| Defect Summary | The left and right side curtain air bags in certain vehicles involved in this campaign may not fully deploy rapidly enough when activated in a side impact collision. during a side impact test conducted by the insurance institute for highway safety (iihs), the test results indicated that there was a difference between the iihs test results and the result of side impact tests conducted by fhi. | |||||||||||||||

| Dt*: the contact stated while driving the vehicle was hit on the front passenger side, near the bumper and wheel. the other vehicle impacted the vehicle at 40 mph. the airbags did not deploy and the engine did not shut off. the manufacturer determined due to the angle of impact the airbags should not deploy. the contact was wearing a seatbelt, but sustained whiplash. there was a police report taken at the scene. the vehicle was towed to the dealership. | |||

| 2005 subaru legacy gt passenger seat belt sensor is not functioning correctly. the seat belt warning light and chime comes on after driving about 7 miles with no one in the seat or anything sitting on the seat. it seams to be worse in the winter than in the summer. the reno dealer has 'calibrated' it at least twice and several times the service advisor said try putting the back of the seat more vertical and that should fix the problem (it did not). i e-mailed subaru support and was told that the problem does appear to be a normal operation of the vehicle. i was given the option to perform a procedure to permanently disable this warning chime, which i do not want to do. *jb | |||
