rubbing on its cover. next i looked into why on some forums, so after some research i discovered its do too a broken motor mount. i got under my truck and true to behold my motor mount had collapsed into the frame. this is a well known issue with 05-06 tacoma's yet toyota wont do anything. they say im 100,000 miles out of warranty. to make it worse toyota is well aware of the matter because all 07 and newer tacoma's have extra support plate welded on the frame to prevent collapse. | |||

| The frame and most of the mechanical components attached to the frame on my 2006 toyota tacoma pick up are rusting very rapidly, it has approx. 45,000 miles on it. at the rate it is rusting i feel it is going to be a safety issue down the road with the frame cracking or a mechanical problem. | |||

| At around 48,000 miles, airbag light came on. took it to toyota dealer and was diagnosed at broken spiral cable. total cost to fix was 460 dollars with labor. seems to be a common problem with 06 tacoma. | |||

| I have a 2006 toyota tacoma and the sun visor will not stay up. when the problem started it would be at a 30 degree angle from the roof and when i go over a bump it drops completely down blocking my view. it just started to not stay up at all yesterday and completely swings back and forth. i had to remove it this morning before going to work and now am researching a replacement unit. | |||

| 2006 tacoma has been in dealership on 3 different occasions for out of control sudden accelaration problems. the first event was in 2009, i was taking a friend home at approx. 11 pm when vehicle suddenly accelarated itself to maximum speed and we were fortunately able to avoid collision and vehicle rollover and bring vehicle to a stop. the second even happend on labor day weekend 2010. vehicle was backing a trailer onto property with guidence of friend and sudden accelaration occured. my friend had to jump out of harms way. the truck suddenly accelarated two more times on this day backing the truck back into the driveway. toyota dealership towed the vehicle away. the vehicle had been modified on two recalls for sudden accelaration before the accidents on labor day weekend. the vehicle was kept by toyota for 6 weeks and they said they could not duplicate the problem and said nothing was wrong with it. i have to pay for this vehicle, i drive it and i am scared to death to drive it because i don't know when it's going to happen again and possibly hurt or even kill myself or somebody else. this vehicle should not be on the road. i avoid and continue to avoid driving with any passengers including my wife and son. i have written testimonies from both the passenger and the person i almost runned over. | |||

| On the 26th of march 2010 about 3:00 pm, i was driving my 2006 toyota tacoma and got onto interstate 80 going west and began to merge into traffic. as i accelerated to get in front of a white semi-tractor trailer, i realized i was accelerating faster than i was pushing down on the gas pedal. my truck accelerated as if it wanted to go faster than i did, and so i let my foot off the gas pedal. but, my toyota tacoma still increased in speed, and the gas pedal seemed soft as if the truck was in cruise control. realizing that my speed was 80 and rising rapidly, i pushed down on the brake pedal. the car barely slowed down and sped right back up continuing to accelerate as soon as i removed my foot from the brake. so, i pressed down the brake pedal with all my force, but the truck did not slow down sufficiently to safely pull over. so, then, i put one foot on the brake and used the other to push down the emergency brake. the truck decelerated enough to allow me to pull over into the far right lane. the car continued to roll despite application of both brakes, and so i threw the vehicle into park. this shut off the engine. i had my truck towed to the dealership and nothing has been resolved as of today. | |||

| My son took his new 3 month old 2006 toyota tacoma truck back to the dealer on 12-12-05 for high idling and when accelerating customer having a hard time stopping it according to the invoice.this vehicle went out of control two times. the first time it happened on a surface street speeding up from 40 mph to 80 mph and the second time he was on the highway. it sped up from 70 mph to 110. both times my son shifted into neutral - instinctive reaction - and the truck did slow down. had the traffic been bad, he and others, would have been killed for sure. both times, he took his foot off of the accelerator and he could see it moving down towards the floor all by itself. it still has an idling problem. he was told that there was nothing wrong; by the dealer at the time. nothing has been done to correct the problems with the high idling and accelerating problem. this model is not on the recall list. my son is deaf and he can be reached by email. *cn *tr | |||
