Defect SummarySubaru is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 legacy and outback vehicles equipped with an automatic or cvt transmission and an audiovox remote engine starter (res) accessory, certain model year 2012-2013 impreza vehicles equipped with a cvt transmission and an audiovox remote engine starter (res) accessory, and certain model year 2013 xv crosstrek vehicles equipped with a cvt transmission and an audiovox remote engine starter (res) accessory. additionally included are certain model year 2013 legacy and outback vehicles that may have received replacement res fobs. if the res fob is dropped, the fob may malfunction and randomly transmit an engine start request without pressing the button.
Consequence SummaryThe engine may inadvertently start and run for up to fifteen minutes. the engine may continue to start and stop until the fob battery is depleted, or until the vehicle runs out of fuel. if the vehicle is parked in an enclosed area, there is a risk of carbon monoxide build-up which may cause headaches, dizziness or, in extreme cases, unconsciousness and/or asphyxiation.
Corrective SummarySubaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the res key fobs, free of charge. the recall is expected to begin by the end of april 2013. owners may contact subaru at 1-800-782-2783 for more information.
NotesOriginal equipment keyless entry fobs integrated on the vehicle key are not affected.subaru's recall campaign number is wqf-42.owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

 6 speed manual transmission. vehicle stalls, and rough idles intermittently while at stop light or other traffic control. vehicle also stalled while on highway twice disabling power steering, and power braking. brought back to dealer and they were unable to replicate issue. issue occured again, brought back to dealer 2nd time same results. 3rd time issue was replicated while i was in vehicle with tech. technician stated that they will address it. left over weekend. tuesday dealer notified me that the vehicle was experiencing a power draw after the window or electronic brake were used, and the factory advised that the computer would need to be re-flashed but currently, there is no re-flash program developed, and there is no time line as to when it would be. contacted subaru america cust. serv. district manager test drove and was unable to replicate. so as far as the dealer and subaru are concerned, there is no issue. vehicle still stalls intermittently. filed complaint with ct dvm lemon law, and now with nhtsa.

 Radio controls on left side of steering wheel stop functioning intermittently. has happened on 2 occasions in the 2 1/2 months i have owned the vehicle. the symptoms are similar to those reported with the steering column electrical roll connection recall (subaru recall wvr-28), however, that recall was for 2010 my vehicles and i have a 2011 my vehicle.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2011 subaru legacy. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph in snowy conditions she noticed the check engine light, the abs lights all had illuminated on the instrumental panel. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact the she needed to replace battery, the starter, the cable and the ecm. the vehicle was repaired for all of the listed components. the failure mileage was approximately 100. the vin was unavailable. tb
