Porsche is initiating a customer notification action to address a condition related to a faulty or loose connector in the side airbag system.porsche's testing has shown that the faulty connector will not prevent side airbag deployment.the faulty connector will cause the circuit resistance to exceed the threshold for illumination of the air bag warning light.porsche has reported a large number of warranty claims for illumination of the air bag warning light and many vehicles have been serviced to correct this condition as described in the cayenne technical information bulletin: group 6, #11/04 airbag warning light activated.porsche will perform this service to all remaining uncorrected vehicles under a new product improvement campaign starting at the end of april 2007.all owners of a subject vehicle built through november 2004 will be notified by porsche to bring the vehicle to a dealer to receive the free modification.vehicles built after november 2004 do not contain the subject connector.in addition, porsche reports that a small number of vehicles built in november and december 2003, may contain an incorrectly manufactured side airbag module.this may also produceillumination of the airbag warning light that would become evident soon after the vehicle is put into service.warranty data indicates that these modules have been corrected and no longer present a risk.porsche has not received any report of non-deployment of the side airbag.the action taken by porsche is sufficient to resolve the issue raised by this investigation.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 porsche cayenne. while having the vehicle serviced by an authorized dealer for routine maintenance, the contact was told that the ignition switch was not generating the correct amount of voltages. due to the ignition failure, the vehicle was not using the proper amount of fuel. the contact was also told this was a known failure. the vehicle was repaired. the contact also stated the entire digital dashboard display system failed and no longer displayed any readings. the vehicle was also experiencing a final failure in which a valve body in the transmission failed, causing the vehicle intermittently surge forward. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told all the failures were known problems yet the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 104,000 and the current mileage was 104,250. the vin was unavailable.

Vehicle runs inefficiently when cold and smoke has been noted from the exhaust pipe when vehicle is driven. it will turn over, but not catch. dealership was told by porsche to use a lower octane fuel (87) to remedy the problem. this contradicts the information in the owner's manual which states only premium unleaded fuel 91 or higher should be used. if the vehicle is taken into a lower altitude area, the fuel should revert to premium. this is a brand new car and it does not start when the engine is turned over, leading me to believe there is a manufacturing defect in the design of the engine. my husband owns a 2004 cayenne s, which has a 4.5 v-8 instead of the 3.2 liter v-6 and it starts immediately, even when cold. *nm

Vehicle suddenly loses power (throttle control as the service rep puts it), usually while traveling at highway speeds. this causes sudden deceleration, creating issues for surrounding traffic. in each case if i floor the accelerator i can maintain approximately 25 mph to get to a side street, where i arrange for a tow truck. this vehicle has been in the shop three times for a total of a month, during it's first 6 months (14,000 miles) for this condition. each time the porsche dealer believes it has been fixed. intermittent so hard to diagnose. *nm
