Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with front coil springs originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new york, new jersey, new hampshire, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia, and wisconsin, and in the district of columbia. the front coil springs were produced with poor paint quality which, after continued exposure to corrosive salt, can result in breakage of the spring.
Consequence SummaryDepending on the location of the fracture, a broken spring could move past the spring seat and contact a front tire. some tires have deflated due to contact with a broken spring.
Corrective SummaryDealers will notifiy customers to bring their vehicle to an authorize dealership to have a spring guard installed on both front struts to prevent tire puncture and replace any broken springs free of charge. owner notification began september 18, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact subaru at 1-800-782-2783.

 Defective frame on 1998 subaru legacy. *nj the consumer stated the brakes and tie rods were replaced. and a alignment was done as well. while driving, the vehicle began to make a rumbling sound, as well a stronger pull to the right when braking. the consumer was able to pull over and upon inspecting the vehicle, he noticed the front left cross-member was severed in the center. *jb
 While driving at approximately 75 mph driver swerved to the left to avoid hitting a vehicle when dual airbags deployed suddenly without any impact done to vehicle. due to deployment of airbags ,driver lost control of vehicle, resulting in an accident. *ak

 When driving at 45 mph vehicle veered to the right and lifted up, and all power went to the front side. consumer applied abs brakes, and vehicle wouldn't stop, causing vehicle to skid and run into a house. upon impact, driver's side and passenger's side air bags didn't deploy. *ak

 Defect within vehicle is causing the front of vehicle to shake, including steering wheel when vehicle is being driven at least 58-68 mph. also pulls to right. dealer also changed transmission bracket and angle of driveshaft, and put in new wheels and rims. vehicle is still shaking. *ak

 Upon driving on all terrains vehicle pulls to the right. subaru claimed that pulling to the right is due to a design feature, and they refused to perform additional service on vehicle. *ak
