| Odi has received 16 complaints where the owners allege that the standard gm factory supplied ac delco battery case failed, resulting in leakage of the sulfuric acid.of the 16 complaint vehicles, five suburban and three tahoes owners complainted about a loss of brake fluid resulting from deterioration of the right front brake line.the remaining eight complaints pertained to sulfuric acid leakage from the battery case.at least one complaintant stated that the replacement battery also failed. several of the complainants note that the leaking acid had come in contact with a wire harness at the frame in the vicinity of the steel bake line.a faield inspection by odi indicates that the described harness is the abs connection to the right front wheelspeed sensor.a preliminary evaluation is being opened for the following reasons: - to gather appropriate information on this matter in order to accurately assess the technical causes and resulting impacts on the vehicle's safety system(s); - to identify any defect trends and causality or correlation with other factors; and - to address any resulting public safety concerns and consequences. | ||||||

| Orginal delco battery leaked acid all over fender well and floor of garage. upon investigating , found that positive post was loose from battery and leaking. replace with another delco, suppose to be a better model and corrected the problem they were having. again in about 18 months, the same thing again. replaced again with same problem, this time i bought a sears die hard, and hopefully solved the problem. heard the same storey from at least 10 friends and business associates. should have realized they had a problem. i think it is in the bolt (terminal) disign. shorter bolt (terminal) on negative side, and either the longer bolt on the positve termanal was piercing the inner wall of the battery, or it wasn't going in far enough and causing an electrical bad connection, causing a heat build up. i think you will find in most cases this was the same problem, and bolt was coroded to nearly nothing in the center of positive bolt. i see where on the newer g.m . trucks this has been changed and i sure hope i don't have that problem. thanks for listening. *ak | |||

| ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - BATTERY - CABLES | |||

| In august 1997 original manufacture battery leaked acid thus corroding the air bag sensor, positive & negative cables & corroding other metal parts to frame of the yukon. there is now visible rust due to the acid leak. gm dealer martin gmc replaced the battery under warranty. for the second time on 11/24/99 with the 1yr battery gm replaced leakage occured again. this time my anti-lock brake sensor light came on. needless to say, i had to pay out of pocket $543.94 for replacement of sensor, new front brakes, & new rotors for a vehicle with only 54,194 miles. also, gm refused to replace the 1year old battery that was leaking because the car was no longer under manufacture warranty even though the battery had leaked previously under warranty. they wanted me to purchase a batter for $80.00. i refuses & purchased a battery at walmart. this acid problem has caused irreversible damage underneath the hood & it is a recurrent problem. if this is a common problem is there any recourse in getting my money refunded? | |||
