Very bad vibration in steering wheel and front end in speeds in excess of 40mph. many other subaru legacy owners are also experiencing this. the wheel shakes and requires numerous and frequent adjustments as it vibrates constantly. this has been ongoing for almost 2 years with no know fix from subaru.

2010 subaru legacy - has a vibration in steering wheel and in seat - gone back dealership 2 times already, once for a road force balance didn't work, 2nd time new tires, new steering dampener, suspension shim, wheel alignment and still have a vibration. now their seems to a little play in steering at high speeds on turns since steering dampener was replaced.. there is a tsb about this issue fix from subaru doesn't seem to work.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 subaru legacy. while driving at approximately 60 mph the steering wheel began to violently vibrate and turn to the left and right. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they decreased the psi on the tires. the failure continued to recur while driving above 60 mph. the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where various repairs were performed. the failure continued to recur. she also stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph she applied pressure to the brake pedal and heard two clicking noises. the vehicle experienced an increased stopping distance and when she released the pressure from the brake pedal she again heard two clicking noises. the vehicle was again taken to the authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. it was not repaired. the failures continue to recur. the failure mileage was 824 and the current mileage was 1,894. sm.

Car sways right to left at highway speeds of 55mph or more. vibration in steering column present at any speed greater than 45mph but worse in 5th and 6th gears of mt. steering feels unreliable. car will deviate from intended path. alignment has been checked, dealer has road force balanced tires and replaced a dampening spring in steering column. no change in either sway or vibration.

The steering sway wobble shimmy at highway speeds is still present. with vdc off it is substantially less sway feeling and steering correction. if you drive straight, you will have to continually correct the steering to overcome to above. about 800 miles i now get a vibration you can feel in the steering wheel. it feels unsafe. other dangerous cvt occurances are: - in 'd' the car surges occasionally when stopped, like an unintended acceleration surge. scary, feels like the car is going to take off and feels unsafe. - while driving in cvt manual mode, lets say 2nd gear into a highway exit curve and you let off of the gas pedal, car continues at same speed and rpm!!!!! does not reduce rpm or speed until you hit the brake. scary if you drive on a straight road and let off of the gas pedal car will reduce rpm and speed. -sometimes if your stopped and go to turn the wheel before you release the brake, engine will raise rpm quite a bit causing surge in power. scary

We purchased the car new, december, 2009. dealer is over an hour drive from home in another state. car is pampered and kept in garage when not being used. just in a couple months developed a pronounced thump in the rear under the car. intermittent, and there is a feel of the car vibrating or shimmying, if very slightly at the same time. we back out of driveway into street turning wheel to left, straighten, drive forward 80 feet to the stop sign. accelerate and turn to the right, there is a thump from under the rear of the car. next stop to the right it doesn't do it. only at the next turn to the left does it make the same thump. we took everything possible that might roll, out of the car, and it still does it. cannot seem to duplicate at the dealer. the first service we expressed concern, they looked at it and said they tightened a bushing. they have had the car 4 times since for other issues of rattles and noises, a couple recalls for defective hose and wiring and recently blue-tooth failure which we are still going around with them. they replaced sound deadening in the doors because it harmoniously vibrated at the pitch of scraping finger nails on the chalkboard, and give me the deer in the headlight look when i mention the first service and the term, bushing. when i take coworkers out to lunch, they say, what was that noise (thump), so i know i'm not imagining it. my concern is that something in the suspension is shifting back and forth, side to side, and something is going to fail, causing loss of control or death. makes me afraid to drive car. 14 months of ownership and we only have 8,650 miles on the car, so it's not like we abuse it.
